Nigeria has under 14/15/16 team! Iheanacho was part of that team too before he joined the under 17! I believe that is a good initiative than open trial during major tourney!

I think "used to" is a more accurate description. The development initiative under Maigari's administration was killed under Pinnick. The Iheanacho reference was under Maigari. Gasua isn't exactly showing interest in towing that line.

Also, they didn't go for open trials because of the limitedness of time and rather. Most if not all of the players were by recommendation, not sure any of them was from the u15 route.

RE: Finidi George Super Eagles invitation and the questions:

I was expecting Finidi George and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make use of the media tour in Lagos to announce the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The press conference at the Eko Hotels would have been the perfect window to release the squad and take questions from the media about the squad.

The fans and media would have to wait until Finidi George's press conference in Uyo to get clarification and answers to their questions.

I have been getting questions about certain players and I will be commenting on the questions.

“This is not the official position, but my investigation.”

Kenneth Omeruo:

He opted out of the game due to an injury he has been managing all season. He managed just seven minutes in his club's last five games.

Troost Ekong:

He's back from injury, but he has not played at the club since March.

Ola Aina:

He missed Nottingham Forest's last league game at Burnley. After the Nottingham Forest and Chelsea sources told me, he played the game with a painkiller. He was due to take a break after the Chelsea game. He's not fit.

Frank Onyeka:

He missed Brentford last League game against Newcastle but he was due to be fit and ready before the qualifiers next month.

Cyriel Dessers:

Straight forward. The coach doesn’t need him for this window.

The left-back situation:

Bruno Onyemaechi:

Bruno missed Boavista consecutive two games before the last game of the season. Against Vizela he was substituted in the 69th minute.

Jamilu Collins:

Jamilu missed Cardiff's last three games of the season.

Sources claimed Bruno and Jamilu were not 100% fit.

I have seen people ask about Moses Simon. Simon is still recuperating from the injury he sustained against Mali in March.

My source also claimed the release of the squad was delayed because Finidi George and the Super Eagles doctors were in contact with the clubs and players in Europe, updating their injury profile and availability.

Osimhen has a spectacular record of missing key international matches/tournaments. Incredibly, the 2024 AFCON was the first international tournament in which he started a game for Nigeria 🇳🇬 (since making his debut 7 years ago!). In those 7 years, his only other tournament experience for Nigeria 🇳🇬 was playing a grand total of 45 minutes at the 2019 AFCON 5 years ago. He was also injured for the key World Cup qualifier against Ghana 🇬🇭 which Nigeria drew, and which meant Nigeria did not qualify for the World Cup.

He has an uncanny knack of getting injured or contracting Covid just before key international matches.

I'm sorry but the truth hurts, Osimhen is simply a player that CAN'T be relied upon in very important moments.
Ever since his debut we have played in 3 tournaments namely afcon 19,21 and 23. He played 45 mins in afcon 2019 because ighalo was our striker and osi was just a young striker. Contracted covid just before afcon 2021, only tournament he missed for us. Played the two legs against Ghana for the WCQ. Dont know which qualifier against Ghana you are referring to that he missed. He Has always been present in all our qualifiers as evident by his highest goal scorer awards in our qualifiers.

BREAKING:

Nigeria qualify for U17 AFCON

Nigeria finished in third place to scoop the bronze medals and book a place at next year’s Africa U17 Cup of Nations after a hard-fought 3-2 defeat of hosts Ghana at the WAFU B U17 Championship on Tuesday.

For several days now, there had been opacity around the number of teams that would proceed to the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations from the tournament in Ghana, but the window opened for the third-place winner here when, minutes to kick-off, Cote d’Ivoire (already in the competition final), was designated as hosts of next year’s continental finals.

With Cote d’Ivoire as hosts and guaranteed a slot, Burkina Faso (no matter the result of the final match) and the third-place winner in the earlier game of the final day, were assured of berths in Abidjan.

Source: NFF.

That means Ghana might still qualify if CAF increase the number of slots. We have quality in the West African region. CAF should please scrap off this nonsense zonal qualification process.

Seems Cote D'Ivoire is hosting the u 17 Afcon and by virtue of that have qualified automatically as host in that case, Nigeria has qualified.

**seems***

Wow... another angle. We should be able to go through anyway anyhow.

Nice video and well laced.

For the team, the elements of play is there. There are promising signs. However, I have really not seen a standout talent yet. Someone that tickles my mind. The kind of feeling I got watching Musa Yahaya when he played.

Still early. Let us see how the team develops but I feel there is need for injection of more talents.

Still can't fathom how this guy just fizzled out. He was d engine room of that team.
For this new team. That Cletus is another Haruna Lukman. His work rate is poor.

My only question is have we tried the two Victors enough in a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 setup?

I'm hesitant to believe Osimhen and Boniface can't function in the same attacking lineup.

VO is aggressively direct using pace as his main weapon not technical ability as well as aerial prowess.

Boniface is the opposite he is deceptive and unpredictable that is his unique selling point but not so direct.

I think it's question of who you are playing and what strategy you adopt.

I don't think they can play together, VO needs a pyramid structure with him as the point man. Where as Boniface can play a more intricate passing game and play more in.

You just gave reasoning why they can play together rather than why they cannot

So as a scout, you don't know that it is more profitable to pair two players with different attributes in a two man attack? In this case, Boniface and Osimhen have different attributes that can make them a good pair..
And for God's sake, stop this constant rambling about Osimhen needing a pyramid structure with him as the point man.. that is how most out and out strikers are built.. even Halaand is like that..

CAF is really a confused entity.. according to reports, FIFA has expanded the u-17 world cup slot to 48 team.. that means more rep for Africa (reportedly 10 slots).. how are they planning to send 10 representatives from a 12 team tournament?
Abi there's something they haven't clarified?

From this team so far judging by their Wafu B performances, I would have to say Forward, Abdulmuiz Adeleke (#13) and Midfielder Simon Cletus (#10) are sure standouts. Not exactly Iheanacho/Nwakali/Osimhen/Yahaya-kinda standouts but those two truly are the top talents of this team so far.

Another interesting lad is Rapha Adams.

No country does open trail in this day and age with academies scattered everywhere!
TheGoodJoe:

Even if U14-16 is done, each days of these should be characterized with open trials to build each zone. And still when the U17 comes up, we must still hold open trials in multiple zones.

Iheanacho's set still had open trials in the U17. We can't discard it. It delivered back to back U17 titles.

Portuguese league killed a lot of our boys career!

I just don't understand how he failed the Tottenham test!
