Programmer47: This is posted not for your benefit but for the benefit of those who actually seek knowledge and would like to talk from a position of knowledge and not ignorance or emotion. Indigenes have no claim to the land or any say in the administration of the FCT. It is there in black and white. The only claims indigenes have is claims for compensation. This is the law, if they like they can go to court and embarrass themselves like Obingoos 1. Creation of Federal Capital Territory for Nigeria [4th February, 1976] (1) There is hereby established a capital territory in and for the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be designated as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (hereinafter referred to as the "Federal Capital Territory". (2) The Federal Capital Territory shall consist of the area described in Part II of the First Schedule to this Act. [First Schedule.] (3) The area contained in the Capital Territory shall, as from the commencement of this Act, cease to be a portion of the States concerned and shall henceforth be governed and administered by or under the control of the Government of the Federation to the exclusion of any other person or authority whatsoever and the ownership of the lands comprised in the Federal Capital Territory shall likewise vest absolutely in the Government of the Federation. ……………… 6. Compensation payable (1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any other enactment or by any srule of law, compensation payable in respect of any land comprised in the Federal Capital Territory shall be assessed and computed in accordance with the provisions of this Act. (2) In computing compensation payable under this Act, account shall be taken of any building or crops on the land acquired for the purpose of this Act, so however that any compensation payable shall be as respects‐ (a) land affected by this Act, for an amount equal to the total rent paid by the lessee over the period between the date of the execution of the lease and the date of its determination by the Authority together with interest at the bank rate between the last‐mentioned date and the date of payment of compensation; (b) building on such land, for the amount of the actual cost of construction of the building (less any depreciation) together with interest at the bank rate over the period between the date of acquisition of such building and the date of payment of compensation; (c) crops on such land, for an amount equal to the fair market value of such crops, and the cost mentioned in the foregoing provisions of this subsection shall be such as may be determined by the Authority. (3) Any person who claims any right or interest in any land comprised in the Federal Capital Territory shall submit, in writing, particulars of his claims to the Executive Secretary on or before the expiration of twelve months from the date of commencement of the order made under section 2 of this Act or such longer period as the President may, either generally or in relation to any particular claim or claims, prescribe by notice published in the Federal Gazette. (4) No claim for compensation shall be entertained by the Authority unless a written notice of the claim in accordance with subsection (3) of this section is served on the Authority within the period specified in the said subsection. https://www.placng.org/lawsofnigeria/laws/F6.pdf 2 Likes |

Jogs1900:You don't even get the point! The election tribunal had given a judgement which placed FCT like a state, and so going by the tribunal judgement, if they say FCT holds no special status but is a state like every other state in Nigeria then they should accordingly produce their own governor and three senators and equivalent HOR members like every other state. Now if you say they (FCT residents) should channel this to the legislature for the legislature to make them a state, then you're indirectly saying that FCT isn't a state yet and that the conclusion of the tribunal that FCT is already like a state was wrong. So the entire point here is that, the errors of the tribunal has clearly come up and it is already creating rippling effects and consequences. 1 Like |

WE WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN FOR JUDGES TO FOLLOW, BECAUSE, WE KNOW MAN IS MAD AND CORRUPT. TOMORROW, HE WILL DEVELOP, AMNESIA AND ONLY REMEMBER, WHAT WILL SUPPORT HIS VIEWS. SELECTIVE MEMORY! SO, NO MATTER, WHAT U ALL THINK, AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE CONSTITUTION IS A WRITTEN CONTRACT. IT IS ALL ABOUT, WHAT IS WRITTEN. IF IT IS NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION, IT IS NOT LEGAL. 1 Like |

LesbianBoy:Oga why do you hate the Yoruba like this for God's sake? What have they done to you? You guys voted for Obi your kinsman why majority of them equally voted for Tinubu their kinsman. Beside, some even voted for Obi in the last election. How many Igbos voted for Tinubu for God's sake. Even 2 of your prominent citizens (Gov Soludo of Anambra State & the former Ebonyi State own) acknowledged this.. That desipte the fact that the Igbos didn't vote much for Tinubu, yet he gave SE most prominent Ministerial portfolios. What else do you people still want & desire from the Yoruba nitori Olorun? |

ElSudani: That Abuja original inhabitants were relocated, being the reason Abuja has a unique status from other states, according to the constitution. Since the constitution is now overruled by the court, and is accepted, Minister must vacate his office for their governor and senators and representatives to emerge. 1 Like |

Abrahamweb: I want you to point out where I said the original inhabitants are no longer in Abuja. Original inhabitants of everywhere in Nigeria are in Abuja, that doesn't mean anyone whether indigenous to Abuja or not have any special legal rights over anywhere in the FCT. chymeze: I always say, Nigerian speak English but do not understand English. “Like a state”. If you truly understand English is NOT the same as “is a state”. The act creating the FCT clearly states that the FCT will be administered by the federal government. Please read. I have posted extracts and the link to the full act above. The law that created the FCt states explicitly who is to govern it. 1 Like |

casualobserver: I triggered this one to quote a full epistle. Now, to everyone here , notice how this was a law passed. This was never an agreement or a law that revoked the indigenes status but rather revoked their "right" to claim the land. They are very much still the indigenes of Abuja but under the law, the land belongs to the Government. Note how the compensation is for Crops If for any reason the Capital was to shift to any other state, the Indigenes would reclaim their land just like the Lagosians did. Don't let this quack lawyer mix up the facts. This is why you have the Ona of Abuja who has been pushing for Abuja to be a state since 2022 and something like a council of traditional chiefs. Sometimes, read properly before you start embarrassing yourself. You quickly went to Google thinking you had pulled a fast one? Stupid brainless mob 1 Like |

It has been months since i added my opinion here. On the PEPT Ruling. They ruled that FCT has no special status and her citizens .in addition FCT is just like any other state . As the judge agreed to it and pass her judgment. Now the grey areas are here. 1. FCT will be right to demand governor and legislatures . If they want to enjoy the status of other states , this is justice . You can’t deny the citizen of FCT from the ambition of being a governor or legislature someday and still bite them to be like ordinary state. Note: 25% votes attached to them is to show general acceptance by Nigerian as the seat of power is assume to make up of people from different corners of the country . And politicians like wike have little or no influence to rig or influence the election result of FCT since there is no governor to hold polling units to ransom . 2. If the constitution said 25% of 2/3 of 36 states and 25% in FCT as the requirement . When you divide the fraction , it expressively means : you need to have 25% acceptances in Atleast 24 states of 36 states and 25% in FCT . Note: if you say 2/3 of 37 states , then the interpretation will fail , this is a clear sign that the constitution did not leave any grey area there. 3. For all of you saying Abuja has no indigenous people, are you saying during jamb and other forms you fill, people born in Abuja/indigenous people of Abuja can not fill in the state of their origin as FCT anymore . If FCT/Abuja has always been an option in any form which requires you to fill in state of Origin , is it not pure wickedness if you say no one’s origin is Abuja. 4. Do you not think Abuja indigenous people are marginalized if they can’t contribute to people who govern them or spend resources generating from their land. All FCT ministers are not even mandated to come from their region . If this judgement stands in supremeCourt , then watch another drama unfolding in our political life. Pardon my typo errors . Fix any grammar errors . Thanks 2 Likes |

legitnow1: Here is the law that established Abuja as the FCT. Please read the first schedule carefully with a toned down emotion. "The area contained in the Capital Territory shall, as from the commencement of this Act, cease to be a portion of the States concerned and shall henceforth be governed and administered by or under the control of the Government of the Federation to the exclusion of any other person or authority whatsoever and the ownership of the lands comprised in the Federal Capital Territory shall likewise vest absolutely in the Government of the Federation." 1 Like
