The country Nigeria has a lot of potential actually, a lot of politicians with Billions in swiss accounts, but they cannot help their own people, partly because most of us don't know what's going on, and also because they are following some cult like Agendas. For example some people believe a democratically elected president can change the country! The British realize that colonialism has a weak spot - the people can still see their enemies, so they replace it with "our own people" but their own friends and loyalists and they call it DemoCRAZY (demonstration for crazy people). Therefore will can no longer "see" our enemies, those that are really calling the shots and making the policies and trends that favour them through sophisticated manipulations, one of this trend is the JAPA syndrome!

While your post is true and good, it does not mean new jobs are created. Rather, companies are simply re-filling those positions with newer folks, not creating new positions. The number of graduate trainee positions/adverts has plunged compared to 2010 - 2014. A good way of assessing the Nigerian economy is when dual citizens move en mass to Nigeria, as it happened during 2000 - 2010/2012. For dual citizens to move to Nigeria, it means the economy is doing well, and Obasanjo's years were Nigeria's golden years in terms of the economy.

Considering the current state of Nigeria economy

Any salary below 500k is seen as poor to me

Even if you get up to 6 digits a month
You still going to suffer

Reason why I opt out of monthly pay
Good with multiple source of income now
And getting daily pay.

Then your expenses are very high, or you have many dependents. There are many reasons why you consider less than 500K salary poor. Mind you, that salary is only permissible in Lagos and maybe Abuja. In Port-harcourt and, say, Uyo or Warri, na oil industry fit pay that amount effortlessly. Bankers are only the professionals who can get paid such as workers across most industries. To earn that amount outside banking and Lagos & Abuja, one has to sell his or her services to a global audience.

With the rate at which Nigerians are leaving Nigeria, you will think with N50k you can japa from that country. Every Tom, Dick and Harry have left, the remaining ones are just waiting to buy their flight ticket.

I doubt if we still have up to 1 million people left in Nigeria at this time. So where is that multidimensional poverty statistics coming from? If almost everybody can afford the cost of Japa that doesn't come cheap. This makes me to come to the conclusion that, Nigerians might not have money in their bank account, but majority have tangible assets that can be easily converted to cash if the need arises.

Satire. For those wey go school

I sold my house and everything to Japa and I am not regretting it. Thanks to my wife that have good foresight. I know how much I pay on school fees alone in Nigeria while here school is free for my kids, I only pay for food Β£12 per week.

While in Nigeria before the month end like this, I am already looking for who to borrow money from to fuel car to go to work.

Within 6 months I know how much I don safe here in the UK despite working part time oo because of the kids, If I wan build another house for Nigeria I can do it but I won't.

For you to know how terrible things are in Nigeria, if I tell my 5 years old daughter that we are going back to Nigeria. She will start begging me that daddy no oo am not going I like it here.

Honestly, Nigeria has been damaged beyond reparation.

Though migration is part of human existence, however, the question we should ask ourselves is if 9ja is good to live in, why are many people travelling out?

Why don't we have Americans, British, begging for our visa ?
Re: With The Current Rate Of Japa, Is Poverty Rate Exaggerated In Nigeria? by Fab21: 8:56am On Nov 27, 2023
How many Nigerians can afford basic needs?

Clothing, Food, Shelter?

Honestly, if you travel out, you'll see success/achievements in different perspectives.

What we call success/achievements here are basic needs over there.
As human, is it not your basic needs to have a comfortable house, have a car, foods?

But the system/structure of this country has made it so difficult that we now see basic needs as achievements.

We go to church for testimony that we have food, cars, shelter.

The country is so hard to the extent that people pray to get food, jobs, and other basic needs?

Why won't we be religious when the govt made the basic needs so difficult to get.

Of course, success isn't determine by location..

However, let the Govt do the needful thing and we as a citizens should start taking responsibility and not blame the Govt for everything that might even be out fault.

It's just a crazy world that we've found ourselves.

When you talk about visa.. You talking about fees for processing your stuff and health charges.

Visa application is 480 or 500 dollars and health charges is 980 or so dollars. Let's say 1500 dollars. This is for UK.

You must have genuine reason for coming. Either as skill worker or through school which is easiest or through tourist visa etc.

You can look for companies employing for roles that are open to foreigners due to shortage of workers... E.g Tech, health sector etc. This area is cheap and I will recommend it because the company is your sponsor.

For school.. Your school is your sponsorship.... But you will apply and pay certain fee from 3500 to 8000 pounds before they issue you documents to process your visa... You will have money in ur account to that covers your entire fee plus living expenses.. If school fee is 15,000 pounds, living expenses is 10,000 pounds.

Note coming on visiting or tourist... You can't work.. See no one can employ u.. Its crime here. No one will rent property to you.. They have codes you will receive from government that shows ur information.. They request it from u to rent a home or work or anything. Getting job through this visiting or tourist is 99.9999 not possible as technology rules here.

One major problem in Nigerian is the Herd Mentality syndrome.

Once you start up any trend in Nigeria that promises to bring in fortune. The rest of the population will blindly and quickly jump on it without applying due diligence. Check Pos business, Content creation, MMM etc other African countries don't behave this way.

Those that will lose on this trend are the ones who have something meaningful doing in Nigeria and those who sold solid properties to Japa.

Hardship is everywhere, it's only dvmb people that doesn't know this.

I'm glad you use the words 'if' and 'almost' that means you're even certain of the numbers of people leaving and their financial conditions too.

Last I check, statistics don't reveal everything, there are communities and inner cities in this wonderful country that poverty walks majestically around their corners and people there don't understand what it means to japa but the media will find a way of blowing things out of proportion just to drive their own narrative...

Baba, I've stayed on Makoko murky waters, baptized, wine and dine there, celebrated my little wins there before a man left the waters for land and guess what it's not funny when some bunch of gutter influenced statisticians come up to shove lies down our throats, it doesn't make sense.
