Interesting discussion on Twitter concerning a female user who said she pays people to cook, mop, sweep and go to the market for her. In a country were the minimum wage is 35000, is paying your House help and domestic staff 15 to 25k monthly cruel exploitation of labor ?

https://twitter.com/uxcynn/status/1634838638692532225?t=qBdOwykFrCNMVaNsoxjGVg&s=19
15K to 25K is small, but the truth is most persons that need help with chores will want to pay around that range, and it won't be because they're wicked, country hard and e hard for everybody cheesy. Probably to make it easy for everybody, keep it chore based, so if you can finish all you need do in one hour, do it and go on with the rest of your day. The really enterprising ones can be working like this have up to 4 houses they're servicing and be get a much more decent wage.

Exactly what I do and always recommend. She comes, cleans, washes and goes. That way she will be happy to collect 15-25k and everyone stays happy.

The only disadvantage is that, because she can't get here early enough during the week, I have to wake early to support madam in preparing the kids for school. This denies me my sweet early morning sleep cheesy

I can't have a stranger living with us in the house. I cherish my privacy and I can't even trust them with the kids

Glorious, I've observed most of your posts and in as much as you come across as a rabble-rouser, you don't seem fanatical in anyway. And the fact that we both share liberal ideologies leaves me genuinely curious. During the American elections, we were practically on the same side, we wanted the same things.

So I'm offering a parlance of sorts, one where we both exchange ideas objectively, ie, without snarky comments, without condescension or disrespect and most importantly without any sense of DISINGENUITY, that is where we both know something is true and 100 percent fact but you try dance around it or misrepresent and twist facts deliberately, in other words, AMALANOMICS. That's let's just try and be as straight as we can be.

I want us to do this because I've seen the way you have constantly mischaracterized the obidient movement, and perhaps I'm also guilty of this, maybe I also mischaracterize all Bat supporters, so I would like us to speak as though we were in an official setting and exchange our ideas both respectfully and see each other's point of view.

Again, I'm doing this because I sense that at your core, you are not fanatical or radical. For example you are clearly a tinubu supporter but you haven't really been that vocal about that support rather you've mostly been on the offense against obidients. So maybe we could iron things out.

Are you game?
Do you accept this, so that we don't spend everyday just cussing and trolling endlessly. Let's get intellectual.

People say Obidients are an angry mob and they are right. Only abnormal people can be chill and relaxed with the state of the country.

It’s crazy how Nigeria can affect you psychologically in ways that don’t even seem possible. After hopping from ATM to ATM in Lagos in futile search for cash, paying extortionate withdrawal fees to agent bankers (a.k.a POS), my initial thought on seeing an ATM with no queue is, “ This ATM is probably out of use” instead of realizing that maybe ATMs shouldn’t be congested in the first place.

I had to consciously override limbic reflexes with my cerebrum.

It’s ok to be a member of the angry mob.

To be fair, you really shouldn't need to use an ATM in most cases where you are.

The only purpose my wallet serves is to carry ID. I don't even carry my debit/credit cards around as I, like most people, just pay contactless on my phone.

When the elections are over and the dust has settled, it might be worth revisiting the cashless conversation.

In Germany, a lot of businesses still prefer cash. Unlike the UK where Cashless and NFC payments are the thing, here I still need cash for certain purchases.

For example, the Vietnamese restaurant i buy my noodles from only accept cash. Same as the Turkish Kebab spot and the Italian pizza place.

I believe these are foreigners trying to dodge tax responsibilities by accepting cash only instead of transactions that go on a ledger.

I don’t face this behaviour as much when I go to my office in Berlin

Yeah na dem be that.

But it doesn't work that way across most of the one or two European countries I've been to, including your side.

I remember trying to buy bottles in a Stockholm nightclub in cash, and rhe manager point blank said hell no. I had to jokingly ask the man how he laundered his cash.

Yeah. Germany is quite funny. Really efficient and top class transport system and while they have access to top technology, they still have this overwhelming fascination with paper.

When i present my work contract, i still need to show the paper original. It’s mind-boggling.

How will cashless work in an environment like Nigeria where the network infrastructure is still very unreliable and majority of the population are uneducated

Some people made transaction and they couldnt get confirmation for hours some days

Imagine paying for liquor and the barman could not get confirmation in his account.

Also illiteracy is a thing, Think of people our grandparents age, how will they use these technology to make transactions. Even people in our parents generation age 60yrs and above some will not use bank apps and prefer to go physically to the bank

In America here, there are many people in the informal sector who would rather get their payment in cash for many reasons which I've shared here before

Some are illegal and do not have a SSN to open a bank account, Some owe the banks a lot of money, Some owe the system(child support), Some want to avoid taxes and govt eyes
It's in govt and banks interest to have more transactions through their system but not always for an individual

I watched a video recently one guy made a point, A transaction of $100, the merchant get charged a fee say 1.5% so sells for $100, he is only able to take into his bank $98.5, He also goes and spend the $98.5 to another merchant and lose another $1.5

By the time the initial $100 goes around 30 places in transaction maybe what will be left is $40. which the banks have cleaned $60 in charges

The Math might not be exact but you get the point

While with cash transaction your $100 note stays the same even after 200 transaction

I think cashless policies should be enforced and give small room for the illiterates and Old… they’ll catch up soon.

In Australia, we do tap to pay and I was guessing it’s because most people don’t know numbers so government made it easy for them 💀

I know how many times I’ve had to help old peeps in supermarkets but overall it’s a way to go for Nigeria.

I haven’t held cash in two years plus until I recently withdrew to go kill goat (they accept only cash) and I haven’t spent the change since because I’m so used to not carrying my wallet

For developing countries like Nigeria that is still building IT capacity and infrastructure, cash has to mutually exist until we have the capacity in systems, including strong institution to support a fully cashless society. Like you, I can’t remember the last time I held cash but I also know it is not tenable in Nigeria when compared. While the US is essentially automated to be cashless, the system still encourages cash usages, especially for small-small businesses.

A primary cashless Nigeria will ultimately improve the economy, however, the country is not there yet but definitely heading in the right direction. Cashless policies are supposed to be gradual in implementation not immediate and consequential, else, the economy will suffer. While the banking sector in Nigeria has seen massive growth, it is still vulnerable as seen since the implementation of this policy.
