This is Nigeria, not Europe.

I have MTN 5G. My 100gb data was exhausted within 5 days. Starlink is currently unlimited.

This is a joke right?

Oh yes I agree. I would love to lay my hands on one if I could. However, from an economic perspective its a No no. If Elon Musk is allowed to disrupt the Telco space, at least 40% of the revenue generated by all the Telcos would disappear. Thats means layoffs, reducing in taxes been paied to government and the effect would cascade to all areas of the economy. All he would be selling are modems, he doesnt need any form of infrastructure on ground, he doesnt need staff, wont pay much as taxes and wont be needing to hire anyone either. Elon Musk is a very dangerous man if allowed would kill local competition if given a chance, he is ruthless. If he is serious let him come on ground and start to invest in some form of infrastructure, let him buy a 5G spectrum to start with and come to Nigeria, he has money anyway.

It's actually a much-needed relief for many Nigerians paying through their noses just to access the internet. Starlink is an excellent development!

That would depend on the limitations of the router. You can use the router that came with it or get a 3rd party router. Usually the number of devices it can support should not be an issue. What should matter is the number of simultaneous devices the Speed will support. Speed will degrade as more devices are connected of course.

are you implying that facilities like hotels that host public wifi systems can't use it effectively

Bros, all these plenty grammer and panicking on top of Starlink? Oga chill na. Cool temper.

Actually, Starlink has an office in VI. They have a Nigerian tax ID and they have been collecting VAT in dollars for the Federal Government. Starlink already employed a couple of Nigerians and I'm sure that as subscriber base increases more Nigerians will be employed.

Starlink is targeting a different class of subscribers and your perceived economic apocalypse is not going to happen. The Nigeria market is quite large and the introduction of Starlink is unlikely to upset the balance.

Wish you were in Port Harcourt, I would have taken you to Lesukaa for a cold drink to cool this temper. Relax, okay? Relax. Entrance of Starlink is good for our economy.

This guy must be a Joker or something.

How many gig is MTN N32k data?

Just because you are a small user you believe everyone else is on your table.

Lollz

I use to burn 300-450Gb per month on FiberOne but I have relaxed now as I don't watch stuff on my android box like I used to.

Avoid projecting your circumstances on everyone else.

Even that my 300GB a month is some people's weekly usage.

Having said that Starlink is for power users ONLY otherwise it's a waste of money.

$43 (~₦19k; ₦32k) monthly for unlimited data is not bad. Way cheaper than the competition.

Assuming an average speed of ~150mbps (18MBPS) for which FiberOne and iPNX charge for ~₦62,000

However, the installation costs are steep: $600 (₦267,000 at bank rate; ₦450,000 at black market rate) vs ~₦50,000 for FOB or iPNX.

Reliability is a concern here though - would it work well in bad weather? Rains would start next year so I'll be waiting for your feedback by then.

Thanks for sharing.

PS how do you pay for subscriptions? Naira or dollar card?

It should work well in bad weather . The satellites are in a ring formation and you only stay connected to a satellite for about 4 minutes before handing over to another satellite. I think the speed is ok for the price and since it is unlimited, it is worth the money.
I seen people test in bad weather and it performed well with very low latency sef

In terms of latency,
1st - Microwave
2nd - Fiber Optic
3rd - dsl
4th - Satellite Internet.

Hi
What’s Wi-Fi.com startup price and monthly fee?
Is it unlimited and what’s the speed?

I think equipment is 45000 and monthly 12500 unlimited no throttling

You really just need an additional DNS provider to never be down in Nigeria I use a paid one called modafukaas that’s what hackers go after

After 600 dollars and the dns is Public it will still be an issue to connect.

Their equipment is too expensive but their car too is expensive so all na business

I am not saying the speed is low. The speed is decent. I am saying the speed will drop when many devices like 50 phones connected to the starlink router are using the starlink internet at the same time
meaning starlink runs a shared bandwidth. I thought it's dedicated, like a particular bandwidth is assigned to a user once you purchase the device ?

Unreliable internet has always been an issue for me in Lagos. The best Internet Service Providers use Fibre Optics but have very limited coverage areas. So when I heard Starlink would be rolling out their Low Orbit internet service in Africa, It Immediately piqued my Interest.

I made a preorder for the service in May of 2021 with a refundable deposit of $99. I did this due to the projected rollout of the service by the end of 2021. I did not get any update from Starlink until early december of 2022. I was told to pay up a balance of $501 so my exquipment would be shipped.

8 days after making full payment, my Starlink Equipment was delivered to me by DHL. It is a plug and play device that is easy to install by following very simple steps on the manual. I mounted the dish on my compound, at a postion with good sky visibility and the device connected to an available Satellite within a few minutes.

My Internet experience is now the best I have ever had it, here in Nigeria.

Total cost of Equipment $600
Monthly Subscription for Unlimited Internet $43
