My only problem with this minimum wage issue is that it only favours civil servants. Those of us in the private sector, and those who have no sector are suffering the hardship brought by the strike. Ones labour get what they want they'll move on.

Them called the meeting tripatal committee.so private are included.

More than 30%

How did you arrive at that figure?

Those in the public sector where there's 100% compliance are not up to 5% . So how can the private sector where there so many exemptions for employers be more than 30%.

If you haven't read the minimum wage act as it applies to the private sector, Google it and read and come back to tell me how it can be what you say it's.

Civil servants are the most populous in labour. If they get it right, it's a positive step. Private sectors that can pay big but hiding before ll pay up. It's only mushroom private sectors that earn less ll be paying less. Also, NLC ll still come back to reform labour in Nigeria. All those slavery employment ll reduce and it's only an employee that wished to be enslaved that ll be slaved

Must NLC and TUC shut down power even in the evening. How do they expect kids to sleep without fans running?

This is just being too unreasonable!

We are too emotional and sentimental in this country. Y'all shouting bogus allocation for lawmakers, what is the percentage of their money in our national income to what workers are taking every month? You can't even compare the ratio. Political office holders throughout the country don't even make up to 3 percent of total government workers in the country. Only heavy workers wages can sink the country into unrecoverable debt and total collapse, politicians take home is too megre to achieve similar purpose. Criticise wisely fellow compatriots undecided

I'm a Christian, but I must say the Government did not really subsidize Hajj - it's just that their communication apparatus is just too dumb to carry Nigerians along. The fact is that Hajj fee is dollar based and was fixed and many intending Pilgrims have already paid or been sponsored by their respective State Governments before the FX crashed badly. The repercussion is that the amount already paid by prospective pilgrims became inadequate due to the new naira equivalent of the Hajj fee dollar FX. At that point, the FG and state governments controlling pilgrims became obliged to make up the differential, as asking the pilgrims to pay more will result in serious political and religious backlash (two very critical issues in our jurisdiction).

One might blame the Government for getting involved with pilgrimage in the first place, but these people are actually ambassadors of the country in a way and government ought to have a sort of control over their behaviour out there. More so as the President is looking forward to securing Foreign Direct Investment from the Arabs. We cannot expect our government to show nonchalance to one of the very important products of the Saudi Government.

No matter how you try to pain it, that excuse is lame.

No, whatever is agreed for all, public and private sector. That is what the minister of State for Labour said on Channel TV last night.

Not at all.
The private sector suffers currently because the purchasing power of civil servants is nothing to write home about. When the purchasing power of civil servants improve following a significant increase in minimum wage, then there will be more patronage of the private sector and even those without sector will also benefit from the largesse of friends and well wishers in the public and private sectors

If the minimum wage ia 100k, the employer of the driver would be forced to go up to like 50k. If minimum wage is 60k, the driver might be given 30k.

In essence, the higher the minimum, the better for everybody

What type of reasoning is this.

Minimum wage is minimum amount public or private employers can pay.

If u pay less ur workers union can decide to charge u to an industrial court.

Arent some states paying 18k and some 8k when minimum is 30k?

No state is paying 8k.

And buhari 30k minimum does not apply to all federal workers.

Most Fg revenue generating parastatal like my place of work where not entitled to it then.

You are not serious. You should rather compare the ratio of the number of political office holder to what they take home against that of civil servants. That's a better than at of looking at it.

Was not aware of it.

60k or 100k

Nigerians will still experience inflation.

Expect federal government to direct their generating parastal to increase their goods and services.

Labour should be reasonable with their demands 60k is okay.

When minimum wage was 30k average federal workers salary is more than 200k.

With increase to 497k expect the least federal generating parastatal to received 7m to 10m per month.

Labour should collect 60k if the lawmakers and executives will follow the same salary structure

No, Boss.

If the teaming Nigerian workers are well remunerated, the private sector operators like yourself (as you claim) will not be left out.

The economy in a country is about circulation of funds.
So if you're in buying and selling or service-rendering sector of the economy; you will see money flowing to you as workers earn their wages and go around spending their monies on goods and services...

Remember, when workers earn good wages, the end of each month is a pleasant time for the business people as well as the workers. At least their were such times in the past in Nigeria
