The point is to win, not to be 'not bad'. Quite mediocre a standard you are setting. In 5 years if your system eventually works we'll revisit the subject, and i'll give you your flowers. Until then if you lose hold your L. Winning is the ultimate test of a system(short and long term). Besides you cannot be comparing Spain getting knocked out to City losing games. Not comparable. Maybe consistently hitting a roadblock in the champions league would be a fair comparison.
Succint. Concise and eloquently put.

You missed the central and only point of the anecdote. The story is not about rich or poor. Beggar or king. Let us penetrate beyond forms and grasp meanings. The story is about standards and judgment. Every man is judged according to certain standards. Judging Spain's performance according to Spain's standards, the conclusion by Spaniards and international media (not goodjoe) is that their performance in 10 years is poor and that tiki taka is boring.

You are deviating totally from your point. Your point is that Spain is poor. I know Spain's standard. Spain did not spend years researching and running a program all through different sectors of their football for low standards.

You tried to paint one of the top-performing teams as poor. You did not paint them poor with Spanish standards.

The fact is that Tiki taka is still ruling and Spain is doing well.

It is comparable when you look at it in the long term and with games. Not caging your mind in the box of World Cup groups and games.

That is why people will think Amunike failed in the U20 because he did not qualify but calculative minds will look at his performance with respect to time. Playing about 50 games and losing only one. Winning a high ratio of them. If that was a league, he will scale it.

That is why I laugh when people try to mock tiki-taka and the Spanish football philosophers. They are changing the game of football.

Guardiola, Enrique, thanks for this lovely post, now Arteta are spreading their ideas.

They have helped coaches catch up with their tactics and leveled the playing ground a bit.

Guardiola released a full dvd of his coaching methods.

Tomorrow people will start laughing if they lose few games.

Spain is poor. One semi final is 10 years by any standard is poor and even awful by Spanish standards. That point was about them being judged by their own standards does not negate the point about them being poor regardless.

What is the evidence that Spain is a top performer in over 10 years? One semi final in euro and 3 wins spread across 3 world cups!

After this you will say they are not poor, you will mention semi at the Euros, you will mention nations league. You have a reputation to keep as per you know how to argue. Well then but My point is made and I believe that the evidence tilts heavily towards the points I have made.

You sound as if Spain only plays in the World cup. The Euros and Nations League are competitions Spain actively took part in. If you look at all their performances, you will see they are doing well.

Also, in the last world cup, they, unfortunately, lost Lopetegui. They were flying before that trauma.

So stick with all the facts and stop cherry picking views that do not paint the big picture.

What he does is to hold on to the slightest hem of the garment to press home his point forgetting that matters ought to be evaluated on a scale of preponderance.

As far as the argument regarding Spain's performance is concerned where does the scale tilt if we weigh the evidence of their performance over a period of 10 years?

He's even using nations league to argue. Like make person use Chan argue. Before argument ensue that Chan and nations league are not the same, the point is that these are tournaments with low pedigree. Nations League is just burgeoning

Rest with your agenda against the Spanish team grin

Semi finals of the Euros is very good. They lost by penalties. That is fantastic. Yet to their standards, it is beggarly. Defeats your point that they are poor.

Finito.

Big levels.

What most of our local coaches do is to wait for competent coaches like this to start making waves so they can ride on it and start the 'local coaches are better' conversation, just like they're doing right now. They'll also look for ways to try to cunningly sneak themselves into the job but I can smell their antics from a mile away.

This man won the CAF champions league before getting appointed. We need to start setting standards in this country.

one semifinal in euro, a tournament where they won only 1 game in normal time, drew 2 games in their group, won second round 5-3 AET, won the quarters by Pk and lost semi by pk

I have talked about variants. I wonder where I said I was happy Arteta left. You must have missed the perspective.

My problem with Arteta is that there are numerous occasions he parks the bus. That does not change his philosophical clout.

I am an Arteta fan since PSG when many did not know him. I will rate the purist over him, does not mean he is not highly regarded by me.

This is precisely how you argue cyclically. Let me break my points me down for you:
Compared to the top nations, Spain is poor.
Compared to their own records, Spain is poor.

I made the first point before I made the second to buttress and emphasize the first point. Think logically, no just dey argue.

So stop going on and on talking about beggarly like you've hit a jackpot.

I asked of 2016 Euro because you said that world cup is not the only tournament and that I cherry pick.

But just because you know that Spain was knocked out in 2016 by Italy in the second round, you glibly ignored it and flew over to 2021. You indeed have a reputation to keep as one who loves to argue just for the sake of it if not what you posted makes no sense given the fact that you know that I know that Spain reached the Semi in 2021.
