The highest ECOWAS can do is to plead for a shorter time like 1yr or at most 1yr and 6months for him to conduct election and hand over to civilian govt. Or hand over to civilian interim govt. if they can't conduct election within this period.
ECOWAS need to ensure a serious agreement is sign that will be binding, so strong that that junta cannot afford to extent the deadline.

Forcing the junta to hand over immediately will not work.

Within 3 years they would have enriched their entire families and shared everything that generate revenue for the country like Nigeria military people. Hijacking power like this is nothing different from armed robbery at national scale. Though, forcing them to handover power will certainly cost civilians lives but to avoid that ECOWAS AU UN UK US or other U's have no choice but to remain patient and should know that, that 3 years can extend as far as 5 years or more.
