Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu, has publicly rejected the newly adopted national anthem, choosing to sit during its recitation at a recent event.

Yesufu had shared the video of her protest with the caption #NotMyNationalAnthem on her X account on Friday.

This move comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, reinstating the old anthem "Nigeria, We Hail Thee"

No problem, her children will sing it on their schools assembly ground. It's not new, some people are even claiming they are not Nigerians, they're citizens of the only online Country the world has ever seen.

When we call them enemies of Nigeria this is one of the reasons.
It is the national anthem not a song about a politician or a party. Some people don't know where to draw the line. Her mind is just as ugly as her face.
She cut a pitiful, sad figure sitting there by herself like someone who came to collect a debt.

Some people just like fighting foolish issues.

The leadership has always determined what is the national anthem, the followership is meant to comply.

There was a public competition to determine the post independence national anthem that was adopted on 1st October 1960.

Just as there was also a public competition to determine the military national anthem in 1978.

The democratic leadership now has thought it best to return to the initial anthem, and this had support from the different political parties who constitute the National Assembly. This happened via a democratic and constitutional process.

So any mgbeke feeling funky and using that to protest privately, should keep their protest private.

At this point madam you’re on your own. This attitude of yours show how unpatriotic you are, it also shows how unstable you are because your patriotism only exist when the government of the day is your ally and that is evil. Our forefathers fought for the independence of this country with their sweat and blood, and one of the reason we sing the national anthem is to honor them and not to glorify the government of the day. Madam you should have stood up even if you won’t sing. People like you are not feat for leadership position because you think everything is a fight and if you eventually get to the top you’ll expend most of your energy trying to decimate those you perceive as your enemies.

Do you guys really want the good of this land? For God's sake some issues are beyond politics and tribalism.

You mentioned that all political parties were represented when the change was being made, but are you aware that not every Nigerian belong to a political party, if that be, then who represents these set of Nigerian

Like you rightly mentioned "public competition " or better still public opinions. The introduction and passing of this bill didn't last a week in the house. Even as we speak, majority of Nigerians do not understand the difference between both anthems. Rather than sort public opinions in town hall meetings and stakeholders gathering, this change was made based on one man's priority.

My friend, Nigeria is not under dictatorship, changing a country's national anthem is a sensitive matter. The change should have been made based on public opinion and not presidential priorities
