E go hard oh!

When was it banned?

You ban something same day you are implementing the ban.

Do you know traders have such goods worth hundreds of millions of naira in their possesion? They should burn their goods abi?

The best solution is to work with the manufacturing companies so they can switch to producing paper takeaway packs.
The enduser is not your problem.

Wow. I am impressed.

Good development. In fact a ban on "nylon bags" should follow ASAP.

What irritates me is the ignorance of so called educated Nigerians and some Nairalanders who happens to be among the dumbest set of people on the planet.

Styrofoam and plastic/nylon bags have nothing to do with global warming.
I see people mixing up soil and water pollution with the scam called "global warming". They are not the same.

Global warming is an illusion created and promoted by a group of billionaires to gain more power and control over society.

What we should be concerned about as environmentalists is land, soil, air and water pollution, not "Global warming" which does not exist.

Whoa! This is another angle. Can you shre me some materials or links to this assertion of yours saying: "Global warming is an illusion created and promoted by a group of billionaires to gain more power and control over society". How true is this your assertion?🤔

Anyone who is observant enough would see first hand the havoc these styrofoam packs cause to our drainages...but they don't just develop legs and walk to these drains, they're used and disposed by people. And until we develop a comprehensive waste management approach to deal with stuff like these, you can ban styrofoam today and something else will just take its place tomorrow.

Same issues are also posed by plastics used to package soft drinks, are we going to ban those too??
Nigerians are dirty by default.
Wetin I saw yesterday made me mad.
After Saturday cleanup in Enugu, everywhere looked immaculate.. just barely 1 hour after market opened, it was as if the cleanup was just an exercise in futility.
Plastic wraps flying left and right

True talk. How can you ban something and implement the ban same day? You want to solve a problem and create another one. The companies producing them who have raw materials worth millions in their factories, what happens to that? You want them to suddenly collapse their business in one day? Small time, people will start talking about foreign investment. Does investment come from the air and not from companies who are producing goods and services?

Secondly, the different distributors and wholesalers who have goods worth millions in stock already, what happens to them? They should burn their stock?

We are not saying Styrofoam should not be banned. But before you place ban, have you engaged the producers to find out how they can diversify and produce something else so they don't go bankrupt?

Those who have the goods already, what's your plan for them? Are you going to offtake their goods and pay them so Government takes responsibility for the loss?

Until some of these issues are cleared just placing arbitrary ban on Styrofoam use without consideration for those who find their livelihood from that value chain, means we are simply being wicked. And we will be creating a new set of unemployment problems because we want to solve climate issue problem.

There was a time this Styrofoam takeaway were not in Nigeria, we were surviving then. We buy mama puts, went to occasions and parties, so this ban is a good step forward.

Thank you.
Re: Styrofoam: Abia Government Bans "Take-away" Foils by Laple0541(m): 1:19pm On Jan 28
Stupid people, they ban until investigations are properly done on the danger of the product!

Why can’t you do your investigation first and give people a reasonable facts behind banning the product? Now your premature ban will make hundreds or thousands, if not millions of people jobless.

Although we need to educate people on waste management because it was people who dispose it there
Some of my friends were laughing at me when I told them that I don't throw off my waste after using it until I get home

Right inside my bag, you will find sachet water nylon and pet water bottle. I won't forget Rev Sis Beatrice of Holy child catholic secondary school Ado Ekiti, who said we should always keep sachet water nylon inside our pockets and dispose it when we get home. That singular instruction still rings bell till now

Exactly. You just aired my mind. Our politicians are very quick to issue unrealistic bans. At the end the ban won't even be very effective because the root cause hasn't been addressed.

The day I was at high sea was the day I knew the enormity of the problems associated with these "take away" foams.

It was an eyesore. Every square inch of the sea was under attack by this enemy of the environment. Most countries have gone paper instead of plastic.

If you ban it's use as take-away pack, you should also ban it's use in packaging/padding brand new electronics inside cartons.
