The lesson from Lebanon happened to Egypt as well

Which is why all their fellow Arab brothers don't want them but want to force them on Israel
Exactly 💯

I am responsible for the defense establishment. I was responsible for it in the last two weeks, even in the difficult incidents, and I am responsible for bringing it to victory in the battle

We will be precise and deadly and we will continue until we complete the mission.

You now see Gaza from afar, soon you will see it from the inside. The order will come.

If it is for only Umahi's white elephant project, this is good news

If it is a total ban, I agree with you

Weve been complaining about the economy and this is one way to grow the economy.

Concrete is cheaper, it has durability of 50 years, will provide employment, more people will go into cement manufacturing and possibly drive down the price. There will also be less demand on the dollar because bitumen is imported.

The headline is a sensational one . I read through the post and all the house did was to put on hold the proposed adoption of concrete roads.

They did that because there’s need to assess the and compare the costs with those of asphalt . Also they need to know if there won’t be liability as a result of breaching existing contract terms with contractors .

I don’t think the house has taken a wrong step here

Yorubas say Aje ke lana, omo ku leni, tani ko mo pe aje to ke lana lo pa omo. .

If you've been following recent development, Umuahi has been saying that there is a gang up against him to sabotage the use of cement for road manufacturing by those who want to maintain status quo.

He said they've been holding countless meetings and even tried to submit outrageous quotation to discourage him but he caught them.

All of a sudden, the same members of the parliament who have no problem sharing 2023 vehicles now want to consider the demerits and merits of using concrete cement.

Brilliant coincidence if you ask me.

One way to grow the economy is by doing roads, or doing concrete roads?

If it is road, you are right.

Let more people go into Bitumen. We have enough in Cement manufacturing. Nigeria has untapped Bitumen wasting away, and yet we are importing.

From Ologbo to Ughelli, people are spending more than 5 hours there because of bad roads

No single construction equipment on site.

Lagos to PH is almost one day journey. Leave 6am, arrive 12 midnight

Umahi leave that one dey draw fresh concrete road for Abuja.

Nonsense

It's to blackmail us.

Expect the media hirelings to keep referencing it anytime we complain about recycled old people being appointed.

Concrete IS NOT CHEAPER. I saw when they were rebuilding apapa oshodi expressway. All concrete roads have reinforcement. A LOT of reinforcement. And we do not fabricate steel in Nigeria. Some people will get very very rich off concrete roads.

A concrete road definitely costs more per km than a bitumen road.

The same way u are making case for Umahi that there’s a gang up against him cos he has interest of the country at heart by building concrete roads; it’s the same way others can make a case that Umahi is only proposing a white elephant project like the airport he built in Eboyin where flights have not been landing for months .

Me I’m not for or against Umahi . All I’m saying is the reps thus far have not erred by temporarily suspending hasty adoption of concrete roads .

Let the Unahi’s proposal be critically scrutinized ; let him provide justification to the house as to the benefits inherent in adopting his proposal . Now let the house also compare it to that of Bitumen roads . Simple !

If Nigeria was not broke concrete roads would be fine.if we did not need immediate intervention in road construction and repairs, concrete roads will be fine.

To build concrete pavement in a station you first have to compact. Do blinding, lay hard core (or not) set form work, lay reinforcement. Then pour concrete in alternating bays. Then wait 10 days or more for it to cure. Timeline 4 to 6 weeks

Paving stones, lay your stone dust bedding, compact it and you can lay the entire driveway in two days. Time line 1 week

Asphalt, (we don't do that here) get your sand bed, compact and pour your bitumen. Then roll it and you're done. Time line 1 week

This is simply not the time for concrete roads. Though they are much better for heavy duty where trucks are concerned

Longer timeline, longer QA, more materials required, more work items required, more cost. Better in the long run but we may not make it to the short run right now.

You are looking at it wrongly. What you should consider is their lifecycle. If I spend 15k on an extension box that last 10 years, I have spent less money compared to someone who buys an extension box that lasts less than one year but costs 2k.

The lifecycle of concrete road is 50 years while bitumen is 15 years. We know that in Nigeria, it lasts a lot less. Ore Benin road was done sometime around 2009-2011. Go and look at some sections of that road today.

What of Warri-Mbiama Road? The less said the better.
