Hello,

Please are there any downsides to having a distant relative in the US (Uncle) as a sponsor?
And when asked about sponsorship during the interview, must it be the sponsor that was used to obtain the i-20 that has to be mentioned or could you mention another instead (mother) provided there is a valid and adequate statement of account.
The reason why the Uncle's account was used is because the school requested for the bank statement (Mother) from Nigeria to be sent directly from the bank which was proving difficult to get. But they had no problem with the US Bank statement for the uncle

Thank you for your time.

Hey 🀠

1. There is no downside in having a distance relative who resides in America as a sponsor . But if the sponsor is doing illegal stuffs in the USA or if his entry history (they will do background checks on him) is bad it may affect your application.

2. Consulars are now logical about financial statements. They understand the trick that someone might just release a financial statement for the sake of admissions and visa and not actually capable to fund you. Hence, they reason What would be this person /entity's gain to be ready to spend multi-millions on your academic abroad just like that ?

3. Naturally, USA institutions with SEVP APPROVED works in tandem with USA embassies and hence , your host-institutions communicates (with USA embassy) lot of infos which you may not understand till tomorrow inside your Form I-20. * Therefore, always take the original version of the statement you sent to your school to the embassy.

4. Your explanation of your uncle , mother and the USA bank statement is hard to believe and i want to think that its your delibrate decision to use USA bank statement. School transcripts is what your Host-University can ask to be sent directly, they cannot ask you to ask a bank to send your statement directly to them.... i may be wrong though.

5. Don't let us argue about number 4 above and the way forward is to follow what your Form I-20 says (your uncle is your sponsor). It is always dangerous to draw the attention of the USA consulars to conflicting items.

1. I dont think its STEM MBA, its just that 6,500 I have to pay as tuition deposit that I'm thinking about, if not Webster is like perfect for everything.

2. Sorry to bother you, I think we mean different things, I'm talking about the people that'll put the money in your account and charge you an interest rate for putting the money in your acct, usually around 3%. I think thy put a lien on it, so u cant withdraw, so I'd be the one to get bank statement from my bank myself (isn't that how it works). That's what I'm talking about. Is that also what you're talking about?

3. Please what is "support affidavit ways"

Hey 🀠

1. You can still go with the college (MBA) but you have to align your works and career as well as future goals on business path, after all, many Chinese , Indians and Asian students attends American colleges just to study English as a Second Language ESL.

2. I understand your explanation and number 2 question but that avenue is illegal and dangerous to your application, that's not what i wrote about. Support Affidafit is usually ratified by the court of law .

Your best bet is actually Optima hotel. I think it’s the only hotel that is very very close to the embassy. Google search it.

Hey 🀠

1. Don't accept the University 's loan offer or any other loan as your sources of funds. * It will birth one enemy of F1-VISA which is " pressure to stay behind in USA after graduation in order to offset your loan. OR the likelihood of dropping out of school and face the illegal-work force in America.

2. Look out for a sponsor ie a family member or friend or other 3rd party entity who can provide their financial statement to you along with afidafit of support (in your deficit equivalent) to tender at the USA embassy and also send copy to the school so that your Form I-20 will not read loan.

3. If you abort your mission that means you actually did not have any mission to accomplish. However, if you have been pushed to the wall and could not find any alternative then go ahead with your loan offer But its a high-risk gamble.Thank you for the response

Hey 🀠

A2A. @Greatkenny2.

** I remember you having a sister in the USA who wants to sponsor .

1. Any sponsor (s) who cannot cover your whole tuition expenses (except for personal spendings) is an " incapable sponsor "

2. If your NGN. 5 M will cover more than the outstanding deficit (till your final day of class) yes you can provide such financial evidence in you account . Some western embassies now prefers that the whole tuition funds be even deposited in the student's account in the case of the death of the sponsor or change of minds πŸ™„

3. Don't indicate joint sponsor on your Form I-20. If you want to update your I 20 amount you can transfer the 5.M NGN into your sister's account and get updated financial statement which you can send to your school for updated I 20.

Thank you for your response, the sponsors account covers the whole cost of attendance very well, she's the sole sponsor however,I heard that it helps if you show a certain amount of money as your own personal funds, it gives the impression that you saved from your years of work experience, not a requirement per say but it helps. I applied for for a scholarship but it wasn't approved so I was advised to mail the school to update my 1-20 with with personal funds. Do I ask for an updated i-20 or just go for the interview with my sponsors statement and personal statement

Hey 🀠

1. You stated above that your sponsor's account covers your whole tuition expenses which is fine and leaves you with no burden of sponsor again. Indicate your sponsor as the over-all person paying for your trip.

2. Lets say the whole tuition fees is N500 but you did not receive any scholarship when you applied , meanwhile your sponsor has N1000 in her account to display, so tell me what you are looking for again? You can tell the consular verbally about your savings and other personal financial plans.

3. Ask those people you heard from to guide you in the remaining self-adventure . For me you have passed according to sense 1 above.

Thanks for the insight sir, u gave an in depth explanation
Ps: not affiliated with anyone like the " CABALS" u mentioned oo and not a troll either just wanted to clear my doubts if going to a community college cus of the COA is a reasonable reason, thanks πŸ™
OyoTunjiUSA:

Hey 🀠

@Danieljobb. I know you are a troll who was sent from the cabal's camp but i'm still gonna lecture all of you. Go n pick a pen and a sheet of paper my friend.

1. People who spread rumor that going to a community college is not good to justify a student visa are ignorant and should keep the misinformation to themselves.

2. The only REQUIREMENTS for an International Student on a Student VISA is that you must have an admission to a SEVP approved school which 95% of USA community colleges falls under. It could be anything from clown college to a 4 year college. Many Indian and Asian students after graduating from high-school arrived USA just to learn (American) English at an ESL school. Is ESL schools better than a community college ?

3. One of the top reasons for denial of a visa is insufficient finances and inability to prove home-ties. IN FACT, choosing a community college shows that you have considered the matter carefully and chosen to start with a less expensive option.

4. Even for extremely wealthy families from Africa, choosing a community college makes a lot of sense (like immersion study centre ) : the student can get used to living in the USA and to USA teaching methods ( How many of African high school graduates, even University
graduates can perfectly write down a direct classroom- speech from lecturers and Professors from major American Universities who are typical American teachers ?).

4. I use Indians and Chinese students as my case studies (they send highest percentage of students to the USA) and if your reason of chosing a community college in lieu of an American University is COA then you have a reasonable reason.

5. If the applicant is younger then attending a community college in USA as a training ground to familiarise with American style of teachings and to adapt to lecturer's accents are reasonable points to the consular.

6. Even Nigerian teenagers still thinks they are in secondary school by their lifestyles on Nigerian University campuses, Not to talk of the pressure and over-excitement a 17/18/19 to 20 yr olds Nigerian students would encounter on American University campuses.

7. I am not placing community colleges above USA Universities but dont rule it out! Don't have the knowledege more than the American government who gave SEVP gestures to Community colleges.

It is possible but highly not advisable. Chances of a successful change of status from B1/B2 to F-1 is very unlikely.

You'd need to defend why you did not seek student visa in your home country and why it's important for you to switch from a tourist to a student, meaning your intentions have changed. You'll need to explain why your intentions changed from being a tourist to being a student!

Lest I forget, you cannot apply for change of status to student within 90 days of entry

My case I can NOT change status at all within 90 days stay. I must leave, so I am thinking of getting a visa, maybe study visa.

You are right. Thanks
