White wasn’t really average per se but he wasn’t what was needed to bring composure to the defense line until the inclusion of Saliba, if you could remember vividly, the media commends Arteta for making good use of him as a RB cause if he was what we really needed, Saliba won’t make Arteta drift him to the RB position.

He is decent no doubt but I think I’ll appreciate Arteta playing him in that RB position cause he is playing well to Arteta instruction in that position.
All these composure in defence you people are attributing to Saliba Is not fair. That team was already on the ascendancy.

This was a team that people thought might relegate (even though it's a bit far fetched) to a team that people finally blamed for not making Top 4.

You think a team that lost 3 straight matches that turned to a team that almost made top 4 (infact blamed for not making Top 4) is lacking composure?

We should not only be thinking Saliba, we should think Partey too.

I am surprised to read many of these posts underrating White...Honestly.

Apart from the 1st 2 matches during his 1st season when the team was yet to stabilize, I cannot remember anyone blaming White for underperforming in any of the matches he played for us till date. C'mon guys, Tomi, White , Gabriel and Tierney brought stability to our defense that season till injuries came calling on many of them.

I mean almost everyone in England blamed Southgate for not using White while parading Harry Maguire, because he is that good.

At the time we got White, only few will even think Saliba can bench him. Saliba improved the season Arteta sent him back on loan, thanks to Henry's advice to him; to use the season to make a case for himself.

If the options is to bench one and use one between Saliba and White, though I will pick Saliba in his current form ahead of White, I am not sure Arteta will and if Arteta pick White ahead of Saliba, I will not worry too much or feel bad...cos White is also very good!

PS: Who were the better defenders at Brighton when we bought White for 50M? Cucurella that was bought for 63M or who?
Simple!!

People will point to Saliba injury that cost us but I'll always say it's Tomi.

If Tomi had been fit, White would have seemlessly slotted with Gab for Rcb and everything would have been settled. In fact, that also robbed us of our "Holding" padlock towards the end of the game.

Mostob go understand wetin I mean

So now it’s now about whether Gary Neville is a good pundit or not ? Omo! I bow for u o.

Go to United thread and ask if Maguire doesn’t play better in England colors than when in United’s . This is even when almost everybody who watches football knows . Maguire started playing badly for England recently .
And did I say otherwise? Na wa o.

If you brought Maguire into this to compare with White, White was better as at that time. However, that doesn't mean Maguire is not decent for England.

You should go to United thread and ask who they would rather have between the two.

You just buttress my point the more. White is not an average defender. If Arteta want to rest Saliba, he would do so without much tension. This is why I think he is benchable when required. Another example is Martinelli. With Trossard, we are covered so Martinelli too is benchable. Now compared this to the like of Gabby, Ramsdale and Saka. That's what I'm trying to say since.
Lol, na your point I dey buttress since na.

Wetin you think say I dey do all these while? undecided

When Partey was injured also, we saw what happened to the team all the team mates all work together for the sake of the team but the bone of contention is between Saliba and White and not anybody else.

So don’t comman turn any Amala here please grin grin

I should show u what exactly ? Somebody told u how crucial Saliba was to whatever we achieved last season by the number of games he was voted man of the match based on his performance but u turned back and say that’s not the only way of judging a player’s contribution .

The thing is u probably believe in subjectivity more than obejevtivity as far as this point of discussion is concerned . U want to rely on “trust me bro” with no data to back ur assertions up .

It will be an exercise in futility trying to make u see things other than the way u are seeing them as far as this matter is concerned . I rest my case

Except you have problem understanding my logic, so saying not winning "player of the match" is not the only way to determine if a player is good or bad means I am "belittling" Saliba and others that won it, even after I have clearly written all over here that I rate Saliba more than White? I only asked you if not winning "player of the match" makes other players that didn't win it not good players also?

I never asked you to trust me or claim that Saliba is overrated, I simply disagree with your belittling of White as a just good/okay player. If you have facts or figures that claim otherwise bring them. Otherwise let's just keep to our different opinions. For me I repeat, I will always prefer Saliba in his current form ahead of White, but should Arteta in any match bench Saliba for White, I will not worry too much. QED.

Now I know where the problem is; u didn’t understand my reference to Maguire .

While trying to prove how good I think white was as CB , I made mention of him being so good that he could’ve benched Maguire in the national team. Then I pointed it out to u that while Maguire was a terrible player for United, he was doing really well for England and even scores at times to cap his good performances . ( This is not even a debate, it’s what everyone knows hence my reference to Gary Neville addressing Maguire’s poor form for United in contrast to his England’s )

Make una no vex, I can't entertain any kain debate that remotely places White side by side with Saliba or compares them. I can entertain a White debate in isolation but anything around Saliba is a no for me because there is no basis for it.

One has excelled in 2 different leagues, ranked top 5 best young players in most lists out there, Ligue 1 young player of the year, multiple Ligue 1 player of the month, voted into EPL team of the season.. What exactly can we say White has achieved to compare to Saliba?

Make una stop abeg. This is why I did not want to engage in this debate.

You see you only try to see it that way cause Nketiah was considered a drop in quality compared to Jesus but he we know Nketiah has eyes for goals and since he’s not the only goal scorer in the team, his team mates goals contributed to the success..

We have goal scorers in our frontline and in the squad, but at the backline, tell me if we have options like we had at the frontline? So you see that a drop in quality from the backline can cost a lot
