Be patient. PDP had 16 years. It was PDP that started defending the naira. It was during PDP that subsidy billionaires emerged. It was during PDP that kidnapping and terrorism started. It was during PDP that people like Atiku stole national assets for personal use. It was during PDP that refineries collapsed completely. It was during PDP that many who are making noise on nairaland today were born.

Those of us who witnessed military rule and PDP knew that the practice that started with PDP was going to lead us to doomsday.

I sincerely pray Bola Tinubu will continue to find the will to do the right thing.

No, their resignation will not confer presidential legitimacy on those who lost the election. They have no solutions. The solutions Atiku mouths reeks of blatant ignorance and lack of intelligence.

If Atiku stole national assets as you alleged, is it not foolish for APC not to have prosecuted him successfully since 2015, and for Obasanjo to have failed to prosecute him in his second term?

PDP is a private business friendly capitalist party that sold refineries before feudal Yar’Adua reversed it to please uniformed labour unions and socialists for credibility after the Iwuruwuru INEC elections that made him president. Yes.

For many years, we have been living in a bubble. We subsidized the consumption by the rich. Our refineries have not been producing. There was pervasive insecurity. Oil theft was rife. Chinese were stealing from us. We started handing out dollars to people for reasons that don't make sense. The subsidy was consistently being abused by people who claimed it and still took the products across the borders. Local fuel consumption was inflated. There were no investments in critical infrastructure. Questionable billionaires emerged following the start of the 4th republic. The bought banks and no one knows the source of their incomes. Industries completely collapsed and religion became rife.

Infact, we started borrowing to pay salaries and subsidies. People like Professor Usman Yusuf in NHIS used their positions to rob the nation. Today, they are sudden moralists for a better Nigeria.

What Tinubu is doing is an attempt to refocus things so that the pains will not be even more in the future. Tinubu demonstrates the boldness many before him lacked. We can see some improvements in certain areas. For example, after the kidnap of the Nabeeha family and the killing of Nabeeha herself, we can see how Wike and Co swung into action and have arrested the masterminds. Our military chiefs are not talking too much and are doing the job.

I recall when they started partitioning roads in Lagos for BRT. As soon as the buses were rolled out, no one criticized Tinubu again. So the suffering we are currently facing are pains that will pass.

We only call on Tinubu to go after the sponsors of terrorism, banditry and rogue businessmen inflating prices. We also call on governors to show workings. It is evil for PDP governors to be attacking the president when they should be worried and working harder for their people.

As a people, let us put the same pressure on the governors, representatives and senators as we put on the president.

If the elections hold again, I'd still throw my weight behind Tinubu. Atiku had his time, and he had nothing to show for it beyond plundering national assets to cronies. He is one of the architects of the current mess and should take responsibility. He also lacks understanding of presidential processes. Peter Obi is just a revolt against the status quo and people conveniently forgot he was a governor as well and Anambra did not improve.

Any sincere Nigerian would make suggestions to help the nation.

My question here is that is it not the same APC party that had Buhari as president. During the time of Buhari we were told to be patient after they spent the first 4 years blaming the Jonathan administration for everything. We are suppose to be consolidating on the gains, if there was any, of the past administration of the same party, and not for a worsening situation like we are having at the moment.

Whoever became president of Nigeria these problems would have manifested. Of the 3, Tinubu was and remains the most capable of solving the problem, if he can’t none of the 3 can…certainly not Peter Obi. My problem is that he seems to be back tracking on subsidy. The medicine needs to be swallowed. People need to change their habits, a poor man has no business driving a 5 liter SUV, poor Nigerians have no business, eating bread made with imported flour, eat akara and ogi like our fathers made with local farmed ingredients, poor people have no business using imported hair, poor people have no business consuming staples that are imported. My problem is that unless we feel the pain we will not change and I am beginning to worry that Tinubu is backtracking because of the pain….the pain needs to be felt for people to change their habits.

Tinubu did not create this problem, Buhari and jonathan did.

Whoever became president, Nigeria would have fallen and Petrol prices would have gone up resulting in inflation..it was unavoidable. All 3 candidates said they would remove subsidy and float the Naira. We were borrowing to subsidize petrol, we borrowed so much that the oil we produce in future has already been sold. The Chinese had stopped lending us money years ago. There is no money. If Obi or Atiku tells you today they would have removed sibsidy gradually, ask them where would they have gotten the money to continue the subsidy?

We cannot continue with our penchant for imported goods….this is exactly what Peter obi has been preaching that we need to move from consumption to production. This is how moving from consumption to production looks like, you have to make imported goods so expensive that we are forced to look inwards. When did bread become part of the diet of a poor Nigerian? If you must eat bread produce your flour locally!,,

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. The job of a good leader is to take the right decisions and stick to it. He said he asked for the job, now he has got the job, he needs to see it to the end. There will be pain, there will be suffering but thre has been pain and suffering since 1984 and it lingered because we did not sustain the reforms. Tinubu needs to sustain the reforms even if it costs him his second term, it is the only way Nigeria can move forward. Again I repeat we need to change our habits and the only way people change is through pain.

The hardship and inflation in the country now is hardly any consolation for anybody or group of persons loss in the last general elections. Trust me whatever is happening now will not have any impact on how people vote in 2027. So if anyone thinks they can capitalise on this to win next election and bring their own version of misgovernance grin they are mistaken.

Where is Tinubu getting money to pay for subsidy now?

Devaluation of the Naira which means more Naira revenue. Also the removal of subsidy has reduced the amount of petrol consumed. Petrol needs to revert to market price of approx N1200 because smuggling will resume and we will be back to square 1. That is why I say I am not happy with him that he seems to have backtracked and has introduced subsidy through the back door.

petrol 700 naira

Get educated guy.

Nigeria cannot sell petrol below the international benchmark price. Nigeria will need to subsidise heavily.

Even as at now at 700 naira, Nigeria is stll subsidising. Imagine the amount of naira that Nigeria will be subsidising if petrol is still being sold at 180 naira. Right price without subsidy for now is 1500 per liter. Do the maths. The equivalent amount (even more in some instances) in dollars is what is being paid in the western nations that you always rush to quote. Nigeria will just ka-boom if we continue paying subsidy!

You expect your refineries to be modernised, productive, to produce high throougput, to be well run and efficient, yet you are asking Nigeria to sell below the international price.

Tell me how Nigeria wont have a budget deficit, tell me why smugglers wont be encouraged to cross border to sell at high cost.

Do you guys really understand the implications of most things you are always asking for?

I met one guy, who claimed to be educated and was saying during the regime of Yaradua, price of petrol was below 70 naira, that Nigeria should be able to sell petrol at under 100 naira being an oil producing country. I just laughed at his ignorance.

Atiku’s solutions are alternatives from the capitalist perspective to the wobble and fumble socialist agenda of Tinubu.

I did not allege it. That is an accusation that has been in the public domain for years. Atiku himself admitted to Kadaria Ahmed that he'd make his friends rich because they deserve to be rich. See links below:

https://guardian.ng/news/atiku-vows-to-enrich-friends-if-elected-president/

https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/01/18/video-watch-as-atiku-promises-to-enrich-all-his-friends/

https://www.channelstv.com/2019/01/16/im-not-going-to-enrich-members-of-my-family-but-my-friends-atiku/

Obasanjo and El Rufai adduced to Atiku's corruption in their books. Atiku never denied or made anti-corruption pretences. Obasanjo couldn't have prosecuted Atiku as Atiku had immunity. Remember that Obasanjo illegally declared Atiku's seat vacant in 2006. Tinubu gave Atiku succour.

Also recall that there are several allegations against Atiku in the US pertaining to him using his ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas, to launder money through the US real estate market. Atiku's dealings with a former US senator sent the senator to jail.

As for the sale of national assets, PDP messed it up. It was seen as a bazaar. Atiku was Chairman of National Privatization Council.

With Atiku's antecedents and posturing, it is hard to trust him with the national assets and national treasury.

It is one thing to be corrupt, it is completely insane to be proud of it.

Of course, Tinubu will have my vote in the next election.

Only a mad man does things same way and expects different results.

Nigeria was tilting towards doom before Tinubu came to power. Paying for subsidy with borrowed funds. Who does that,?

Now we have seen that our supposedly "wealthy" nation is actually poor. We have seen that we can't even feed ourselves. We have seen that the country is not generating enough dollars to meet the huge daily demands. We have seen our vanities.

All hands need to be on deck. The governors of each state collecting fat monthly allocation while doing nothing should be dragged. Afterall, the governors know you will blame the presidency for their own inefficiencies.

If you are abroad, and you think you are immune, you are deceiving yourselves. You send money home to either keep in the bank or use to buy materials - you will end up buying expensive materials or your money loses value inside your banks account. You must join in this war as well.

It is now our battle against the elites who keeps stealing our funds. Agriculture needs to be made appealing to our youths. All tier of govt should create environment for industries to thrive. Our insatiable appetite for foreign goods must stop. All tiers of government must enact a policy to stop converting lands meant for agriculture into a real estate!!.

Without all these, no human on earth can lead Nigeria to greatness. Don't be deceived!. Tinubu is a president and not a magician.
But you guys claimed to see all this under Buhari and you're seeing it all over again under Tinubu.
Are you guys seers or what?
Besides, I don't know where you guys get the idea that Tinubu is about to fight corruption or clean the mess as you guys used to claim under Buhari.
