Northerners should NEVER be allowed anywhere close to sports in Nigeria anymore, they should stick to their ranka dede brand of politics that has ruined Nigeria.

It seems all of our football is dwindling at a slippery slope ever since Northerners were appointed...our youth football looks an unacceptable mess from U17-U20, our Super Eagles is beginning to tow that path with some criminal and dodgy player selections. How the Bleep can anyone explain why other countries are calling up 25-27 players for the WCQ while NFF are settling for only 23 players for the SE? which money are they trying to hide?

I feel bad for Finidi cause I think he is getting set up for failure.

There are some things that just don't make any iota of sense with our football honestly.

The bolded says it all.

Nigeria has under 14/15/16 team! Iheanacho was part of that team too before he joined the under 17! I believe that is a good initiative than open trial during major tourney!

Even if U14-16 is done, each days of these should be characterized with open trials to build each zone. And still when the U17 comes up, we must still hold open trials in multiple zones.

Iheanacho's set still had open trials in the U17. We can't discard it. It delivered back to back U17 titles.

He misses too much chances. So annoying. He should be the top scorer of this tourney but his lack of composure in the box is just frustrating. His missed against CIV got us here.

How will you say we didn't play well, we were exceptional in that game, yes we made few school boys error in our defence. Outside the two penalties, no real threat from Argentina

If I need a finisher, I won't pick Yaya Toure ahead of Onuachu. If I need a deep lying playmaker or box to box midfielder, or someone that offers both, I will pick Yaya Toure.

I am eager to know your position.

I would pick Yaya Toure ahead of Onuachu all the time every time whatever the position ,what ever the league.

There is absolutely nothing that Onuachu csn beat Yaya Toure on. The gulf in ablity, quality, technicality, physicality and skill is miles apart.

Seems Cote D'Ivoire is hosting the u 17 Afcon and by virtue of that have qualified automatically as host in that case, Nigeria has qualified.

Different roles, One is a midfielder, the other is a striker. Defensive + Midfield duty - Yaya Toure, Offensive duty - Onuachu

You are being too rigid and restricted in your view.

For top quality technically gifted and athletic players they cannot be put into one box.

Yaya Toure can literally play any position with high quality delivery and dominance. As a consequence of you played Yaya as a striker he would end in his prime as a contender for the golden boot.

This is guy who from midfield scored 20 goals in one season in the EPL.

Onuachu could not get one goal from 11 games in the EPL.

What you need to understand some players cannot be restrict by roles they are that good.

BREAKING:

Nigeria qualify for U17 AFCON

Nigeria finished in third place to scoop the bronze medals and book a place at next year’s Africa U17 Cup of Nations after a hard-fought 3-2 defeat of hosts Ghana at the WAFU B U17 Championship on Tuesday.

For several days now, there had been opacity around the number of teams that would proceed to the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations from the tournament in Ghana, but the window opened for the third-place winner here when, minutes to kick-off, Cote d’Ivoire (already in the competition final), was designated as hosts of next year’s continental finals.

With Cote d’Ivoire as hosts and guaranteed a slot, Burkina Faso (no matter the result of the final match) and the third-place winner in the earlier game of the final day, were assured of berths in Abidjan.

The biggest blunder any Super Eagles coach will make us forcing Boniface into a lineup that includes Osimhen. Osimhen/Boniface or Osimhen/Awoniyi doesn't work, previous trials have proven that.

Maybe it could work in the future with the right coach, but right now, one of them has to come in from the bench.

I don't see why Boniface can not start before VO, I don't believe the number 9 spot is the exclusive preserve of one player VO.

I truly believe Boniface brings something different and a good coach will try out different tactics and formations.

I did not say drop VO , l am saying there may be times it may be more advantageous to play Boniface than VO.

And if Boniface is not making impact then bring on VO

Boniface scored in his last league game same with Onuachu. There's still fire power but Osimhen will be missed for his X factor

Marjoribanks:
Osimhen out injured! Our strikers are either out of form or injured! Hmmm!
Only Lookman is fit! Wahala!

I just hope Chuks can rediscover his AFCON 2019 form....the attacking Trident should look more like.

Lookman......Osimhen/Boni/Awo....Chuks

I believe in Club form transferred to National team not past performances in the national team.

Chukwueze has had a season to forget he is out of form and may need to find another club because he is not displacing Pulisic any time soon.

I saw differently. The result of the combination was average at best. Also, if that is what they could come up with considering the level of opposition, how do you expect them to fair against way stronger opponents?

Their combination was a beauty to watch.

Boniface deftly played behind Osimhen and interpreted the role very well.

Are you tagging their synergy average just to prove a point.

Anyway, i respect your opinions, you know we may not see things the same way.

Yaya Toure has never played as a striker. Like never. Instinctively and training, he will be behind Onuachu.

I don’t knw y we Dey always shiver whenever osimhen is out injured…sheyb we Dey claim say na we get best attacking options …we no suppose miss am like dt na 😀😀
which best attacking option?
no dey mind people where no always dey tired of hyping.
we only have one striker proven in super eagles currently and one winger, the rest are either not dependable or not proven.

The game against SA will difficult, we will be lucky to come with a slim win or a draw.
but against Benin, if we can't win that comfortably with the players available, we may not qualify.

Long term replacement for a guy who still has a long career ahead of him. Injury is part of the game. Pick the best strikers and if anyone is out, someone will be ready to step in and perform. We don’t have a problem here.

Monsignor22:
I'll never question the loyalty of Osimhen because he gives his all whenever he dons that national jersey, BUT it's time we start preparing for the possibility of Osimhen's international career being disrupted by his worrying injury records. That's why it's very important we have a long term replacement for Osimhen who is reliable enough to deliver. My pick will be Boniface but even Boniface doesn't have the best of fitness records...

We cannot sugarcoat it at all. Osimhen will be missed. We hope Boniface and Lookman will step up. Onuachu has no business in that squad.

Osimhen has a spectacular record of missing key international matches/tournaments. Incredibly, the 2024 AFCON was the first international tournament in which he started a game for Nigeria 🇳🇬 (since making his debut 7 years ago!). In those 7 years, his only other tournament experience for Nigeria 🇳🇬 was playing a grand total of 45 minutes at the 2019 AFCON 5 years ago. He was also injured for the key World Cup qualifier against Ghana 🇬🇭 which Nigeria drew, and which meant Nigeria did not qualify for the World Cup.

He has an uncanny knack of getting injured or contracting Covid just before key international matches.

I'm sorry but the truth hurts, Osimhen is simply a player that CAN'T be relied upon in very important moments.

This Finidi guy looks too rigid and unserious to me. I thought the rubbish he did by failing to use his subs in the friendlies was a one off, but this his list is revealing a lot. Suddenly, he has discovered that a natural left back was missing in his list. He knew Osimhen and Chekwueze were not fit, he still called them up. Osimhen just withdrew and Chukwueze will soon withdraw.
