If you understand it, explain what it is ?

When parents say "I'm going to kill child" or people say " I'm going to kill you" do they mean it literally? Or is an exaggeration?

You probably never went to school, so English literature is beyond you.

So this is what u will say in court if u were her lawyer 😂🤣🤣😂... did her " figure of speech " affect sales ??

Now fool urself...madam figure of speech

Village tortoise. Go and read.

Erisco foods was never a big seller to begin with. The CEO is just pissed that his tomato paste came second best to Gino and he's just taking it on Chioma

Where exactly is it in the law or constitution that explicitly states that public criticism of a product is illegal or attracts jail time?

Can only happen in a banana Republic where freedom of speech is not guaranteed.

When you build a brand and recieve a subjective online criticism affecting your brand you will understand why Erisco is going all out. Let the court decide if it is legal or illegal.

His sales went down based on his actions towards Chioma, not based on her review like he claims. I'm not buying that, he's saying that to save face. He messed up and he knows it.

Interesting read.

I initially saw this case of chioma and a tomato paste brand on an article on probably CNN website but ignored it because I didn't want to deal with the negative feelings afterward. Now, I've read all the comments on this thread so I have a better idea of what went down.

The major thing that didn't sit well with me was the fact that both the police and our courts are tools that work for the rich. How the woman was kept in jail for months before being found guilty is not right. Even a guilty sentence may not necessarily come with a jail term. (HEAVY) fine would be understandable. Because I don't think the treatment she's gotten so far would happen if she was a well connected and influencial person.

Aside from that, I can't have any issue if the tomato brand wants to hold an individual accountable for their claim.

That's the problem I have with people's acts and viewpoints today. Everybody wants to just do as they please and not be held ACCOUNTABLE.

Everybody needs to learn something from this. Irrespective of the side you're supporting.

So how can u prove it?? Remember, its a case of defamation... u can't claim that his actions towards the accused is the reason sales went down ... his actions were purely legal and in bound with the laws of the land... she attacked first ,, and he responded thru the courts ...

Sentiment rules Nigeria. That is why majority of Nigerians condemn the action ERISCO Foods takes against the lady. Most nigerians place emotions above facts. The best way to handle the case is for the public to send apologies to the brand and assure the brand that its product will not be boycotted. You cannot save the lady by threatening the company. If you keep threatening the company, the company will choose to die as a hero than dying as a coward.

Don't mind them all.
Chioma bought market. She is alone in this mess, while the online "wokistans" that supported her are still buying and eating the same tomato paste in their homes.
People think its okay to just buy data on their devices and post crap out there for public consumption.
ERISCO has provided scientific evidence and approvals from SON, NAFDAC and its foreign manufacturer on everything concerning the tomato paste. Chioma has not been able to back even one word from her "online review".

You're simply paid for the epistle. How come you are the first to respond and comment in a long missiv. Erisco has more damage to itself than whatever the lady had not intended. The company must have been in trouble before the review.

Instead of Erisco contacting NAFDAC to do a damage control, it went after a helpless minion. The company has lost. I am sorry if I see the product I will not buy it.

1.
Right from the moment the lady defamed the product, sentimentalists quickly began to beat drums of boycott against the product. According to ERISCO, the demand for the defamed product sharply dropped following the defamation. But sentimentalists now claim that the defamation would not have affected the brand. They claim that what will affect the brand is the action being taken against the lady. So, the brand should have waited to fold up before challenging the defamation? Before you judge a person, put yourself in his or her shoes.

2.
The lady lied against the product by claiming it kills people. Who will keep quiet when accused of killing people? Who? If you condemn ERISCO Foods but cannot keep quiet when you are accused of murder, you are nothing but a hypocrite.

3.
I would have condemned the action of ERISCO Foods if the lady tendered a sincere apology and the public joined her to ask the brand for forgiveness. The same public that the brand's survival depends on believes the lady's claim about the product and threatens to boycott the product. So, the company is trying to save its reputation.

4.
I know she had miscarriage while in police custody, and it saddens me. But we should also know that many workers in ERISCO Foods may loose their jobs and die of hunger because of her defamation. Are you saying it is right for her to try to kill people but it is wrong for the people to try to defend themselves? ERISCO Foods didn't get her arrested to cause her the miscarriage. ERISCO Foods got her arrested for the sake of justice. The miscarriage is a coincidence, not a deliberate action.

5.
She said the paste contains Sugar. It is true, and the company never said otherwise. On the body of the paste, Sugar is listed as one of the ingredients in the paste. But the sentimentalists quickly joined her to cry that the company is deadly for putting Sugar in the paste. They implied that the company has been deceiving the public. How? Does the company hide the fact that the product contains Sugar? If not that you are stupid, you would have checked the ingredients in the paste before displaying your stupidity.

6.
The company explained that the paste is a multipurpose one that can substitute butter for bread. I saw some comments saying that such paste is being consumed for the same purpose in some Western countries. So, ignorance landed the lady and her fans into this mess. Who does a review without a thorough research?

Saying that a product kills people is no criticism; it's outright defamation and you will brought to court to prove your case. People of this generation need to learn that.

I won't lie, my cousin and I saw that Erisco tomato paste in a super market and we bought some to see if this lady was being serious with her review or being mischievous.

My honest review is that the sugar content was intense, which I'm not even bothered about because Gino and Tastytom also has sugar in them when you taste them raw.

However, the tomato paste when Cooked for jollof rice it taste like burnt rubber or plastic. The taste was horrible. It's not something I could use twice.

Thank God I didn't review it on Facebook or Instagram. Because that man don't take criticism
So after writing this story, where are the pictures. How are we sure you actually laid hands on an Erisco product? How are we sure you are not one of the senseless hater that want to maliciously destroy another man's business? How are we sure you are not one of the olodos that can not differentiate tomato paste from tomato ketchup? How do you know the taste of burnt rubber or plastic? Have you been eating burnt rubber in the past? You must have been eating burnt rubber and plastic for you to know this tomato tastes like it.
Nobody said you shouldn't review product, but if you want to be the next MKBHD, then learn to state facts, not sentiments.

I fully support what Erisco did my taking the matter to court. Nigerians are too careless with how they talk. You don't open your mouth and say just anything that you cannot prove against another and think that there is no consequences. People who don't understand the real issue in this case hinge their support for her on the ground that she was simply reviewing. No, she didn't just review, she went beyond honest and genuine reviews. To say that there is plenty sugar in a tomato paste is a sincere and honest review. But someone engaged her in the comment section of her purported review and told her that she was spoiling someone's business. She responded that the tomato paste is killing Nigerians. That was when she went beyond a review. That is why the company wants her to come and exhume the bodies of those who died by eating their tomato paste. She must tell the Court the names and addresses and medical history of those who died through eating of the said tomato paste. Thats all the company want from her since she insisted on not apologizing

You people don't get it. You cannot say that a product kills people when you haven't seen the people it killed. In the law court, you will asked to prove that it killed people. She was just an ignoramus who didn't know the consequences of what she was doing. In the social media space, we have many of them and we call it catching cruise.

You can say that a product has a lot of sugar and that it has a horrible taste. Then, you go ahead and write that you regretted buying it. That's destructive criticism, but saying that it kills people is going overboard.

Nonsense upon nonsense, in a sane environ, a company is meant to campaign and enlighten the public about this and that not threaten to deal with a consumer, the products were put in the market for same consumers right? If i dont like something after smoking BLESSING and hedges then i come out and say this cigarette contains lots of nicotine, which cigarettes normally do, is arresting me the next line of action? This is why religion enslaved people by shutting them from voicing their opinion and questioning things being preached to them...

One thing i want to know is if the owner of the company was from another tribe, would the ladys people be silent?
Seems when the tribe effect checkmated themselves, people chose btw rich and poor.

For your info, products plenty with negative effects for body..
Please borrow yourself some brain naah, haba! How will you say a cigarette contains lots of nicotine just by smoking one? Do you have some form of analyser in your lungs? You should learn the difference between review and accusation.
"It tastes like there's plenty nicotine in it" this is acceptable cos at least you can taste.
"It has plenty nicotine in it" this is an accusation you can't prove. Where is your lab?
Besides, nicotine or not, that is not the issue. But coming to the public to say a named brand of cigarette kills people is a very big accusation, especially when you can not name one person it killed. You can only say such and get away with it when you are too small that the company doesn't even know you exist. But if you succeed in getting their attention with that, I'm sure you won't like their reaction.
