Unfortunately, this isn't what we are talking about in the UTD context...

If you check Patrick's post, he clearly stated that the DoF should sign players who are best fit for the pattern of play the club adopts... apparently for continuity and sustainability. In this regard it is the manager that has to "adapt", and not the other way round. With this, we can also assume that the DoF would literally be the one to also "pick" the coach that would be best suited to the club's football philosophy.

I actually agree that the DoF should identify and maybe recommend players to the manager....at least for a club that is still struggling to get back to its glory days...However, for the purpose of accountability, the gaffer's voice should still carry more weight -we all know who gets the heat when things go south
No the gaffer voice should not carry more weight. The coach is supposed to understand how the club wants to play and decide whether to accept or reject the contract

Naah... Coaches voice ought not to carry more weight when recruiting players cos Las Las, coaches job are mostly transient compared to players.

It should be a joint responsibility and understanding. Ten Haag and the Dof should decide what style and pattern of play they want to adopt, once this is settled, then the Dof would get to work to give him the kind of players that would suit such pattern.

That's the synergy most top successful teams do.

Pep has always credited the recruitment team at City for the signings even though he gets all the credit. He does not identify the players he will be consulted of course.

“The most important department is the scouting department, much more than manager and players,” he said. “When Txiki Begiristain and [others] choose well, 80% is done. When they don’t, you spend a lot of time and energy [trying to redress this]. That’s my feeling.”

Ilkay Gündogan, another brought in under Begiristain, has impressed in the holding role this season with Rodri injured and Fernandinho having to cover in central defence. The German did likewise towards the end of last season and Guardiola admitted to being wrong about Gündogan’s ability to operate there.

Lool

The same scouting department that also wasted significant amount of money on bums like Kalvin Philips, Graelish etc is now the next best thing after sliced bread because Pep has decided to "romance" their ego?

Baba - there's no way we gonna downplay the importance of a manager at a football club.

So they listed all the things the manager needs to be focused on, and it still looks like downplay to you? Issokay

That's what we want to see from this transfer windows going forward. I will be more interested in the "Not Obvious" signings. This will be a testament of how good our scouting system can be. If I still read about us going after obvious signings, I just know those scouts are doing nothing

Which thing is that?

Them say the city's scouting department is "near perfection" and I humbly pointed out numerous bums that the same department has wasted huge amounts of money on cheesy

I dont think we're having the same conversation. I posted that to show Pep is not wholly responsible for City's signings as he has said numerous. If that's to romance their ego that is your opinion and that's fine. I dont have an opinion on that and dont care. City have had their misses too like everyone. if you want to credit him for good signings you also credit him for the Kalvin Philips as well.

Klopp famously did not want Salah and had to be convinced and they veto'd his preferred option of Brandt over Salah. Its part of the reason Klopp and Michael Edwards fell out and Edwards left the club but now returned after Klopp announced his departure.

Yes, I would give Pep credit, because even with those bums, he has been able to navigate his way through to success... grin

Today, nobody even remembers how much Graelish cost City

They didn't veto anything - rather the scouts were able to convince Klopp about Salah.

Two different things, please.

Real Madrid and several top club board sign players they feel is good enough to play for their Club, it is the job of the coach to work with the players and get the best out of them. Bald Fraud record of identifying players have been atrocious, he shouldn't be entrusted with such responsibility going forward....

Ten Hag & Sancho truth revealed! 🧨
What really happened between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho? “Before Arsenal game in September, during a training session, Jadon Sancho did not commit to pressing as an opposition player in the practice match in the way Erik ten Hag wanted”, says Laurie Whithwell.
“Sancho was offered the chance to end his involvement early, which he took by walking off the pitch — this is why Ten Hag referenced his training levels in that famous interview”, reported on The Athletic.
“After Erik Ten Hag’s second game at United, away to Brentford, Sancho told Ten Hag that United had bought the wrong player [him] because he prefers to play on the left, rather than the right. This is why Ten Hag decided to sign Antony in the remaining days of the transfer market”.

Why play him out of position tho..
If before he signed they said.
Ahhh bros it's right wing oh.. at least he would zero his mind..
When he signed we didn't have any issues with right wing..
Greenwood had it on lock.

Maybe we sold left wing to him...

So if u are saying u will play right wing why shouldn't he complain..

Expect the same from garnacho also.. he's not a right wing player..Nd he plays better on the left..

So we better sell antho Nd get a proper rightwing Nd stop doing cut and sew.

If the new DoF is also a lover of serial wánkers like Antony, wetin go happen? grin
The job of recruiting will not rest on the table of the Dog alone, it's a team of experts that will review each target on the list before the club makes a move.

gathering the famous 'galaticous' was a long-term project that spanned like 5 years or thereabouts. At a point the project achieved results. It only failed at that point when the stars became over-bloated. I think it was at that point that Ronaldo was bought that the balance of the team tipped from it's peak. That does not mean the galaticos project failed by winning next to nothing. They won before the last 'galatico' came into the team.

Ten Hag continued to instruct for a higher starting line so that his team could squeeze the play in the final third. It was the blueprint mapped out by the #mufc hierarchy. But the team would drop deeper than Ten Hag intended, leaving large spaces in midfield.

🚨 NEW!

Wow. Laurie Whitwell with some very interesting updates here on Ten Hag and Antony.

"Ten Hag is said to be deeply DISAPPOINTED that the signing [Antony] is not working out.

"After Antony argued with Ten Hag about playing at left-back against Liverpool in the FA Cup, Ten Hag ripped into him in the dressing room, telling him bluntly he had to play where he was told.

"Ten Hag also gave Antony brutal criticism in the dressing room after his display from the bench in the 2-0 win over Everton in March, to the extent that Antony appeared visibly affected."

Yeah, he's getting sold.

Other reports said the opening bid was 51m, which was immediately rejected. They also said Everton wanted 80-100m.

It’s good that the club is fighting back in its this subtle way.
