Came across your comment, interesting. Cantonese: They won't. I hate to be cynical, but the fact is, Niger's problems are way beyond a quick three year fix. The people of that country have to make up their mind what government they want, and then things might change. I mean, we've heard the same story over and over again, and it always ends in tears. Niger itself used to have army rule in the past. And nothing changed. The systematic bifurcation of our resources must come to an end. Every country involved in Africa plays their part in the destruction of Afrcan land and resources. That includes the Russians, Saudis, Iranians and especially the Chinese, who pretend to do well. Nigeria is the example of where the Chinese have turned the mining fields into their personal estates. They mine the gold, lithium, etc and make the people less human. i That's because most of us in Africa think that the best way to economic development is selling raw materials and sharing the money 'equitably' . In fairness, when we got independent, most of our leaders inherited nations with majority poor people. People who had been sold the idea of independence based on the fact that they would benefit. And many of them started demanding benefits...plus we needed to rapodly educate our people, and do a host of stuff...so, Africa started selling or continued selling raw materials for money to pay for the benefits. Of course, the money is not sufficent. It never would be because we don't set the prices of our raw materials. If we want to be developed, we got to develop policies that would encourage domestic manufacturing. That means tax breaks, economic free zones , etc. Coups bring uncertainity. I sincerely hope that within the time frame appointed by the Nigerien military leader, the country would have been made much more better than it presently is. Hopefully income from their resources can be used to build better infrastructure and make life better for the citizens. We've most certainly been using income to build African countries since independence. Niger is poor, but it is not as bad as it was in 1960. Again, it is not a 3 year job. Plus it is nice to build infrastructure, but it is another thing to maintain it. (Nigeria built a magnificent highway system in the 1970's. Maintaining it over the years, on the other hand...). Niger is not the only landlocked country in the world. Europe has sixteen landlocked countries. Switzerland which is the most notable name has one of the best economies in the world. With only limestone, sand, clay, gravel and marble as their resources, water is used to fix their hydroelectric power. They have built several dams and taxation has added to made the country one of the most beautiful and sought after in the world. Look at Luxembourg. Look also at the Vatican Switzerland also has a strong industrial base, and heavy duty communications with other European countries. Niger has neither...it is surrounded by poor countries, has desert for the most part. Yes, Niger can become like the Siwiss, but it has to start by building an industrial base to export industrial goods and servicies. Not by selling things to share money as it does...every time. (The Buhari railway that most of us love to blast...could be very useful in this regard. The Swiss have rail connections to all their neighbours, and to the sea., by extension) Coups also mess things up. The Swiss have a strong sense of democracy. Nothing like coups. Yet, Niger has had coups and more coups. . That’s the same way Rawlings made Ghana what it has become today. He swept the political class aside and build the present Ghana appropriately. Nigerians go to Ghana and have some peace of mind. If the military is truly sincere and avoid corruption, they can build and hand over a better nation to a democratically election, corruption free leader. JJ spent 10 years in power as a milltary ruler.(and 8-10 as a civvy). YES...he pulled Ghana out of the severe mess that it was in back in the 1970's. Yes, he wiped out the old army guard...army guard mind you, past army rulers. But Ghana today is not a strong nation. It is broke, it is in line for a loan, nay bailout from the IMF, at IMF conditions, and corruption is still a big issue there. It is just Nigeria with good power supply (because they allow the power sector sell power at a profit). 1 Like 1 Share |

IconicR: Was Tinubu a woman before? He has a peniis. That makes him a man. Was anyone doubting his gender? If they ask you guys who is orchestrating a war with Niger, una go say it is not Tinubu. That it is a collective ECOWAS decision. Now u de mention Tinubu name. Except you don't know, it's been 3 months since Tinubu was sworn in. Up till now, he doesn't have a cabinet. It took Gen. Tchiani just 12 days to appoint a prime minister and a cabinet. Doesn't that show that even Tchiani is more prepared for governance than Tinubu? |

lexy2014:Zombie mentality, anyone arguing with these ipob Obidients is wasting their time, same way they supported Ipob & Nnamdi Kanu, failed project, then they jumped to Judas Peter Gringory Obi & LP, failed project, now they have jumped to coup plotters in Niger Islamic Republic because Bola Tinubu their Master is against the coup another failed project. MEGA4BILLION: There is nothing like sovreignty in the real sense. All nations are interconnected and have to cede some idea of autonomy to the global community. The exceptios are those coubtries who are so powerful that they are essentially uncompellable. Secondly, you are talking about Niger, a country that is totally dependent on the outside world for its survival. Nigeria alone can completley cripple that country economically because not only are they the poorest nation in the world, they are also landlocked. 1 Like 1 Share |

phorget:This is what I followed up. You can have your own narrative and then we will come to a compromise that suits everyone, that is the essence of argument. But as long as you try to give us Obi, we will greatly reject him cow you guys rejected h while he was a governor, so if it wasn't for just selfish interest, nobody will force us to vote Obi that Anambra called the worst governor. Why didn't you sell us the likes of Dave Umahi who we all know is good? you cannot sell us a man like obi, even in 2027, it won't work. |

Immediately Your Master & President spoke against the coup, you jumped on the coup plotters bandwagon for the same Niger Islamic Republic you whined & cried like Bush Babies, because President was giving preference to? Bloody Hypocrites make I rest my case, as long as you have shown solidarity with the coup Plotters, we know it is another failed project. |
