freeborn02: Only fools like your father, respond to stupid questions, smarter than your father, mother and Ohaneze, who allow a gay fool like Kanu colonize them. Nobody is saying Tinubu built Lagos prior 1999, but we are saying he is the one behind urbanization of Lagos, the mega city plan was his idea. Obi have nothing to it's name. The thing is you people think too low and dumb, hard to hold a meaningful conversation with flaat heads, the head is too flat, brain minerals not enough. Obi is just a chairman of traders association, compared to Tinubu. 1 Like |

How can you know if someone is a gay if you are not a gay too? How did you become a gay? Did your cursed father introduce it to you? |

I see a lot of back and forth here, arguments for and against status of Lagos in reference to Nigeria. The problem here is Yoruba love facts, and use evidence based information to speak. Your statement would ordinarily be understood by people that love facts. They will examine it and learn from it, no argument or conflict. Conflict arise only when the people reading your statement have learning deficiency, and lack appreciation for truth and facts. To them, lies, fakes, forgery and fabrications of stories are the mainstream of daily exchange, thus they have mental intolerance for Yoruba truth. They have to be taught, like you would a small child. You will need plenty patience, talk to them like 5yr olds, stop talking to them like you are on same level and development. They might be adult, but you approach the teaching same way you will teach abc. A for Akpu, B for Biafra, C for Chuku okike abiama. So, Im calling on you Yorubas, be matured and have perspective when you relate with yanminri. Now, let me speak to Ibos that are arguing against the facts on ground. My Ibo people, before, and after independence, there was a place called Lagos. This Lagos sef was sorrounded by water. People crossed from other parts come there to trade. Na Ijebu people controlled trade. The story of Lagos long, too long to tell it here. What we now call Lagos is different from what old Lagos was. Old Lagos comprise native land of Ilu Eko, Ehingbeti, Ilubirin, Ebute. There were several Ebute. Long story short, Gowon issued Decree 14 in 1967, everything scatter since. Lagos State was created after independence. What we call Lagos State today had three administrative authorities in the place. The three were - 1. Lagos Municipal Council 2. Lagos City Council 3. Western Administrative Authority. Lagos Municipal Council was a squatter on the land, and paid rents. It's Administrator was the FG of Nigeria. Its territory started where Broad Street runs into the Marina beach head. Right about where CFAO and SCOA buildings are. It runs along the water like that all the way to where McGregor canal dumps into Lagoon. Cut it across from there into Onikan, up through King Gorge V Road to Keffi and Obalende. Bring it back to old secretariat to cross McGregor canal on Lafiaji side, to Moloney, down like that to KC to Holy Cross, through Kakawa, back to Tinubu, then zip through Broad street again to Breadfruit and back to the termination on Marina beach. Everything in that circle is under Lagos Municipal. The seat of Municipal governmet was Governors House on Marina (across the street and lawn where NITEL is) After military took power, they shifted seat of government to their barracks for safety against coup surprises. Thats why military head of state stayed in Dodan Barracks. Lagos City Council was representation of indigeneous rulers and native Lagosians. Anything not under Municipal Council was under City Council, or Western Authority. City council did not cross water, it remained encircled by water. If you cross water, you are no longer in the jurisdiction of Lagos city council. Infact, if you cross water you are no longer in jurisdiction of Lagos Municipal or Lagos City. So what about Yaba, Surulere, Ebute Meta, Ijora, Apapa, and so on? These places were land holdings and the prerogative of native Barons, secured by a court decision of July 1921 between Amodu Tijani and Secretary, Southern Provinces. These areas were developed with land lease. FG of Nigeria is paying rent, or in some cases has transferred ownership to Lagos State. Example is the high rise in Shitta. The people were relocated from Lagos Island after an epidemic breakout. Yaba was developed for technocrats serving under colonial government. Ebute Meta was a harbor under Ijebu control and had a toll, until they lost it to colonial government. National Theater had a lease from Ijora family. Festac village was a lease from Oluwa family. Surulere was a marsh ground, also developed by Lagos City Council. The development was done by LEDB, Lagos Economic Development Board. The moment you cross into places like Mushin, Ikeja, Ilupeju, Agege, Oshodi, Shomolu, Akoka, and so on, you are now under Western Authority. So, if ibo want claim protection under Federal Govt, you first need to know FG is a tenant of Lagos, not its owner. If omoibo need additional clarification on wetin FG dey do for Lagos to begin let me know. I will take zoo animal explain. 3 Likes |

seeyounow: The Map was perfectly Correct Lagos Mainland was part of Ikeja LGA before the War Ikeja and Ikeja LGA was built by Awolowo not Gowon Ikeja before the War included all the Coast Of Lagos except for Lagos Island Ikeja LGA included the entrance to Lagos Harbour Apapa, Tin Can Island , Ebutte Meta, Iddo Island were all n Ikeja LGA before the War Lagos the FCT ended at Apongbon Bridge on Lagos Island The rest of Lagos was in Awolowo’s Western Region Any FG buildings in the Western Region Lagos we’re allowed on land leased from the Western Region only as a Favour to help the FG because it had completely run out of Space on the Lagos Island It didn’t change the Status Of the Western Region Side Of Lagos Which is at least 97% of today’s Lagos All of today’s Metropolitan Lagos was Politically and Militarily under the Ijebu and Egbas Of Abeokuta when the British Arrived in Nigeria though the Egba controlled Areas actually belonged to the Yoruba Awori The Oyo Army controlled Badagry Area , Seme Border And Porto-Novo. In Benin Republic and Yoruba Awori fully controlled Lagos Island . 1 Like

ImperialYoruba: God Bless you for this The moment you crossed over water from Lagos Island the FCT you had automatically entered the Western Region Lagos Even the entrance into Lagos Harbour leading to the FCT Lagos Island was in the Western Region ,so the FG couldn’t make any Major Military Moves on Lagos Island without the Western Region being Aware Of it Which was very handy as Awolowo didn’t Trust Balewa And Azikiwe Wisdom must have almost killed Awolowo and the Western Region forefathers Even the British couldn’t take their Land and they always made sure they maintaed controll Of the Strategic areas It was the Egbas Of Abeokuta who controlled Ebutte Meta before Glover seized it from them after they blockaded Lagos And Glover handed it back to the Awori who were the Original Owners, the Oloto Of Otto to be exact 1 Like

izombie: Not too shy to show ignorance in public space? Lemme make it simpler for you. Lagos (the island) was carved out to be the capital of Nigeria. The surrounding region (mainland) was part of Western Nigeria. When Lagos State was created, it incorporated the mainland and surroundings, leaving the Island as the FCT. When the FCT was moved to Abuja was when the Island became part of Lagos State. I've never read any dumber analogy as the Abuja one you made. Abuja was carved out specially to be the FCT. Just like Washington DC. There's a reason why you don't have Abuja State. 1 Like |

Bendeco02: Reading this makes me realize why Nigerians are generally not knowledgeable. Reminds me of a day I was watching football in a pub. In a discussion I told some of the fans there (mainly university students) that Brazil was the only Portuguese speaking nation in South America, while almost all the rest were Spanish speaking. I couldn't believe my ears when ALL of them started saying Brazil was Spanish speaking, and how I thought I knew anything blah blah. I just did what I do with stupid ignorant people; I ignored them and allowed them to wallow in their stupidity and ignorance. 2 Likes |
