It’s time that the FG begin to collect taxes from Nigerian medical doctors working abroad.

Before you quote me ignorantly, the USA and most other countries do the same.

FG spends billions subsidizing your university education if you don’t know.
Ask yourself how do you give back to the society?

We are very ungrateful and unpatriotic in Nigeria.
Ya mother is useless. Instead of going after the politicians stealing money you want to attack doctors making money they earned. God punish you mumu. Continue to support evil and corrupt politicians then wonder why you life is horrible. Tufiakwa!

Colonial masters pay much better and treat doctors with much more respect then the so called “Africans”

As a Nigerian practicing healthcare in America I encourage all medical personnel to japa as soon as possible!! Life in America as a doctor or nurse is very sweet ohh!

What nonsense trash talk is this? Bringing tribal trash talk into a topic of monumental importance affecting the medical sector.
It this kind of self glorification that causes both the north and south west to look down on the ibo tribe. Even the south south tribes are also looking down on u people. Better change this stupid mentality.

Just know there will never be a doctor shortage in Igbo land. Continue to disrespect ibos, and you will suffer

That's why the current US regulations won't recognize Nigerian trained Doctors it's tailored for the Accredited zones from 2024 no Nigerian University fall under it .......
You can't be studying Tropical Medicine trying to Practice in the Temperate ....
They would still be regulations at some point ...
If you want to practice in the cold region you have to study the diseases, Genetical misnomer that is prevalent there..
You can't be studying Sickle cell and expect to treat people with Tay-Sachs Syndrome ...

You’re very wrong. Shut up ignoramous. Nigerians and ignorance are like 5 and 6

JAPAJANTIS affects everybody, even the political looters. The more money Nigerians make, the more they spend on foreign tastes. Provide local incentives like industrial estates, housing, schools and recreation areas like the old Western Nigeria.

Every worker compare their salaries to foreign workers as if the economy and training are the same as in Nigeria. We know it is not. What they spend in a month in Europe and America is what we spend in a year in Nigeria.

We can never solve the problem of Japajantis doctors just like other professionals that japa until we start training professionals for Nigerian needs and problems.

Can you imagine a Chinese doctor without Acupuncture training or Indian doctor without Ayurveda training? Ask a Nigerian doctor about traditional African Medicine, he would look at you as if you are crazy.

Profs. Olikoye Kuti, Lambo and Abimbola tried all they could, they were derided as Babalawo.

If you want solution, start training doctors for African needs, more Community Health Officers (Physician Assistants), better recruitment of children of Babalawo into Medical school.

The doctors we have today are trained to pass foreign exams before their final year. Even when they spend time passing local board exams and looking for internships abroad, their families suffer from proud Nigerian doctors that look down on Gburu. While their children sought public welfare to survive.

DECLAN2015,

Thank you for this impute. Most people think good doctors come out fresh like pastries from the oven.

Lucky for you, witch doctors and herbalists aren’t wanted outside of Nigeria so you and your family will be ok.

So because others are ungrateful, doctors are therefore justified to be ungrateful too?

You need to understand that the job of being a doctor is innately humanitarian, so doctors are expected to have a better sense of compassion than others!

Shut up. If you don’t mind when your local Governor steals resources for his house in Europe, don’t bother doctors that want to japa to a country that respects their training and talents

O ti late already. The gravity of this problem is now staring them in the face. A country where leaders go for health tourism abroad but thinks the dilapidated healthcare system back home will encourage or motivate health care workers to stay back.

Undergraduate medical students are already preparing for foreign exams in their final year. Once they are done with internship, they are off. Some don't even do NYSC again before moving.

Nigeria indeed is lacking medical personnel and the fear of the brain drain JAPA is the beginning of sound brain functioning now.
I think the country is not lacking medical personnel. It is rather losing its medical personnel to other nations that value them more

Most Africans(Nigerians) are innately stubborn people. The only reason they are taking this route is not because they are stupid but the leaders are irrationally greedy.

They are well aware of what needs to be done but refuse to do it mainly because they want to show who's superior because nothing (except themselves) stops them from fixing doctors and nurses renumeration and improve the working conditions.

It's almost as if they feel threatened by the fact that a citizen might earn well and thereby live well.

better than having no doctors behind and non away bringing in forex.

1. There would still be no doctors left behind. From the day they get admission into MBBS, they're already planning to japa.
2. Who will train them in the universities and hospitals when the best lecturers and consultants too are planning to japa?

Keep taking only Ibuprofen for typhoid fever - you drive down the pains and headaches. But sooner or later, it will aggravate intestinal bleeding and leave you worse off. Or dead!
Don't you see it? Our politicians focus on the symptoms and not the cure.

The lanky disaster called bubu should carry a substantial part of the whole blame for low doctor/medical professional turn out.
When alarm was raised about locust plague sweeping in for east/north africa around 2021, he quickly acted because his beloved north was involved. This brain drain should have been remedied by increasing faculty capacities and medical professional pay among others.
Our leaders feel untouchable and so plunder as they like.

Senseless government. Urging universities to admit students more than what the capacity can hold.
If they like make each university produces 500 grad per year. If there's still no facility to work with couples with poor remuneration. They'll all japa.
