Hehe see analogy

We aren't importing Pepsi from US so how do you expect the cost to be high for a locally produced drink? Whatever they decide to sell theirs shouldn't determine what we sell ours as long we aren't importing them.

The purchasing power of Naira is weakening because it still revolves around dollar. Your country is largely dependent on imported goods, so how do you expect to buy things easier when your currency is being devalued?

Can you buy imported goods today the same price as last year? Why is that so if not for the rise of dollar.

I hope you wont be updating us on I$E windows again since dolla doesn't influence our everyday transactions here.

Oga, the purchasing price of Naira weakened because of inflation, the floating of the Naira didn’t have much to do with with Naira purchasing power weakening.

I will update you about the the I&E window, because the Naira floating is a policy I’m happy about, you can’t have 2 exchange market and expect economic progress.

Read what you wrote, slowly this time and try to comprehend.

Because your first statement is basically contradicting your second statement.

Are phones, gadgets ban from coming to Nigeria. I/E window is the official rate recognise by CBN. Major importers have access to it.

Dollars affect your purchasing power. Shikenan.

You think the guys importing and selling smartphones in Ikeja got their dollar from the I & E window 😂😂.

The same I & E windows before the floating of the Naira that was averaging $30M transaction for both buying and selling in a day is where people are getting their dollar, you must be joking.

Even big multinational companies like airlines where finding it hard to get dollar from I and E not to talk of small players.

Most Major importers got it at the I&E window. People that can't access it are those import ban list.

What's the I&E window then?
What's the black market then?

What is the I&E window now?
What's the black market now?

Do the mathematics and tell me whether it won't cause inflation.

Nope they don’t.

If you had access to the I & E window like some of us you will know majority of those who were getting it at that price, they were not importers.

Most of those products are ban from accessing the FX. This below is from your link.

"A lot of products, he noted, are banned from accessing FX through the official window, and sadly most of those products are essential to many Nigerians"

Now answer my questions and do your Mathematics and tell me whether it won't cause inflation.

Give me I&E window then and now.

I should give you what you know?

You don’t know the official market rate and the black market rate during Buhari era?

This argument is going in circle, if you have someone in the importation business, especially those car dealers, ask them where they got the dollar they use for importation, they will tell you. It’s not hard

What exactly is your own argument exactly because I don't understand.

If you divide the 1.9tr with the current exchange rate, you will still see an increase in the revenue for this month.
My hard feeling is based on the fact that he believe we don't earn in dollars and so have no biz with cost of goods even in the face of dollar rise

1.9tr is a lot of money in figures but has less purchasing power in reality due to naira's value as well as the effect of fuel hike in today's Nigeria market

1.9 would actually have thesame rating with billions of yesteryears when naira vs dollar was decent n fuel subsidised..........

So what is there to hold d blokos of the govt for when there was no excuse for Jonathan n bubu

Telling Nigerians to exclude the FG from d hardship just because he gave a less valued 1.9tr to the states is nothing less than being CORN-y

Lol. Take it to the bank, FX affect your purchasing power.

Let's leave the I&E window. What's the black market rate now?

How can an importer use the IE when he imports things that were/are still banned.
What use is it to him?

Good morning guys. Just want to put this out here, that I'm hunting for remote/hybrid article, tech, and other content writing roles. What some of us know is that I'm a published author. What we may not know is that I have been creating content for 5 years now in various niches, from medicine, to tech, and the blockchain, etc. I lost access to my old email so I lost most of my portfolio, but I'm willing to provide evidence for anyone who's interested. I have experience with SEO tools and keyword optimisation, and what I don't know how to use, I can learn. Very quickly. Just thought to put this out here. Thank you!!

My stance has always been that fuel subsidy shouldn't have been removed when he did. Nothing is going to change that stance. Let's just hope they use their head to mitigate this disaster.

However, I do support the unification of the exchange rates, anybody that needs dollars should pay the true value for it. Makes no sense for the govt to keep using scarce fx to prop up the value of the naira.
Omo, but this unification dey bite hard for students abroad. I was reading an article about this and many students who left their school fees in Naira can't even afford to pay their tuition fee cos they have to look for double the initial amount they had in account.

However, the unification still isn't exactly going as it should. On the I$E window, it closed at $742 on tuesday, but aboki was still selling at over $800 as at yesterday. How does that support the unification when the actual price on the streets is still different from the official price?

This one has never made sense to me. Why was the government giving out scarce dollar at a reduced rate to pay school fees?

If you must school abroad, go look for the dollar yourself. The money wasted subsidising dollar for them would have been used to put our own universities in a better shape.

The truth is: Prior to this japa wave, schooling abroad was mostly an elitist thing. Most times it's the children of the decision makers that were schooling abroad and their parents who are decision makers in this country allowed the subsidizing dollars for those schooling abroad to remain as long as possible. All Buhari's children schooled abroad (Even when he was doing photo ops using sachet milo to drink tea), Saraki the former senate president schooled abroad, Seyi Tinubu schooled abroad, be it APC or PDP ; most of their kids were schooling abroad.

So they made sure sourcing subsidized dollar continued as long as it made paying their ward's fees abroad easy. That's why they are never bothered when ASUU complain the government is not funding our Universities well enough. It is only now when so many people in the middle class have keyed into it that it's dawning on them that the whole thing is not sutainable any longer

There is an unspoken compact between Nigerian leaders and the people. The leaders agree to subsidize a myriad of products and ventures for the people while the people agree to look away while the leaders siphon the nation's funds.

Why is this thing so difficult?

With the increase in allocation to the states, it means no state should complain again because the increment more than covers the resultant effect of the subsidy removal.

Now, the price of things has doubled in most cases but we have states earning close to x3 their usual monthly allocation so, it means we have to pause to begin to ask our respective State Governors what they are going to be doing with the excess of money given to them. We can not continue asking the FG to do it all if so, they shouldn't increase the state allocation.

I can imagine the Governors smiling to the bank and praying Nigerians don't look their way and continue holding the FG to provide what should normally be provided for by their state governments.

Let the Local and state government put to good use the allocation they are receiving and things will get a lot better.

I laugh each time I hear "let them increase the minimum wage ". Something that will not even scratch the surface.

How many people are civik servants who are bound by the minimum wage? How will increase in minimum wage favour a cleaner of a bank who earns 30k monthly? Do u think the bank will just increase the cleaner's wages to 50k because FG has pegged minimum wage to 50k? grin.

Before u talk about multiplier effect, u need to even consider the total number of people that are in government's employ to those who are either self employed, unemployed, under employed and those employed in private enterprises/companies.

And so u know, most state governments will not pay the new minimum wage and there's nothing the FG will do to them. Jigawa, Ekiti, Eboyin, etc will not pay minimum wage even if states like Lagos, Rivers state etc do. How multiplier effect wan take change anything for the general economy?
Not to mention the fact that minimum wage increment will lead to inflation that will still make live more difficult for those who won't benefit from it.

Whatever it is you are arguing, you are the only one that knows because everyone knows dollars affect the prices of goods especially as we are an import dependent country.

The question I'm asking you is 1.9tr is useless in comparison to what? What figures are you looking at that's making you call 1.9tr useless?

Anyone who did economics in secondary school will know that inflation affects the time value of money. 1 naira in 2012 can never be the same as 1 naira in 2023, likewise $1 in 2012 is not the same value as $1 in 2023.
