Enugu State Government Seals EEDC Due to Disconnection Notice by SoNature(m): 4:59pm On Jun 11
The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Tuesday, sealed the offices of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in Enugu State.

This is happening days after EEDC announced that it would disconnect power supply to the Enugu State Government House and those of other state governments as well as institutions in the South-east over N180 billion debts which they allegedly owed the company.

The spokesperson for the EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement forwarded to PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr Ezeh said, on arrival at the EEDC headquarters in the state on Tuesday morning, he and other staff members of the company were surprised to observe that the ECDTA had sealed their headquarters.

“We were informed by the security men on duty that in the early hours of today (Tuesday) at about 1:53 a.m., a group of men came and locked up the gates, claiming that the state governor directed the action,” he said.

The spokesperson said, apart from the headquarters, their offices in Abakpa, Awkunanaw and Ogui areas were also sealed by the agency.

He said the development was “strange” given that there was no notice of any sort to the EEDC from the ECTDA.

According to him, “there has not been any clear information or communication from the ECDTA explaining their action.”

Disconnection Notice
Mr Ezeh suspected that the sealing of EEDC’s offices might be connected to the notice issued by the company to commence disconnection of its indebted customers as from Tuesday.

“Enugu State Government happens to be one of the indebted customers with over N1 billion owed to EEDC. It is important to state that the majority of the state government’s facilities are metered. So, it is not a case of estimated billing,” he said.

“EEDC has about N180 billion as debt owed the company and has concluded plans to commence disconnection of indebted customers.”

ECDTA silent
When contacted on Tuesday, the chairperson of the ECTDA, Uche Anya, told PREMIUM TIMES that he would not immediately speak on the incident because of a meeting he was going to have with the state governor, Peter Mbah.

Pressed to confirm why the ECTDA sealed the offices of the electricity company, Mr Anyanwu said, “I will return your call.”

He was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Sincerely, I don't understand black people. Does it mean the government wants to keep enjoying for free something they cannot do for the people?

Imagine!

So, Enugu State Government House is basically saying they want the power for free.

If I am the EEDC manager, they won't see power for nothing like 6 months.

They have claimed the northerners are the one dragging them back. I always ask them how northerners are the reason their state governments refuse to do roads and make their states be like Dubai?

Do we blame the northerners in this case too?

You can't pay for the service rendered.

Sometimes the reason why the citizens are suffering is because of bad government.

That's when government works effectively. Imagine carrying out the sealing up at 1am when everywhere is quiet. Same is done during rigging of elections.

The State is leading by what they know. The administrators of the state are not Educated or Enlightened enough. They could be manageably literate (can manageably read and write) but they are not well educated not to talk of being Enlightened.

How do we expect their reaction to be sensible? Who can give what he doesnt have and doesnt belong to him? Knowledge, wisdom and understanding does not belong to them. Many administrators do not have the baseline common sense, decorum, education, enlightenment and natural will to be sensible and impartial and unfair in their dealings.

They cannot give what they don’t have. They only give what they have and use techniques they know. When they search their brain, only this reaction is there. Compounded by the fact that power intoxicates and can make you only think the wrong thing, push for the wrong thing, and believe the wrong thing to be correct and to be your full rights to demand the wrong thing.

Unfortunately, they know and can only give these as it forms what is fundamentally within their mental faculties and capacities:

-Abuse of Power
-Defaulting in paying bills and salaries
-Abuse of office
-Administrative Bullying
-Subversion
-Criminality
-Oppression
-Sexual exploitation and harassment
-Stealing
-etc.

Which ever Director that approved this SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY. How such a foolish and disgracefully shameless decision was taken.

Shame on the Enugu State Government ! Shame on the on the Physical Planning and Urban Development Team and Directors!!
Shame on you all!!!

I think you are mistaken, I have a meter and I have to pay before before use, I don't need to be disconnected as the unit will tell me when I add more units.

He said they're all metered so how can they have over 1 billion in debt.
