Early this year when the price of rice was soaring, one APC supporter on Twitter said it's not by force to eat rice; Nigerians should find alternatives.

Today, even the alternatives are expensive. Our bad leaders are only part of the problem; the main problem are our fellow common citizens that support the bad leaders.

We can't throw money at every problem and expect it to disappear.
Even if pump N15T like we did for coastal road, agriculture has seasons and waiting time. But what will the public eat before it grows/mature!
They should have planted immediately they came in. Any action for now is late, we can only import in the immediate now.

Faiththatworks:

The Government should declare a state of Emergency and pump massive money to the Agricultural sector as soon as tomorrow.

I read the article and there is a lot of truth in what was said,I will not bother to bore anybody with my analysis but rather speak on my suggestions to this rising food crises which if not tackled quickly can lead to unrest

I suggest the following measures to be adopted in the short term
1) Importation of food stuff (1 to 12 months)
The Federal Government must open the borders for food to be brought in,staple food like rice, beans and wheat should be brought in quickly
Also Vegetable Oil and possibly frozen chicken and fish should be have tariffs removed
People need to eat and they don't care where it comes from

2) Middle term (1 to 18 months)
The Federal Government should work with stakeholders including state governments, private sector and agricultural and aquaculture cooperatives to secure farmlands from non state actors like bandits and Herdsmen

Allow people to know that they are secured and that they would not be at the mercy of this criminals
This will allow continous sowing and harvesting to be going on all year round

3) Long term
This is where the States and Local Govt have a role to play, they must produce plans and roadmaps for their people
The federal government cannot produce food,it is the job of the states and Local Govt,Land which is material in Agriculture is vested in the states and Local Govt.
Let each state who are willing carve out arable land for interested participants, provide Infrastructure for the farmlands and approach the federal government for low interest rate
Also, individuals should be encouraged to grow food in spaces available to them
My mantra is Buy some, Grow some

People are getting fed up and the time for stories are over,we need an Operation Feed the people now

I give you 80%
Well spoken

throwing nigerias borders open to unlimited food importation will rubbish the small progress made in developing local agriculture and stabilization of the naira by less demand of dollar for imports, there is no short term first aid solution for this food crisis now because the president has already made a mistake by removing subsidy and floating the naira without knowing fully well the domino effect, the problem
needs to be tackled head on by an innovative massive agricultural program like the new deal of America that took them out of depression ,cannot our leaders study and replicate such programs?, this is a situation that needs a visionary as a leader,a person that has the ability to see in the future, which sadly we don't have

It's a big lie, there is no hunger in the land.
There is silence because we don't want anybody to disturb our peace. Shebi Peter Obigiringori is now responsible for the high cost of Knorr, gari, yam and beans. I submit to you that no progress has been made at all and I stand by my words. Locally produced rice and beans is almost as expensive as the imported ones so what was the use of all the billions that was allegedly distributed to farmers? The same farmers cannot go to farm because of insecurity. Why are we shutting the border against food importation when we don't have enough capacity to produce locally in sufficient quantity? Is this not wickedness?

There is no massive agricultural program that will yield the kind of short-term result that is needed to combat the hunger in the land. Imagine buying garri paint rubber for 4k-5k in this country that has cassava in abundance.

Well I never expected anything tangible from Tinubu cos I never believed in him or APC but to think that Tinubu has beat Buhari by running the economy aground in less than a year makes buhari appear like a saint and it's unfortunate.

I only feel for those who voted APC and placed all their hope and emotion in Tinubu. Hold on tight....still a long way to go there's 7 more years. By the time he's done hunger may have wiped off a quarter of the country
