Mimiko did great regarding the health sector while he was the governor, if what he did at the state level could only be replicated in the federal level then I'm sure most people wont have to travel outta Nigeria for health related issues.

It has happened already after covid the hospitals got empty.

With financial situation now most cannot afford hospitals and end up with quack chemist and nurses giving them fake medication.

It’s better that the government invest more in health and infrastructure than in subsidy.

You and your colleagues (government) are the reasons, when did you visit Nigeria hospital for your routine medical check up?
All you and your colleagues do is to frustrate education and medical sectors in Nigeria.

Maybe the Babalawos are even better...coz Western medicine sometimes, the more you look, the less you see.

It takes 10 years to produce an original full-blown Babalawo...not someone who inherited his father's book and start calling himself native doctor.

If we develop that sector, it will be beneficial to some ailments defying Western treatment.

Give better packages to doctors and they will stay. You can't expect them to live on peanuts and someone offered something better and they won't go. They have family to feed.

The physiotherapist treating a family member has also japa to CA suddenly...we had to source for another...so, it is real.

They should simply increase the number of medical students so that after some have left the country we will still have enough.

Govt don’t even employ medical students. They don’t even provide them residency. I know this because I know many medical doctors close to me. I know the struggle they Go through finding hospital job and residency. They never found until they Japa

Then admit and train more doctors and medical personnel in the universities! Out of thousands of applications to the various medical schools in the country, our systems routinely under admits and still graduate a smaller fraction of the already small number it admitted. Now there is crisis and they sound surprised.

The naira rate in the forex market is currently FIXED BY LAW by the Federal Government through CBN.

The economy of Nigeria will NEVER be competitively productive until the naira is floated, that is, allowed to find it's own price in a free market. Most people don't know it, but a weaker naira is better for Nigeria. If you float the naira and it goes to say, ₦‎3000/1$, assets in Nigeria will become cheaper and attract buyers from abroad. Healthcare companies will set up in Nigeria because it's cheap and likely to have a high profitability. In a floating system, they can take their profits back to their country anytime they want because forex will be readily available no matter what, basically the black market will become the official market and banks will participate.

The Federal Government should also withdraw from ownership or regulation of Universities and associated hospitals. The Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Health should be abolished. All Federal Universities and Federal Medical Centers should be handed over to States and laws should be promulgated prohibiting ANY government from dictating prices of ANYTHING in Nigeria.

The only major structural problem then will be OWNERSHIP of assets like land. Today if a healthcare company invests and "buys" land in Nigeria and builds a hospital, the current law says they really don't OWN the land and the physical hospital. The Governor of the State can take it at any time. This is a basic problem called INSECURE PROPERTY RIGHTS. So Nigeria also needs to allow for individual property ownership rights, the Land Use Act should be abolished and the government should dedicate itself to PROTECTION of property rights, so investors feel safe.

Nigerians, PLEASE go and familiarize yourselves with modern economic theory and practice. It's now a matter of life and death, a truly existential matter. Sad thing is, President Tinubu is likely to replace the fuel subsidy with agriculture subsidies. Read his inauguration speech, he said he will bring back Agric Commodity Boards that were abolished in 1986. Imagine ALL the problems in the fuel sector now appearing in the agricultural sector. Think about famine, think about food scarcity replacing fuel scarcity. This is a real and present policy risk.

Nigeria can't continue with foolish socialist policies when there are KNOWN solutions to ALL the problems facing the country. The general solution is LESS GOVERNMENT, anytime you hear anyone tell you government will solve a problem, know they're lying. Government is the problem, everywhere in the world.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Floating the Naira is terrible idea.

Have you forgotten, it will continue to depreciate the Naira. Naira may even be exchanged for 10k to one dollar.

The federal government can revaluate the Naira or ensure the Naira doesn't depreciate.

China, Japan, Korea, the Arab block, dont obey or follow the mordern economical polices set up by the West to favor their economy.

Nigeria on the other hand most not play according to the western economical polices.

It's a game of survival, we have to take our destiny in our hands.

Floating of the Naira is what killed the Naira in the 80's. It won't attract any investors, they will find excuses not to come.

Things don't work that way.

Which nation on Earth has tried it and it worked?

That's not true, he's a medical doctor and he did well in that sector during his tenure as governor of ONDO STATE. Health workers in the state realize the difference ever since he left. Likewise education sector.

Those developed nations couldn't even train enough medical personnels for their own use. But they're ever ready to lure highly subsidised Nigerian trained medical personnels away with wages. They made education forbidden for their youth due high tuition fees. Talking of reaping where they did not sow. It's highly unfair to Nigeria and Nigerians.

He was responsible for the establishment of University of Medical sciences during his time as the governor of the state, so he has contributed to a reasonable extent.

Apparently, our problem is not training of doctors rather the problem is how to keep the medics/paramedics motivated and committed to their job.

Politicians and public office holders have been reckless in their leadership roles by looting and enriching themselves with the public resources, collapsing our institutions through their neglect - simply because they are sure of getting medical services and education abroad. In this regard, what has Mimiko done differently?

You dey call Nigeria wia Japan and China dey?

Their own floating is diff..

Secondly they are a huge power House economically and they have great leadership.

Nigeria on the other can't float the Naira, because it will worsen things.

Docs are fleeing at @765 ex rate, what will happen when it gets to 3000k.

Price of everything will sky rocket.

A bag of rice for eg will be 100k, is a bag of rice 100k in China

Cut govt excessive & unnecessary spendings

The amount of money we wasted on administration is too much

Let the government be sincere at all level, award 1bn for a project that truly cost 1bn and not award 10bn for a project that can be done perfectly with 500m naira

We have enough to sustain us in this country if properly managed

We should cut government spending...but, and here is the cold truth...it won't be enough.

Plus, are we going to spend cutting government spending...and spending it all on health? Education, etc...e dey there. Power nko?

Even with that...we still have to pay more...either in taxes or in fees.
