If only you knew the number if elite that have lost their lives to bad roads in the country, you will get just how Nigeria is the great equalizer.

The news didn't say he had an accident due to bad roads na. The news only talked about him being involved in an head-on-collision with a Tanker which could happen on a good road when both drivers are driving on high speed on a road that has no median

Are you a local yahoo boy? I guess you're not

Education is a scam was a cruise statement invented by local yahoo boys. These boys don't know how to write or even speak English but re collecting thousands of dollars from oyibo people, it works for them because they carry juju (Oki ite, udu Ako mmiri and others)
They just copy and paste from the already written format gives to em by their Oga, they can't type on their own, only the thing in that format and client will be paying. I have seen em well well, even in banks, they can't fill any form given to em by bank workers, they will call the gateman working in the bank to fill for em after they will settle em. They're the ones that invented that slogan "school nah scam" because they're collecting money oyibo people that re learned without difficulty.

So how can undergraduate in a university believe that slogan and was asking it as a question to a presidential aspirant. If the questionare believe that slogan, he should sharply drop out and become keyboard warrior. Obi is not an educational therapist, that question should be directed to his professor.

Tinubu's own re important issues the country is facing (insecurity, oil theft , economy, any presidential aspirant is a must to know how to tackle em.

Obi's question that he delegated is about "school nah scam" grin grin

Thank you.

There are questions meant to be answered by a presidential aspirant.

It's like somebody asking Peter Obi the definition of osmosis. A reasonable candidate should redirect the question to the appropriate quarters.

Asking a presidential candidate about 'school na scam' is a silly question for the moment and Peter Obi earns more respect in redirecting the question to those who should be responsible.

It is lack of sense to use that as a fallback to the irresponsibility of Tinubu.

The most annoying part is that those who claim to be neutrals fell for that stupidity. That they fell for it simply exposed them.

You cannot support Tinubu and not be stupid.

From some recent govt policies on road infrastructure that I read it's not the second niger bridge that will be tolled.

Whether we like it or not govt has to find a sustainable way of funding of maintenance of road infrastructure. Based on global best practice what other ways can govt finance road maintenance that haven't been explored?

Itsrm:

I thought of it as well but I think people paying or not will depend on the amount being tolled. If its 500 or less, people will pay. Apart from the hold up on the headbridge, there used to be serious hold up around that Electronics market. You don't want to be caught in it. I don't know if that has changed sha.

There's also those who have contraband they are carrying and want to avoid the military guys at the old bridge.

Transport companies can also transfer the cost to their passengers so its none of their business.

Jokes apart I'm happy you put up Fashola's quote which corroborates what I've insisted all along that the bridge itself is completed but the access roads still need to be finished.

Where me and izzou differ is that he insists because some of the access roads are not ready then the bridge itself hasn't been completed. At least cars are now passing the 'uncompleted' bridge which is enough for me. cool

grin grin grin

I don't know why this seems like something from Ambode's playbook ; rushing to commission uncompleted Airport road and Oshodi Interchange in 2019. Oh! Now I understand, Buhari was invited to commission the project that year, he must taken that key point from Ambode sha.

Obi did nothing wrong in delegating answers infact it's a sign of good leadership when you assign tasks to competent individuals to handle however the argument a few BAT supporters and posters are putting forward is why were you so hard on their principal when your candidate did something similar?

Anyway it's not a new phenomenon a lot of the stuff we criticized GEJ for Buhari got a free pass. At the end of the day we're all biased and hypocritical only levels differ.

Everyone support and back your preferred candidate but easy on the virtue signaling.

Or OBJ that went to some place in Ogun State to do press conference about start of a railway projects grin

Even Sanwo-Olu that completed the blue line light rail don't be surprised if it doesn't begin conveying passengers until towards the end of next year.

The serious traffic at that Electronics market has changed. Since Willie expanded that road, it has been different

Also, the Old bridge experiences heavy traffic during festive periods; much expected because people from other parts of Nigeria are coming home. What of periods that the traffic is less? Would anyone leave a free way to go and pay 500 bucks on the 2nd one? I doubt that.

Also, the sit-at-home on Mondays automatically translates to next-to-nothing revenue for that bridge. That is also a problem

People from the West, going to PH hardly pass Onitsha anymore. They prefer to find their way from Delta, to the East/West road. And unfortunately, this category are those who are expected to use the 2nd Niger bridge too

Lastly, trailer drivers would rather use the old one than pay 1,500 for the new one (afterall, the company has provided diesel for the whole journey).

I just think the old one is a bad market for the new one. I mean, the divertion to the new one is on the road to the old one. So if i see that the road is free, i can decide to stick with the old one, rather than the new one

I believe the original idea is to have rail lines joining the south and the north, that way heavy duty trucks populating the highways will be replaced with Cargo trains which will ferry goods from one far end of the country to the order. For example having cows transported from the core north to the southern parts of the country. All things being equal, it should make our roads more safer and the cost of maintaining roads too will reduce.

Maiduguri is in the North East. This is a region that has insecurity issues. So this rail is probably going to pass through regions of the NE.

So what is the traffic like, even in terms of Cargo?

If it was the NW, like Kano, i can see the economic benefits.

But Maiduguri? Damaturu?

You better believe there are no neutrals here. Everyone has an agenda. Playing neutral is also an agenda so they can emotionally blackmail the otherside firing from all cylinders to tone down while turning a blind eye to the side they tacitly support.

Again, Nairaland is the second most visited Nigerian website after Bet9ja and ranks the highest in Google search results. Twitter, Facebook and research platforms like Nairametrics and Researchgate regularly reference Nairaland threads and comments. Noticed there are only about 200 active users on this thread (main + alternate accounts) but almost 54 thousand views?

Counter the lies and half-truths with facts else they'd spread and seep into the fabric of our national discourse in no time.
Nihilistjnr, this was my comment on the 12th of August. I was also referring to you. That was in the heat of the debate about Nigeria cannot work and not caring about the outcome.

You are no neutral. Digz isn't too even though he tried to come off as one but was derobbed last month.

No. Knowing you Joe, you love playing the Devil's advocate. And your main grouse against Obi isn't personal or his tribe - you just don't want to support anyone ever linked to the PDP in the past. Which is odd because all major players had PDP links and Tinubu sabotaged his own party for Jonathan/PDP in 2011 so they were allies at a point. Until he wanted to be GCFR.

On another note, do you really believe Nigeria can work and things can actually get better?.

Guy you're the one giving yourself unnecessary headache.

The bridge that is the vital part of the project has been completed that is a fact no matter the rigmarole you're engaging in.

If access roads are ready and there's no bridge then would cars be able to get across?

If you had simply said the second niger bridge project isn't complete then we won't be having this back and forth but because you were trying to claim buhari like GEJ didn't finish the bridge you used access roads as excuse.

Anyway let's end it here the bridge itself is not complete I agree the cars passing now are paddling through water. abi?

yes I'm well aware of the emboldened. Still the same, there is never a time or is it on record that Asiwaju ever decamped to join another political party. Same can't be said for Peter Obi who left APGA, decamped to PDP when it suited him, then left PDP to join LP because it suits him more.

So I'll tell you, Obi is no better than Atiku, FFK, Dino Melaye and any other politician who decamp the way prostitutes change customers as long as they know it will favour them.

Yeah well I get you but sometimes it seem hopeless. I mean with the way the country is pummeling into a state of almost complete lack of morals, values, ethics and the likes.

Doing the right thing now in Nigeria will make you an easy target for you to be preyed on, and you'll be tagged 'fool'. Almost everything seem to be going south and nothing ever seems to work.

Lol. I also didn't know the economic importance of the NE till I served in the NW. For example Potiskum in Yobe state has one of the largest cattle markets in West Africa. They transport cattles from there to all other parts of the country; in fact traders come from neighboring countries like Benin, Cameroun, CAR etc come to buy and sell there. Most of the cattles we eat in the south comes from there.

Don't be surprised people live in Maiduguri till date and enough people travel all those axis wella. There are some NE states that are big on agriculture too.

If government should only focus on improving the infrastructure on only places like NW and parts of the south, trust me it will only lead to more poverty for people in less developed regions and surely those people will migrate to the developed areas turning to thieves, bandits, and other criminal elements.

I never said I was neutral sir.

I have repeatedly expressed my disdain for the current contraption called Nigeria. My position is well known.

The BATist accusation is laughable because you can literally do a search on my posts to see what I think of Tinubu. My position on Tinubu is very explicit on this forum.

I am a Yoruba man, with familial roots in Ebute-Metta since the 30s when my grandfather moved there. My father was born on Moloney street in Ebute-Metta. I was born in Ilaje Bariga.

I should be the archetypal Tinubu supporter and I DETEST the man. He posesses almost no redeeming factors in my opinion. If you're from where my family is from in Lagos, you only have to look across the lagoon and compare living conditions to begin to understand why.

Accusing me of being a Tinubu supporter in response to asking why Obidients are not criticising Obi for doing exactly what Tinubu did is telling, but not unexpected...it's clear that the aim of the game is to do as i dont. grin
