Imagine standing beside one of those buildings looking up and the fence is very close to you. It'll be like the building is gonna fall with no place for you to run to. Omo I no fit o |

Raydos: Every building should not be open to the public. Every high rise must not have a commercial space on the ground floor. Security in Nigeria is not available like it is in the countries you are comparing Nigeria with. We build with an offset from the fence line in Nigeria, whereas in these countries, or the US, your wall is built directly where you property starts from the road, so its easy to have retail space for coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques etc The streets in Nigeria do not have a sidewalk as part of city planning for people to walk in and out easily of the commercial spaces you want. In the US, they have a build design called 5 over 1 where 5 floors of office or residential use is built over 1 commercial or retail floor https://www.dbarchitect.com/how-tos/how-construction-type 7 Likes

None of those fenced high-rise buildings was robbed or destroyed during Endsars. But you see buildings where they allow members of the public enter, those are the buildings that were destroyed. E get why 15 Likes 2 Shares |

Raydos: Nigeria has not attained that level of development, prosperity and security for such to happen. You seek for prosperity and strong law enforcement before asking for window shopping. Due to increasing theft in San Francisco, shops are removing items away and shutting down the concept of window shopping. Then na Nigeria? 7 Likes 1 Share |

Raydos: Those countries are prosperous and homogenous. Prosperous countries that are homogenous either by race or ethnicity or religion tend to be safer than their contemporaries, which are also prosperous but heteregenous. Norway is safer than the UK. Switzerland is safer than France. Homogeneity contributes to safety, but prosperity is the foundation. Apples to oranges. 18 Likes 2 Shares |

Appletek: This was prevalent along Bode Thomas Street in Surulere. Shops abut to the pedestrian walkways got pilfered to the end. OP should focus on economic development before anything else. He mentions CCTV, but the previous administration in the FCT could not account for the over 500 million naira allocated for the purchase and maintenance of CCTVs. 7 Likes |

Fejoku: You're right. By the way, we have the same gates and fences in ex-European colonies of the southern hemisphere like Nigeria and India, because that was how the colonialists built their homes to protect themselves from the masses. When they left, the elite of these nations continued the same pattern and mindset of protection from the masses.. BEFORE colonial rule, we know that houses were built in Nigeria without even front doors, never mind gates. Dutch and Portuguese visitors to 15th century Benin city recorded this in their numerous accounts. The idea of somebody entering your house to steal or rob you was unheard of before the colonial invasions. 9 Likes |

Airlord2030:na people wey houses dey fenced na dem armed robbers dey attack more...A dwarf transparent fence is better than those prision sized fences found in most private residence. Like in ph, there are couple of nice estate layouts bt you cant see the beauty unless you are inside the estate....Imagine most of this estates are not fenced ,it will definitely add color to ph city environs. 2 Likes |

Raydos: Please edit your post and do not mislead the public. That pic 2 is Total Energies and not Eko Hotel towers. Eko Hotel is accessible to the public, so long as you dress well and you look good. You do not need any special code or invite to enter Eko Hotel. What do you expect of an oil company with expatriates and the high level of insecurity in Nigeria. Nigeria is not on the same level with the other countries you are comparing it with. The citizens do not share the same mindset and as such, your idea cannot work right now. Let us first of all work on building positive and beautiful mindsets. 3 Likes |

Raydos: What CCTV? Most of those glasses would be smashed and those mannequins stripped naked. You don’t live in Nigeria I believe. Fencing of all sorts make the streets and neighbourhoods ugly but the reality is that copying what’s obtainable abroad wouldn’t work in the so called affluent areas as you put it. It might’ve worked in the 80s and 90s but things have changed a lot. You’ll be attracting the wrong kind of crowd if you don’t fence in Nigeria. 5 Likes |

Ikaeniyan0: I think it has to do with mentality. Every house in Nigeria is fenced but many banks don't even have fence. So, I don't think it's about security. I think it's about a warped mentality and following a trend. Will that yeye fence stop armed robbers from trespassing? 2 Likes |

Security reasons and nothing more. The police here is ill trained and Ill equipped. Even with the CCTV footage there's nodatabase for cross referencing and not enough manpower for an effective manhunt. The whole process will frustrate you. So to be on the safe side you protect your investment from intruders. 4 Likes |

nigeria is not safe. like in lagos, if dey put those shops there, touts will spring up to collect LASG dues from shop owners and keke dropping people off. The plenty mgbati-mgbati, thuggery, smoking and fighting + eventual robbery and parking dues will defeat the essence of your recommendation. 3 Likes |
