It's not by force to eat cow meat, you can sell it any amount so long as you don't harvest people's farm produce and give to your cows. The poultry, pig and other farmers don't they buy land they use for their biz? Why should you graze on my farm produce and at the end sell same cow to me while I'd be left with nothing at the end of the day?

I am advocating for Grazing boundaries or restructured grazing.

The Southeast is allowed to ply their trade and open spare parts shop in katsina
The Southwest is holding Aso-rock Office in Abuja
The South-south is FCT Minister in Abuja
Why cant the northern Fulani man feed his cow in the south ?
Let’s be tolerant and restructure cattle grazing to accommodate everybody.
can you listen to yourself?
So we should allow Fulani herders continue to kill people and destroy farmlands?? By the way they are just migrants

You really need brain check up

Growing your own grass in the north is akin to Lagos telling Abia to import their own goods from their own ports.
There is arid dry season in the north where nothing grows for about 6 months.
Sir did you do geography in school ?
This is a pathetic way of reasoning and it portrays a poor way of reasoning. The UK grows a lot of grass for its cows, same as Holland who are top tier when it comes to beef export in the whole world. Now do we have rains in the Uk? NO, if cow is as/are so important they can pipe water to where ever and when ever the see fit.
You are here talking about Abia to import their own goods, How does the Importation of goods from china or abroad fru Lagos affect you in the North or better still in Lagos? Talking about Geography my friend I bet you any money you have no clue of what that means cos as we speak, there is bare irrigation going up in the north that you know next to nothing about.
PS if you have nothing better to say go back to your HUT!

Potential Impact on Beef Prices
Implementing large-scale ranching could significantly increase the cost of beef due to the high expenses associated with establishing and maintaining ranches. These would make Nigerian cows too expensive for purchase as cows from Niger and other neighboring countries practicing open grazing will be cheaper in the open market.

Suggested Practical Solutions
Designated Grazing Areas: Allocate specific areas for grazing to prevent clashes while allowing pastoralists to continue traditional herding methods.
Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Establish local committees to mediate disputes between farmers and herders, promoting peaceful coexistence.
Cooperative Farming: Encourage farmers and herders to form cooperatives, sharing resources and knowledge to improve productivity and harmony.
Community-Based Animal Health Services: Provide mobile veterinary services to support herders, reducing the need for long migrations and potential conflicts.
These solutions aim to be cost-effective and fair to both cattle herders and farmers, ensuring sustainable practices and reducing conflicts.

Ibos, Yorubas and other ethnic groups don't go to the North to kill the local people going about their business. They do not go there with a air of "born to rule" superiority, nor with an agenda to dominate and wipe out other cultural identities. They don't go there with the mentality of displacing their hosts and using government support to escape justice. Only if you can see the level of animosity you people have created for yourselves by your attempts to conquer Nigeria. You have succeeded with the Hausas. You CANNOT succeed with the South.

The SouthEast pay rents for their shops.
SouthWest campaigned with his personal resources to attain that office.
South South worked, using his individual resources to attain that position.
Nobody stops the Fulani man from using his resources to provide feeding for his cows, why should the whole country be inconvenienced because of his personal business which only him enjoys its profits?

Cattle is no more profitably reared by men wandering about in the bush.
But these northern legislators feign ignorance of this fact because of their desire to expand their type of political Islam to the south of Nigeria in their drive for an Islamic Republic of Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal laws.

Blame southern politicians who are like they believe that one Nigeria is indivisible, 12 northern Nigeria states had since 1999 urinated on Nigeria's Constitution through adoption of Islamic Sharia criminal justice system, literally drew the boundary of Arewa Islamic Republic, but clutch tight to one Nigeria because of lucre in the southern regions.

Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is primarily a tropical and subtropical grass that thrives in areas with ample rainfall and warm temperatures. It prefers well-drained soils and typically grows best in regions with high moisture availability.

Thank you for being civil with your comment. Nowadays we have to thank people for civility,as its rare on Nairaland. I understand the concerns raised. I do not have the answer,i think we have the worlds cheapest beef because of open grazing. Taking away cheap beef could have a lot of consequences down the line. Ranching is expensive. A lot of people throwing the word around. Grazing routes could be established. Nigeria is big enough, to accommodate farmers an ranchers. Feeding a cow in a ranch for 2 years before selling will make beef prices next to Gold in Nigeria. Trust me. Look at beef prices in USA, Brazil and China. We cannot pay those prices with our minimum wage.

The core North has very vast landmass. the governors should invest in ensuring all year round irrigation of the fields, where grasses which serves as their fodders should be grown all year round, with universities like ABU, UDU etc multiplying and selling those grass seeds.

Na wa o.
Can you leave Aba and go to Kano and force your shop in a place the community disagree? You pay for the land or you pay for the shop but the Fulanis go to everywhere they like destroying lives and proper ties. The remedy you listed has been tried and it is not working. And... I think u should wake up. Nigeria cannot move forward if we keep thinking like this is the 15th Century. Ranching is the modern thing. The insecurity posed by pastoral nomadism is enough reason to scrap it.

I appreciate your points but if beef prices went up 4 times their current rates. Nigerians will be completely locked out of eating adequate protein.I also want a solution, but lets find a viable inexpensive solution akin to our own environment.
Telling every herder to ranch is like telling every Nigerian to buy electric car because petrol is now too expensive.

Beef does not cost $30 per kilo in the usa nna.
Cattles and other livestock should be raised in ranches as is obtainable elsewhere in the civilized world.

A lot of people (farmers, herders, travelers, women, children, communties) have lost their lives because of conflicts with herders.

Countless women have ben raped in their farms and murdered.

It is time to do away with the traditional herding practice. This bill is welcome.

Do you know how much will feed a cow for 2 years in a ranch ??

Compare it to a nomadic free grazing cow ??

Then go and find another work to do. Learn a skill or something. It is not by force to rear cattle.

Telling every herder to ranch is like telling every Nigerian to buy electric car because petrol is now too expensive.

Your analogy no follow.

Cows who are always being marched from one point to another take longer to fatten.

The broiler chicken matures for consumption with enough meat between 2,1/2 to 3 months. Its free range counterpart takes anywhere from 6 months to one year and will have less meat.

Ranching is the way to go. They should go and learn newer husbandry methods.

Thank you.
