This is still preliminary narration Na, how is it evidence? Evidence is something that cannot be contradicted. His story can easily be contradicted. How do you base your submissions on such?
thesicilian:

My submission is purely based on the available evidence so far. I'm very interested in what the other witnesses will have to say also

So are you saying that you are happy that she is dead just because she is a Yoruba and she might vote for tinubu? I can't pray for a bad thing to happen to you but i pray that you experience what you wish for others
Bede2u:
Suddenly yorubas are happy with Nigeria. The same yorubas who were complaining about poor governance and police brutality prior to 2015 are now happy with things. What has changed for the better from 2015 to now?
Well what changed is that a yoruba is vp and speaker. Very clannish
Bolanle could possibly have been one of those Nigerians who think that they punish igbos when they vote Buhari and Tinubu but Nigeria doesn't work that way naw

you see the way you have made a fool of yourself? was she the one driving? how is a car not having plates the justification for shooting at occupants in a vehicle?

You can also try your luck since you don't know you're in Nigeria and most of these police guys lack professionalism. When they stop you keep moving you hear.

Apart from "professionalism" why would a sane person not stop when flagged down? Will any of you try this nonsense abroad?

I was at Iwo, Osun state The sterling bank opposite the BOWEN bank. This one police man. An Ekiti, Ondo or Ijedha man was taking people inside the bank through the back door to use the Student ATM, just because of bribe. I approached him for such favour and the next things he said I should fear for my life. That means threatening kill.for what
I didn't argue with him. I just left the place.

This happened on 12/01/23. 8:30 am precisely.

They do the shooting deliberately. I've seen several police man threatening to shoot for no justification

Is it possible that the policeman is lying? Consider that. After all, he still didn’t say his colleague shot her, he said he heard a noise. Maybe the woman was even shot by someone in the vehicle after all they didn’t stop when they were asked to stop. Perhaps you should consider the fact that calling him a witness does not mean he is a witness for the prosecution. In this case, he is a witness for the defendant. His narration will always be to the favor of the defendant.

Very true
The point is avoiding the situation!
Now a life is taken

If the policeman wanted to shoot .. he could have shot in the air ( warning shot) or go for the tires

And The driver of the vehicle follow cause the woman death. He could have simply stopped. A policeman has the right to stop and search especially as this country is right now

Maybe they felt they were too important to be stopped by policemen.

Nigerian lawyers are always arrogant to law enforcement officers. Their regular line is "I am a lawyer, I can't take nonsense from you"

You didn't stop for stop and search while driving a vehicle without registration, what do you expect?
The police is using this particular officer as a scape goat cos he's not of Northern origin. See how quickly they pushed him to trial and abandoned him.

If this officer was a northerner, he will be hailed and defended for doing his job, 40 SANs would've volunteered to defend him in court.

But let's be frank, this woman may have contributed to her death. How would you disobey authority when flagged down. Moreover, the car had no plate number. Obviously she felt since she's lawyer she can do and undo. This was how a custom officer was killed by a soldier after they declined to stop.

Whoever you're please respect authority to avoid stories that touch.
If indeed she was flagged down twice and she refused to stop with a vehicle without plate number, then I don't know what to say again. Because it's a gross violation and impunity against constituted authority.

See nobody should play with his or her life. Especially at check points. Because if this narrative (testimony) from this officer is confirmed by the next witness (Officer) and it is established that she refused to stop after two attempts to stop her.

My dear, the case fit change direction ooh... That officer might just get a very light sentence. The Court is not a one way road. Court follows different directions.

If we check am that car had a plate number, we can’t expect him to say it as it is and what made it so fvcked up and annoying is we don’t have camera on our highways as these cameras would have helped solve many crimes Instead of sweeping them under the rug as they famed for, well I pray she finds rest and I pray God gives her family strength to forge ahead in this trying time
God rest her soul

No need for cameras in this case pls, forensic ballistics will surely match the bullet in the victim's corpse to that Vandi dude's unique weapon.

I can see that some ignorant Tinubu mongrels have already congregated here to lie that she was shot by unknown persons, the same way they lied over the Lekki massacre

PS: Even if the car had no numberplate it is not a capital offence

Did you read the article at all?

Mr Ahmed said he heard a gunshot.

Since it happened behind him, the Attorney General wanted him to make certain that it was a gunshot (and not any other type of sound) he heard.
lol u too made a mistake, it was not the attorney general that made that enquiry but the defendant lawyer, wanted to prove that the witness could have heard a noise and not a gunshot

I get the severity of that count, but I was expecting charges in line of his role as law enforcement against professional conduct, not adhering to ethics, misuse of firearm, something to act as deterrent to those who may not go as far as murder.
you are right and learned, in a saner clime, from that one event, that man would be facing several charges.

There's a lot of emotions involved in this case, and rightly so. But emotions do not win a case before an unbiased judge. Everything will still have to be based on evidence. I just hope the attorney general's office prepared very well before rushing this case to court. Because from what I'm seeing now from the witness, the case is already becoming "less straightforward"
1. The witness heard the gunshot, he said he wasn't looking, so that doesn't really prove the defendant shot her
2. The deceased driver outrightly flouted the law by not having an identifying number plate, by not stopping when flagged down by the police. He could claim he thought they were armed robbers.

I just pray the defence has many unbiased witnesses, not just those that were in the car but onlookers and passers by also.
I agree with you, I watched a lot of real investigations on Discovery ID and I know the prosecutors in US/UK don’t rush things. They make sure that they can prove beyond reasonable doubt that their suspect actually committed the offense. Sometimes they don’t have much to go on, but still make their case watertight before starting the trial.

Inspector Ebieme flagged down a car (referring to the deceased husband’s car), the car did not stop, I also flagged down the car, the car did not stop for me,” he said.

“After that, the next thing I heard was a gunshot. I looked back to see what was happening, I saw a car in which the front window was falling down.

“The next thing I saw was that one black woman jumped down from the vehicle. She held SUPOL Vandi and she said ‘oga, you have killed my sister’.

You claimed the car didn't stop for you too but you looked back when you heard the gunshot.

Something doesn't add up. The car ought to be ahead of you by now and you're supposed to look ahead not back ( as if the car was just approaching you )

Please, I need clarity on this

My first question also. At the very least they should have added manslaughter, excessive use of force, a lot of other charges. Because if the prosecution can't prove beyond reasonable doubt that this man actually intended to kill her, he just might walk free.
Negligence too.

Then they should have changed the police officer who was testifying with discrimination.

Why will he say " that one black woman jumped down from the vehicle"

my brother, if you like your life don't even put yourself in that position. Even a disciplined police officer in Nigeria might be forced to shoot.

Excerpt you are carrying exhibit, please just wait for few minutes and drive home safely, wisdom is better than plenty stories.
Even if that officer is killed today, that lawyer is gone forever. No play with your life ooh.. nobody get that leisure or time to chase you up and down for Lagos.

See, this is Nigeria also apply wisdom whenever you are in contact with armed person whether police or not.
Nobody has that time to be chasing you like we have in Hollywood movies.

One shot.... The rest is history!
I blame the driver of that vehicle, he played a part in the murder of that lawyer.
