Icon4s:The disallowed goal against Cameroon in Maroc 88 is what I will never forget, that goal should have won us the game but was wrongly disallowed. Also I remember Keshi's free kicks hitting the crossbar maybe once or twice. |

AndSunGorilla: Yes, Henry Nwosu's disallowed goal in that final. As at when that game was played I didn't fully understand the off-side rule and so I didn't understand why people were so annoyed about that call. But I watched that game again just a few years ago and I was just shouting, WHAT!? WHAT!? And i had to call other comrades to come analyse that goal and they all shouted "clean goal"! Nigeria was cheated that year. In 2000 again Ikpeba's penalty goal was ruled out at AFCON Final again against same Cameroon Twice they rubbed us to the trophy 2 Likes |

You make good points but can we also query the kind of coaching our youngsters get that doesn't see them transition from young midfield starlets into midfield generals From the 80s to early 2000s the production line of midfielders was constant Muda Lawal, Henry Nwosu, Etim Esin, Thompson Oliha, Moses Kpakor, Adepoju, JJ, Oliseh, Oruma all these guys at their prime would bench all the midfielders except Mikel, that the SE has produced over 10 years. What do our coaches lack at academy level that they can't produce enough technically gifted and creative midfielders. That said I think the upcoming generation of Eletu, Daga, Ebenezer and maybe Tijani could potentially ease our woes in that department. Nomyth: |

charlesemeka85:James Rodriguez's case is particularly painful. He just couldn't cope with the athleticism and the rush of modern football. He's always lamenting. I feel that this situation is due to the fact that the controlling center of football is Europe. The European mind is scientific. It used to be that the leagues in South America in the 70s and 80s were at par or even stronger than some of the European leagues but today Europe has triumphed. Even Brazil is finding it hard re-inventing itself. They were even talking of hiring an European coach (Ancellotti abi?) If South America were the controlling center of football, I feel the style of football would have been different. |

daveP:This one is fairly recent na. Friendly match between naija and Netherlands as build up to France 98. Them thrash us. We also played friendly with Germany. That Dutch team was brimming with talents all over. Bergkamp's goal against Argentina in the Q/final and Kluivert's header against Brazil in the semi final are some of the most delicious goals ever scored at a WC. 1 Like 1 Share |

elyte89:Yes now, if you look at Man City's team last season they had midfield controllers AM style midfielders or creative MFs like De Bruyne, Silva, Gundogan, Foden but on the flip side Liverpool never really used "AMs" or creative MFs and they got results when they needed to, especially when they won the EPL. Liverpool then had workhorses as midfielders, the likes of Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner, there was nothing creative about those guys. My point is, it's the coaches job to find our strengths and play to it. 2 Likes |

Napoleon55: It depends on what you want to term as excel. If you feel they would skin players like they did in the past, they won't. They will carve out a way to stand out like what the likes of Thiago Alcantara, De Bruyne, Maddison, Bellingham and co are doing. Flair play can't work in this generation. |

Impossible to dead the talks that are relevant to the tactical improvement of our team especially in the middle game. Someone telling you Liverpool won a few titles with just "work horse" midfielders is painting a very limited picture of how Liverpool played. They had a TAA who was the primary source of their creativity. Nigeria can't boast of such in any of our Fullbacks so it is very relevant to focus on what the team truly needs especially with respect to improving how we transit, how we build up sequences and how we get the best out of our attack. elyte89: 4 Likes 2 Shares |

elyte89:Well if we have him, why not try him out so mong as it suits the pattern the coach wants to play. But if he's not on the team or a similar player with his skillset, it's not an excuse.for the coaching crew not to be able to fashion out a decent playing style that plays to our strengths. 2 Likes |

TheSuperNerd: Anyway firmino of liverpool is a false 9. So he was somewhat a play maker for liverpool. U know what if we had play making forwards like firmino cantona messi jao felix kanu etc we might not even need creative midfielders but we dont |
