We should just start picking scapegoats to shoot on the street one by one. Maybe then their foolish brains will learn to respect the armed forces.

should we begin with you?

Hmmm!!!

In a saner clime proper and thorough CSI would have been carried out before the trials.

Evidences will be properly obtained and assembled to prevent a charade, it’s a sensitive case and everyone wants a speedy trial and the state also cannot afford to loose its face hence this whole rush into the court.

If eventually Mr Vandi is found guilty the evidences should be based on hard facts and not prima facie or suggestive.

Oga barrister,
While I do not disagree with what you have said, I think there are many things in our judicial system that elongates issues un- necessarily.
I will like to refer you to a case in Sudan just yesterday on BBC Africa Live. A certain revenue official shot and killed a trader in public glare for not paying tax. Mr. Killer was arrested and the story there is that it took ' just a court session" to sentence the idiot to death.

My question:
Was the judgement unfair on the defendant?
What is it that made the process fast as the speed of light?
Why the need for too much legalities when it comes.to our case in Nigeria?

So much to ask

idk but I think Waf happened is that during the stop and search they were ordered to stop but u knw typical Nigerians how they drive past FRSC officers wen they re told.to stop, I think the husband was driving the vehicle and ran past the two officers seeing that this vehicle was making the run for it, the officer quickly used deadly force to halt, but the issue here is how much force was applied and the situation did it require an authorized use of deadly force ? there were options avaliable to him, could av shot at the tires , to deflate them or used the tire puncture roller, those people could av been criminals so that's where the entirety of it all lies, if the vehicle had no number plates that's a bad case for the Victims family

Police officers are trained to make assessments of heightened security threats and apply deadly force when needed but this officer made the wrong call, Is a very dark day for the officer and the family of the victim, the husband should also be arrested to driving against two officers,

I had a similar experience, I was in a vehicle and we approached a checkpoint, the first officer told the driver to park at a little distance the driver drove slowly to d distance and immediately picked up speed and past officers, I heard one of the officers cock his gun and was ready to shoot it was we the passengers that told d werey driver to stop the bus, one of the passengers in d front held d drivers wheel with him and forced him t stop, do u knw if d police opened fire the driver won't be killed it would av been a back seat passenger that would die for the senseless driver

Is it possible that the policeman is lying? Consider that. After all, he still didn’t say his colleague shot her, he said he heard a noise. Maybe the woman was even shot by someone in the vehicle after all they didn’t stop when they were asked to stop. Perhaps you should consider the fact that calling him a witness does not mean he is a witness for the prosecution. In this case, he is a witness for the defendant. His narration will always be to the favor of the defendant.
DWJOBScom:
I said it!
I was telling my colleague the other day that there's more to this case that it's best to calm down.

It's either the driver didn't stop and infuriated the policemen or the policemen were assassins cos it doesn't work that way anymore.

Now, the first one - the driver didn't stop
Second , the car had no plate number

From the look of things , the family is connected, so the Police has no right to stop them or they were afraid of being stopped by the Police for driving a car without a plate number or a case of accidental discharge.

For the so sensitive emotional beings that will say plenty- you are welcome

But let's be frank, this woman may have contributed to her death. How would you disobey authority when flagged down. Moreover, the car had no plate number. Obviously she felt since she's lawyer she can do and undo. This was how a custom officer was killed by a soldier after they declined to stop.

Whoever you're please respect authority to avoid stories that touch.
What is the meaning of this nonsense u write here? The car nor get number and the bastard simply shot them? Why shot rather than chase them?.There's no how the driver can escape if they chase them cos their station is just 2/3 min drive from that bridge. There's Elemoro station still in front, there's ogombo police station. There's another stop and check at Abraham Adesanya Estate junction. They should KILL the 3 police bandits angry

These are the illegal summersaults that ensures that criminals escape with minimal.punishment in Nigeria. I just referred someone to a recent case in Sudan where a revenue official shot a trader for not paying tax. The idiot was taken to court and his fate was decided in just a court session.

How my colleague killed Lagos lawyer during stop-and-search
— Police witness

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/576130-how-my-colleague-killed-lagos-lawyer-during-stop-and-search-police-witness.html
. The DPP in Lagos State must have seen no reason to add manslaughter and homicide to the charge of murder levelled against the accused person. It is certain that they were there on that day to collect Christmas money from those that ply the road. The accused person is drunk so he could not think rightly.. Other evidences will still be presented in courts. It is disturbing that a person can be shot because the vehicle did not stop.He did not even shoot the tyres. A wicked man who has no respect for the human life.

Perhaps you are the one who didn’t read it. I’m his initial statement (written), the police man wrote that he heard a noise. In the courtroom, he said he heard a gunshot.
BluntTheApostle:

Did you read the article at all?

Mr Ahmed said he heard a gunshot.

Since it happened behind him, the Attorney General wanted him to make certain that it was a gunshot (and not any other type of sound) he heard.

I hope the attorney general drills them with intelligent questions that would disorganise their well planned defense.
Re: How My Colleague Killed Bolanle Raheem During Stop-And-search — Police Witness by Timoleon(m): 7:12am On Jan 17, 2023
What’s the proof that there was no plate number? The police man is a witness for the defense, who do you think his story will favour?
maasoap:
But Nigerians too should try to do the right thing all the time to avoid issues like this one. No plate number and refusal to stop for police officers. This doesn't portray us as law abiding citizens. Nonetheless, that didn't justify the shooting and killing.

Good morning Oga. How did you conclude that the Yoruba are happy with Nigeria simply bc two of their sons are Vp & Speaker respectively? Of what benefit is that to an average Yoruba person? Didn't you read what happened at Ojota, Lagos a couple of weeks ago? Did that portray the whole Yoruba being happy with Nigeria?

Now that you already believe the police officer, what if the prosecution produce the said car with registered plate numbers)
thesicilian:
There's a lot of emotions involved in this case, and rightly so. But emotions do not win a case before an unbiased judge. Everything will still have to be based on evidence. I just hope the attorney general's office prepared very well before rushing this case to court. Because from what I'm seeing now from the witness, the case is already becoming "less straightforward"
1. The witness heard the gunshot, he said he wasn't looking, so that doesn't really prove the defendant shot her
2. The deceased driver outrightly flouted the law by not having an identifying number plate, by not stopping when flagged down by the police. He could claim he thought they were armed robbers.

I just pray the defence has many unbiased witnesses, not just those that were in the car but onlookers and passers by also.

The question we should ask the family is when did they buy their vehicle if the police are claiming the vehicle does not have a plate number? Is it possible to be driving unregistered vehicle for 4-5years in Lagos and not have entered into troubles with Law enforcement agents? A typical policeman you see on the road has lying dna engrafted in in his Gene

So the many drivers that have been killed for not parting with money at various stops are what?
Skty:

I believe the witness. There's no police officer that will shoot u after you have stopped. I'm not supporting the killing. But the lady contributed to her death. Two police officers stopped u and u continued driving. The third one was probably angry and drunk...and pulled the trigger. Like it all happened fast . He will go in for it. Q. E. D.

Re: How My Colleague Killed Bolanle Raheem During Stop-And-search — Police Witness by Mayfrank(m): 7:22am On Jan 17, 2023
All these emotions and speculations.

First of, they need to prove that the vehicle had no plate number, probably a new vehicle which I believe after the incident would still be unregistered till now. Proving this would make the husband guilty of evading the law.

Then the police officer too, is guilty of abusing his power. You don’t just open fire at a civilian vehicle let alone, a road filled with civilians. If it were on the express, it would be a different matter. He was obviously trigger happy. Now he’s killed someone and needs to answer for that.

Knowing how power abusive the police can be in Nigeria, I’ll honestly say if they find out that the vehicle wasn’t registered with license plate, then the husband also have a good portion of the blame.

It’s like you know you’re bleeding but you went swimming in a shark infested water. There’s nothing professional about our police system.
