Pele is the greatest player ever period... and not because he has 3 world cups only. He was the heart of the team ... the one that the opposing team be scratching their heads to devise plans and strategies to contain him.... the one who creates havoc for the opposing team ... the crafty super talented one with a whole bag of tricks.... the one who his team is reduced to just another competitive team if he is not included ... the one that made changes to the game... the one that inspired others who copied sooo many of his moves. Which other player is so talented ... creative and brought new moves to the sport? Messi? ... Maradona? ... Ronaldo? The greatest is more than number of cups. Michael Jordan has 6 rings ... Robert Horry has 7 ... Bill Russell has 11 .... so why is Michael Jordan considered the greatest? Simple... the impact he has on the sport. What record does Tiger Wood have?... but yet considered the greatest... why? Pele is the greatest ... fact. 1 Like |

Amalekki: The funny thing is this same Sunday Oliseh called Ronaldo the GOAT just before Portugal Match up with Morocco! Why the about-face when Messi delivered the World Cup some days later? Why suddenly go wake up Pele? Was he suffering from Dementia when he said CR7 was the GOAT? 3 Likes 1 Share |

Segzy19: Abegi! I watched Oliseh in 1998 and I disagree with him. Even he did not watch Pele play. What he knows about Pele na wetin Westerhof tell am for training camp. That said it is gratifying to see hurt CR7 fans remember that Pele played and won 3 WC. So overnight CR7 is no longer in th GOAT conversation? Wetin happen It’s so beautiful to see. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

Oliseh made a very valid point. Don't compare Messi with Pele. Pele lifted 3 world cups before he was 30 years old! Messi got his first world cup at 37. To me it's a crime to compare CR7 and Messi to King Pele 3 Likes |

iykofias: Pele played at a time when the ball was heavier, when two-footed tackles were still very much in vogue, and the chances of ending up in an orthopedic ward after a match was fairly high. The era of the hard man - you know, miss the ball but not the man Hell, Pele is the G.O.A.T https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnHqVfrJZg8 2 Likes 1 Share |

Sorry , but Pele is greater than Messi or Ronaldo Even if you discountenance all his achievements the fact is, 17 year olds don't score goals in a world cup final...let alone two goals. 1 Like |

So it means the football age you were using to play is false because going by your so-called DOB, there is no way you could have seen Pele play to be able to make a judgement... 3 Likes 1 Share |

I think people should start thinking properly, WC is a collective prize won by a team, what we mean by GOAT is the impact the player has have on the game, people around him and overall winning everything football has to offer. There is only one person that have done that and his name is ........... complete the blank space AlmightyMod is here 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Sunday Oliseh is confused. First how many nations were competing for world cup during the era of Pele. It was easier then to win world cup due to the small number of countries competing then. Two, there was nothing Pele won that Messi had not won, unless we speak of things Messi had won which Pele win. To be fair to Pele, most of these things were not in existence then. Three, in the modern day football, Messi had won everything. Everything you could think of. Leo has nothing else to win. Based on this my submission, may the whole court rise for the Greatest Player of All Time, far above that of Pele or Maradona - the name of the wizard is Lionel Andreas Messi 6 Likes 3 Shares |

Masterito:Pele wouldn't have been able to win three world cups if he were playing today... For the fact he was not tried in Europe leaves a very important box unchecked in his resume... If a human can perform as Messi did on Sunday and indeed all through their matches in Qatar, that human is the GOAT... Na only for naija una dey make yeye argument, elsewhere Messi has been declared the GOAT by almost all knowledgeable sportspeople... 7 Likes 4 Shares |

Why Pele remains the greatest footballer of all time Source: https://medium.com/totalfootball/why-pele-remains-the-greatest-footballer-of-all-time-1fc00bea0120 Few dieticians back then. Fewer physios. No Analytics to show how to dominate or work the field. People ask why Pele did not play in Europe, forgetting just how rampant racism was across the continent. Pele was the GOAT - no arguments P.S - You can count on the Nintendo/Indomie generation to think otherwise. 1 Like |

Sweetplum:Ok sighted We're talking about a general role as a player. And Messi is far from Ronaldo in that, Ronaldo do not come close. Talking about a striker: Lionel Messi is more of a play Maker than a striker because he controls the game. So his position most of the time is the midfield, and a player like that is supposed to have high number of assist than goals, but he's competing with the best strikers in the world in terms of goals. Ronaldo Ronaldo that you people are talking about as the highest goal scorer is just 26 goals ahead of Messi who's closing in faster than Ronaldo can score. And Ronaldo has played 142 more games than Messi. Before you push me into the GOAT DEBATE your ewu's world cup should be on the table 6 Likes 3 Shares |
