Of course... I'm having the time of my life!

Unlike you, I didn't stake it all on a corrupt politician, and I will never stand up to fight his battles for him!

You chose to mortgage your peace of mind on the success of corrupt leaders!

May they succeed! Amen!!! cool grin

What mortgage you talking about! That I am saying the glaring truth?

Same ones paying million for oversees study? Did you see the data about the number of Nigerians that got student visa to UK ONLY?

If Nigerians can pay that much to study across the world, what makes you think they cannot afford high tuition in Nigeria! I am quite aware that it might be hard for some people, but with student loans, such can be achieved.

Our universities are in a sham, most living on old glory and have lost every standard. Like I said, if we want to raise the standard, students must pay their fair share
You're simply ignorant. Majority of those who pay huge fees to study in UK use it as migration format. They're not paying just for the sake of education but to move their families to better climes. They sell off houses, cars and other valuable properties to raise such funds. And when they get there, they work their socks off to continue to be able to afford the fees.

So your comparison is totally off point.

No one who has the means to study abroad will go to Nigerian universities in the first place. At least not the public ones

Yes!

What’s happening in the UK and Canada? Their health sector is almost getting stretched out and glaring it won’t survive next decade except they will have to hike taxes.

If you want to get the best, pay for it. The government will NEVER give you the utmost best.
Nigeria is not UK, neither is Nigeria Canada. Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world.
The minimum wage here if converted to Canadian dollars, it's less than 60 Canadian dollars. The minimum wage is less than 50 US dollars. Yet you want us to pay through our nose like people do over there. Very soon, education will be for the rich alone in Nigeria, you want people earning less than 50 US dollars a month to pay over 600 dollars equivalent as school fees. Health care fees is also there.
Don't let your selfish desires overrule your sense of reasoning.

Okay... Let me square with you since you have taken the polite route!

I have nothing against Subsidy removal! It is not economically viable or sustainable to keep subsidizing everything!

However, before you make citizens learn this hard lesson, what have you put in place??! What cutbacks from your own elite and wealthy end have you instituted??!

How many industries are operating fully and employing massively??!

How many jobs??!

What is even the state of the electricity supply??!

What steps are you taking to remove wasteful spending in running the nation and states??!

You compared America and UK schools and educational costs with Nigeria... Is that a fair comparison in any way?!!... Did those nations start off the way Tinubu is taking off??!

How long do you really think people can put up with this astronomical level of price hikes and ridiculously elevated basic costs of living??!

Questions... Questions... Questions...

A nation that has the highest number of poor people and out-of-school children in the universe shouldn't take such economically draconian steps... You simply lay the grounds for chaos and anarchy!!!

The proposed fees are still not as expensive as tuition in any of those countries you mentioned, so it’s still affordable.

The status quo cannot take us farther than where we are today. If you demand change in that sector, then people must pay for it.

I will repeat again, the government can NEVER fund education. The earlier you realize this, the better.

The guy you quoted has brain issues. They don't know abroad local students pay far far less compared to international students. The govt makes a sector of the economy vibrant to subsidise local students education.
I'm not against the fuel subsidy going, but what has the government done till date with the so called subsidy money they removed in mitigating the effect of the subsidy removal on average Nigerians??
They will still remove the subsidy on every sector with nothing to show forth for it. Very soon, University education will become a luxury most average Nigerians won't be able to afford again. We were complaining that Northerners aren't educated en masse as required, so removing the subsidy on education will motivate them bah??
Even those in the southern part of the country too are not exempted, people will smell shege in this present regime.
I'm already a graduate, so if the government hikes the tuition fees it doesn't affect me directly, but what of the countless average citizens that this will have a negative effect upon??
So going to the hospital will also become an unaffordable luxury to people too, that's what the dude is advocating for. Some people needs brain resetting slap, ajé. 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

If Nigerian universities want to compete, they must be autonomous, and students must pay their fair share

Nigerians are the only class of people who want their country to overtake the US, UK and Canada, but not ready to pay their fair share like citizens of those countries.

Also, Nigerians demand instant change and never ready to make sacrifices for gradual change.
You try, why leave out countries like Germany, Norway, Finland where it's tuition free even for international students? Even the Canada, US you mentioned, are there no cushioning effects already in place?
In a sudden swoop citizens are expected and subjected to sacrifice with respect to fuel pump price, electricity, car ownership, education, professional body etc. These moves as well intended as they are the manner in which it's being carried out is like violently stripping a woman's clothes to sleep with her despite that she has consented to the affair. It leaves her feeling raped!

Even the oil, the government can't say exactly how many barrels it produces for sale daily. The subsidy on oil, the figure is fake because people claim subsidy with false numbers. Corruption is the problem not subsidy and as a government you can't address corruption, you want to make the people suffer for your incompetence.

The future and advancement of a country is dependent on the products it’s churning out. Why do you feel our academic prowess is not reflecting in the economy? Because universities are mass producing half baked graduates.

There is no shortcut to what’s at hand. If you want the universities to perform at utmost best, then tuition fees will have to be raised.

Permit me to ask you? Why do you think Nigerian public universities can never square up with private universities? Could it be that they have access to funds and autonomous?

Now you are asking the right questions. The Elite, wealthy and ruling class are already paying prices and this current administration must ensure they pay a lot more. Loopholes that are being blocked are affecting their revenues big time.

The executive arm of the current administration cannot set the wages of the legislatures. He does not have that authority according to the constitution.

This is the time the pressure groups suppose to mount immense pressure on the legislatures, the state governors, state house of assemblies, local govt chairmen and even the Judiciary.

Our country is not safe so can't attract a high number of international students. .

Please how is a single mother who sells in the market have access to that kind of guarantor?

No matter how you look at it, there must be checks and balances, otherwise the student loans being setup will be ruined.

We do not have credit rating tech here. As we evolve, things will be put in place.

Truthfully speaking, if anyone told you there would be a student loan setup in Nigeria in your lifetime, would you have believed?

Let us be cheerfully optimistic as Nigeria is going in a very different direction right now.
