Earlier this year, I went back in time to few years back when I was doing so well in Nigeria. The noises from friends and all nurtured the decision to move abroad inside of me. I became so restless till I finally leave. The first day in Canada was the day I knew this place isn't where I can be forever. Most of us would have come back before the time we had in mind except for the fact that I don't still have enough. If I want to travel to naija for vacation now, I will need up to $4k. If I take that away from my savings, I don't know how I can recover.

No one tells about the downside of this place. I feel lonely, depressed and empty most times. Because no one to talk to, just everyone in my workplace goin about their business. If I make attempt to talk to them, they just waive it with a smile. It's been 3years here and the people I still talk to on video call are friends from Nigeria. It's been 3years and my savings is still Short of $20k despite how much my friends in Nigeria do tell me how easy it is for me to make money abroad but I never tell them my situation. I can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good. I know a lot will come at me with the usuall "come back to Nigeria na", please this is not an attempt to denigrate your abroad heaven, just for me to rant out and be fine
I understand ur frustration, is not easy. Many people might not understand until dey find themselves here. Some countries in America and Europe are so quiet that ur friend is ur urself only. Yes there is light, good road, hospital etc. All those things will count for nothing if depression set in. Abroad is : work - house- baff - eat - sleep and d circle continues everyday 24/7 and 365 days. No room to visit friends because those ur friends are also in the same routine. The only solution is go on vacation maybe in America or come to Nigeria lounge in a five star hotel spend some days there before going back to ur routine Abroad.

what's your definition of enjoyment?

He's talking about loneliness not enjoyment.

You might even have money and yet be lonely.

You're a black living in the midst of whites. Do you know what it means ?

Imagine being the only black in your office and the neighbourhood.

Trust me money can't solve everything
I follow people who are there and they honestly look like they aren't doing bad as they have found communities(church, school, country, career-related) for themselves especially countries where there are a lot of Black people.

They also engage in extra curricular activities like school/community politics/leadership, outdoor learning activities/sports etc. That way, they get to mingle with people.

Well, for persons who are islands and who naturally enjoy their own company, are not comfortable with people around or intruding their privacy, they can stay indoors for years and not feel like they miss anything, those kind s of persons may not necessarily feel the loneliness. These things are relative. I really don't want to give personal examples.

The sad reality you still haven't understood is that not everyone cut corners and you're mentally poor to know that! You're used to bribe, corruption, feeding crumbs to your family and enjoying no benefit from the tax you pay. These are among the reasons a retärded creature like you couldn't live in a functional society.

Try to keep up.

Understand the system u live in. Your initial statement gave the impression the waiting time to see doctor in UK is 2 months.
You can see a doctor same day in walk in centres, out of hours and A/E, even if your headache has no red flag. But be ready to wait for hours because nobody will prioritize simple headache as urgent.

Coming from someone who's never board a plane before. I used to say it most Nigerian youth are the way they are because they're lazy and unproductive. Except to speak bad of their country, talk about sex, betting, there's nothing else in their brain.

According to you, someone cannot chose to leave a country if he wishes? I left Canada because I was done for good. I saw how things are, and can't be fooled into investing the money I've worked hard for years in Canada where tax will probably eat me dry and I'll always pay rent. So hard to build your own house without incurring serious mortgage. Took my Money, come back and still working for my organization

Aside from WAEC certificate, which I doubt you have, what else can you claim to have in that your God Forsaken hole in Nigeria?

You guys should stop misleading people. While you paint Canada as heaven, don't you think people need to know the downsides too?
Canada is not even easy to enter, the scores for permanent residency is almost 500 which most Nigerians cant even met. So no one cares who comes or not. What are the options for immigration if you ask me 100k nigerians have gone to uk on study visa and wont become citizens till like 7 years time. But a country like Canada gives permanent residency and citizenship in 3 years. Which u can still use to move to usa or elsewhere. U guys are talking about loneliness and cold. Una never serious. Many Nigerians who just graduated in uk and europe are looking for companies to sponsor them on visa with so much uncertainty . U think if they had chance to come to Canada they wont grab it Remain where you are no one is forcing you to come

Hope you know in UK of today, if you have a headache, unless it is absolutely reported as something that is about to kill you, you won't see a doctor till January.
I live in Hong Kong, same thing applies here. It's only in private hospitals you get to see doctors as you wish, which is super expensive.

I'm telling you facts.

If you are ill and you call your surgery, you would not be seen for easily 5 weeks.

If you call the hot line, only based on meeting the threshold on their checklist would they consider referring you to a doctor.

Talking from experience.

Yea, but then, also talk of the heavy taxes you pay with little savings. I have Canadians where I live who came to seek greener pastures here. If it was so much of a great place to live, I then wonder what these guys are doing here. Anyways, I agree it's easier getting PR and citizenship which is quite tough in other places.

I work with an international organization in Nigeria. Left Canada few years back. And I will tell you now that while healthcare isn't really strong in Nigeria, you can have access to doctors, nurses and health centre easily more than you can in Canada. It's also cheap. Some people prefer to fly home for surgery because of the expense.

I'm also currently in Canada for a conference. Need I tell you I can't even wait to leave already by next week.

Canada is not for everyone. Some Nigerians are happy there, but some Nigerians are sad there. Now that you know that you can't be happy in Canada, plan your next move away from that country.

I know that feeling of knowing that a country isn't where you want to live forever on the first day itself. You shouldn't have ignored it.

Living outside Nigeria is not for everyone. Some people have an outgoing personality. For me I'm an indoor person and coped well living outside Nigeria. Even when I lived in Lagos I hardly ever socialized with co-workers. My reason being that the more I keep to myself the less exposed I become to problems and issues. But I understand that some people are not like that. My friend recently move to Pickering, Ontario from Lagos and he use to call me to ask things like "where is happening" and all. I say to him that I don't go out that often. I have a lot of friends here whom I was close to back in USA but they moved to Toronto after their studies in USA. I miss many invitations to meet up with them. Tomorrow is thanksgiving and I reluctantly bought a ticket to Chicago to spend the weekend with some friends. This is my nature and I have never found Toronto boring.

Please do what works for you best as I believe you had a reason for moving to Canada. I moved to Toronto because the tech sector in Nigeria was still pretty much in its infantry stage and I wanted to work in a developed economy to update my skills and work on some real projects. So far so good software engineering is booming in Canada. I'm able to save between CAD2k and CAD3k monthly after all expenses. A lot of black women in Canada are also bored and ready throw themselves at a guy that talks to them. So I get your point that boredom is a real issue especially for newcomers who know very few people here.

Believe me, 90% of Nigerians here are secretly unhappy and lonely but they won’t tell you. I have a relative who convinced me that Canada is heaven, he and his family are so lonely that whenever I visit, the kids beg me to stay longer. They are so sad, lonely and cold.
