Leave it alone people. Ikwerres have a massive Igbo influence in everything except for eating Eba and fried fish I don't think Igbos do that. Ikwerres have to be of Igbo extration cause of their names and dialect. Amaechi is not an Ijaw name is it? The point is Ikwerres are Igbo. An Igbo can easily speak Ikwerre and vice versa. But here is the important thing; Don't hate them cause they don't want to be Igbo they have influence from other tribes too. What does Rotimi means in Igbo? Nothing Rotimi is a Yoruba name. Ikwerres have influence from Ijaw, Ogoni and other surrounding tribes but the major influence is Igbo and Igbo land should be recognized as their mother tribe. Just identify them as Ikwerres if they don't want to be called Igbo. They are IGBOs |

My elder sister's name is Chika, does that make her Japanese considering Chika is also a Japanese name? What about the youngest who is Azuka, is she now Japanese because some Japanese bear the same name? Igbo people sef. Ndi ofeke. Sheesh [/quote] |

fortunatagraham:It is not what people tell you, it is what you tell people, you guys projected fear and confusion first, then others bought into it. Na person wan tell you who you be? Very nauseating comment. You should be self aware and confident about it. Can you convince an Ijebu or Owo man that he is not yoruba?(Oyo) You will only try in vain. Even if the Owo man, his ancestors just migrated there from Benin three generations ago to Owo and he is aware, he will still find a link to Ife. What about the Ijebu sudanese ancestry story, did it scale through in giving Ijebu a distinct identity? It did not, even when men from your stock tried creating a distinction, men from that tribe kept saying I am Ijebu, I am yoruba. If every Ikwerre person here tells everyone they come across they are Igbo, this thread will not be here. Many of the other non-Igbo group, are aware of your Identity, especially the learned ones, they are just trying to create confusion. It is about self denial for them, they wonder in awe how the Igbo can be so large If they are given an order to murder every Igbo person in Nigeria, these guys will not spare you or a julius Agwu 1 Like |

Their Igbo features are deeper than those guys from the east, these guys are more Igbotic than those guys from the east. |

Re: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by omonnakoda: 6:12pm On Dec 14, 2022 |
UGBE634:Ikwerre identify Igbos as Isu oma meaning good slave They owned and sold Igbos as slaves for centuries so they cannot identify as Igbo They see Igbos as slaves but are just being polite and politically correct in not saying so When slave trade ended the population of Igbos exploded leading to what we have today but previously Ikwerre and Ijaws used Igboland as a human poultry from where they harvested slaves |

UGBE634:They are not Igbo. They made that clear already In Ikwerre language Isu oma means good slave |
Re: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by UGBE634: 6:51pm On Dec 14, 2022 |
omonnakoda:The word Isuoma itself is Igbo, there is no group with the sole name Igbo. They are all Igbos, what would only make sense is that they sold some other igbo groups just the way some Yoruba groups sold some others |
Re: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by omonnakoda: 7:12pm On Dec 14, 2022 |
UGBE634:It has a different meaning in Ikwerre language That there is similarity proves nothing Even Yoruba which is miles away have similar words like Okuta stone Apo bag House Ile or Ule Ear eti To give a few examples Ikwerre is a similar BUT different language to Igbo just like Spanish , Italian and Portuguese are similar but DIFFERENT Isuoma may have a meaning in Igbo that does not mean it cannot have another meaning in Ikwerre Isu oma is good slave |
Re: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by UGBE634: 7:18pm On Dec 14, 2022 |
omonnakoda:Ikwerre is similar But different just as how Nsukka is similar but different, an Ikwerre man will even understand central Igbo better than a man from Ezza in Ebonyi state. Those guys from Imo and Abia axis understand Ikwerre very well better than a man from Oyo would understand Owo |
