Ecowas itself is not going gun blazing at the first instance are they?

Just look at this thread from few pages back and u will see posts suggesting ECOWAS military intervention is what is needed at this time

Exactly.

Don't count ECOWAS chickens before they are hatched.

And NOBODY with sense will advocate for ECOWAS to do nothing.

Just not an armed intervention. We no dey try curtail civil war here.

Ecowas actually have history of success in their intervention whether diplomatic or the brute force way.

Only brute force will make the coupist hand over back to the ousted elected President instantly.

Diplomacy will probably give the coupist like 1 - 3 years to transition back to civilian rule.

So if ECOWAS invade Niger and war breaks out, they wouldn't still flood Nigeria?

ECOWAS is simply following the rule of law.

Someone won a democratically elected election. Let him finish his rule. Simple.

ECOWAS is removing the agbero that wants to usurp power by force.

The guy never even start, e don begin ban

How's this any different from what's happening in Guinea and Mali?

Why must the Niger people hand over Power back NOW?

This is a solid point. USA today was built on great ideas. America got it right before they started practising near true democracy.

They was a time in America that not everyone can even vote. Exams like literacy test was conducted and if you fail, you will not be able to vote.

I will always say this, if democracy is good for America, CCP is good for China also.
My thing is at the end of the day. Even if we say democracy is the best then you should practice what you preach and allow each country choose the style that works for them.

Your response to every country that topples a democracy can't be kicking the door and waving the FoFo

Enter Libya scatter everywhere, scatter Iraq now the entire Sahel and Middle East region is in riot.

Let someone be bold enough to list the sanctions that would make a coupist relinquish back power to a democratically elected government.

And also, would not make millions of Nigeriens flood our country

Maybe u should ask Larride for a list of what was presented to the coupists in Guinea before they agreed to handing over to a democratically elected govt in 2025

I think you are misunderstanding the role and use of US military bases in Africa. The military bases are essentially for emergent evacuations or rescue operations of US citizens around Africa and not for invasion of a country. Remember the hostage rescue operation in 2020 or there about by US special forces?

The US will support any military action by proxy and support of ammunition and intelligence, not physical presence. The same way Russia will support Wagner.

Boss Ragner will have it hard here in Africa where supplies can't easily get to them. Niger itself is landlocked, if all their neighbors close their land and air border to them as Ecowas is suggesting, how is Russia going to send supplies to Wagner group.

If its France now ehn ehn, but Russia that has little to no influence in Africa? I doubt it.

I detest the fact that America will look away when people are groaning under a democratically elected ; then the moment non state actors and coupists listen to the people’s groan; America starts saying “It’s democracy or nothing “

What should America do in such scenario?
Every democracy has a constitutional way of resolving issues and removing leaders

What you are ignoring is that Niger like most African nations are multi ethnic. What do you think the president ethnic people will be doing now that their constitutionally elected president was removed in a coup and replaced by someone from another tribe? This scenario has led to more civil war than anything in Africa think January 1966 Nigeria

Sheikh Oasis na funny guy. grin grin. This like a direct confrontation between Niger and Nigeria and others. War and we must try and avoid that.

grin

War won't happen, but ECOWAS must scare the Coupists to bend the kneels. Do you know entire military personnel of Niger is less down 20,000?

Hisbah Police of Kano can handle them.

Well I can't but see America as meddlesome interloper if they will look away from countries they "mentor" when things do go right under democracy, but they will suddenly find voice the moment democracy is threatened in such countries. It's like, they actually do not care about anything aside democracy.

Damn if they do, damn if they do not. 😂

You know if they interfere in a democratic elected govt administration, they will be known as meddlesome interloper also right?

The right thing to do is to allow the people enjoy those they voted for and if they dont like the person, these same people can go to the poll same way and chose someone else. Leaving the choice to the people is the right thing to do in my opinion.

Hard diplomacy. Economic pressure etc etc

Anything but armed intervention.

Na we go bear the brunt. In more ways than one.

Even the economic pressure when it happens will affect the already impoverished people more and what do you think happens? Economic refugee to a richer southern neighbor

For one, the person that ousted was just democratically elected just a year back.

Negotiations is where modalities will be ironed out but in situations where the coupist are not ready for any negotiations, there won't be any choice than military intervention.

One thing I do agree with is that military intervention will further escalate issue but sometimes its needed.

Like the economic refugees are not already coming in now.

Between war and sanctions which one will produce more economic refugees?

If this coup stands, Nigeria is gone, especially the NW.

I really hope Tinubu listens to the majority here and put sanctions and all the solutions offered here.

But shit must hit the fan, if that coup stands

When you put economic pressure on the newly Coup government, you have just signed an unwritten agreement to let refugees invade your country

The exact same thing we want to avoid.

Hope you know that?

I just posted the same. You know these sanctions won't affect the coupists directly but the poor people who will not just suffer or die in peace but seek opportunities south of the border by hook or by crook

The major issue here is that the coupists have the support of the citizens. Harsh sanctions can turn that tide, and only then can armed intervention be considered.

We can take that risk if we beef up our border security.

But armed conflict, that risk is greater.

I don't know the situation on ground but both sides coupists and unseated president will have their supporters and it depends on the interest the media showing this protect that's what will determine if what you are seeing on TV or reading on media is pro coupist or anti coupist

If he will not relinquish power peacefully, ECOWAS invade that country

Hold them together till 2025

Let Mr Coupist come and contest and win with a landslide (afterall, 99.999% love and adore him)

This is my own solution to the problem.

If you believe in sanctions and diplomacy, you can list yours.

Do you have proof that majority of the citizens support him?

Because I am yet to see that

I mean we in Naija dey fall for this majority of support scam. How many times have people organized random people and given them flags and placards they can't interprete what's written on it

If you watched January 6 riots you can also believe majority of Americans don't support Biden

No matter how bad you are you will get people to come out and carry flags and placards

That's why it is their internal issue and they should be allowed to handle their internal matters. If the people in the country are saying democracy has not favored them why must America force feed them same?

All US cares about is democracy and their interests in West Africa; it's obvious by their body language
