I can relate.

Back in the days, I've gone to Escravos from Warri a couple of times and Bayelsa to Brass. The journey is not for the faint hearted. Sometimes you experience waves especially when another boat is coming in the opposite direction.

The probability of rain falling especially during the rainy season is really high. I'm surprised they didn't give you guys a tapolyn to cover your head.
Lool escravos days.
Using massive boats to get to work.
Atleast I only encountered minor security threat once and those navy guys with us helped to handle it.

Fun times😁

I was posted to oporoza close to gbaramatu community after escravos....we spent about an hour on speed boat touring d frightening River on "death jacket".

There was a place we went to, I think benenikrukru.we were told crocodile comes out at wills and in rainy seasons d River would overflow d bank....the experience was fun though cos myself and fellow Corper were hgh on buzz ....

Even in d spirit of highness..I rejected d post and settled for ogbe-ijoh.

Yeah. I can't leave now even if i want. You can only leave through the boats, and they have closed.

When I came, i used the East-West road, entered Kaima and exited at Yenagoa junction

I heard tomorrow is Sanitation, so movement starts by 10am.

I would try my best to leave this creek and get to Nembe before 10

Take a bus to Opollo junction, and take another to Yenagoa (Agofure Motors)..

Tomorrow, i must enter Lagos abeg

Instead of all these memorial and Statue erecting nonsense they should focus on the current slavery going on currently in Muslim and Arab countries.

To think that all these ediots that were chasing voters away and asking them to not come out and vote if they aren't voting for APC are still out here begging for hand outs from the same people they disenfranchised. They are still shouting "Onye isi" and "odogwu" with their hands in the air every where.

I wonder why APC haven't made their lives permanently better, so they can stop this demeaning life of exaggerated hailing of a fellow human.

They are back to square one - jobless on the street

DECOLONIZATION OF AFRICAN NAMES

"Names are marks of cultural identity. One's name identify where one comes from, the language one speaks and who one is. This is why Europeans have European names, Arabs have Arabic names.

Likewise, Africans have African names. Before the invasion of Africa by Europeans and Arabs with Christianity and Islam, Africans named their children with African names. In Africa, names are significant.

Names are not given any how. African names have special meanings. Africans give their children names based on events and circumstances that surround their births.

During slavery, African slaves were forcefully christened European names during baptism into Christianity while Moslem slaves were given Arabic names - names that DO NOT HAVE MEANING to Africans.

This is still being practised among African Christians and Muslims today.

Christianity and Islam were brought to obliterate African culture and one of the means of doing that is to give Africans Christian and Islamic names. Christianity came with European culture while Islam came with Arabic culture.

Religion is an instrument of cultural war. This is why African men and women who get converted to Christianity and Islam are given Christian or Islamic names.

European and Arab names are slave names. They remain the indelible marks of slavery because it was during slavery that Africans were forced to take foreign names.

In 1969, while in Los Angeles to tour and record Koola Lobitos, Fela dropped his given middle name of "Ransome" which he said was a SLAVE NAME, and took the name "Anikulapo" (meaning "he who carries death in his pouch).

A slave name according to Wikipedia is 'the personal name given by others to an enslaved person, or a name inherited from enslaved ancestors.'

In the 1960s Africans in the diaspora in the Americas who were seeking a reconnection to their African cultural roots changed their slave names and took African names.

Similarly, the descendants of Muslim Arab and Christian Europeans living in Africa have Arabic and European names which shows their roots. Our tribal names are our identity.

We must not allow them to be taken away from us. Let's give our children names in our languages in order to preserve our identity. For a man without an identity is like a tortoise 🐢 without a shell"

-- Afrikan Native via FB

Nice argument but you are forgetting an important point which is : Africans are poor and poor people usually don't have the abundance of choice or options when determining their way of life. Yeah, it's very good to have cultural and indigenous names but in a poor continent with limited economic opportunities, individuals must be careful not to take certain steps to sabotage themselves further.

I don't know where you live but I assure you that worldwide having a name easy to pronounce and remember can rapidly elevate a person's career and growth in the most unexpected way. So, as an African in a global economy, do not do yourself the damage of choosing a name that is hard to pronounce and hard to recognise. The opportunities are few, don't limit yourself further. For example, The lead actor in the recent HBO TV series The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal switched his surname to his mother's surname after he migrated to the USA and people began to experience difficulty calling him with his previous surname. Who knows he might not have become a popular actor if he didn't take that smart decision?

Of course, for a person in a country with a rapidly growing and industrialised economy, this might not be necessary as numerous economic opportunities will be readily available in their home country thus limiting the need to go extra mile to position themselves for opportunities.

Be pragmatic in your decision always. Even if you must give your children your cultural/indigenous name, choose the ones that are easily pronounced and recognised.
