Hello house. Any idea if an Msc/PhD combined program admission can qualify one for CAT A? Thanks in advance. |

Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by MrAAA2: 8:38pm On Jun 18 |
Coralmum: The lead is PhD and you get MSc alongside right? If that is it, then the admission letter states it clearer. |
Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by Hannania(m): 11:38pm On Jun 18 |
Coralmum:I know the German system does not do a direct PHD from bachelors. One of the reasons PHD was placed in CAT A is because it's research intensive and most PHDs in Germany are on scholarship or employment. If you don't meet this criteria, nahh, you'll not be allowed |
Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by Coralmum: 1:27pm On Jun 19 |
Hannania:Oh! Thanks for the info. It's just that on the course overview. It stated 'combined masters degree/ PhD programme'. Again, can a 2024 First class Msc (to be used for another msc fly)? I don't mean to bug you. Thanks. |
Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by Coralmum: 1:30pm On Jun 19 |
MrAAA2:Thanks for replying. No, the lead is Msc. But it states Msc/PhD combined. Yet to get the admission letter to confirm if it is also indicated there. |
Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by Hannania(m): 1:37pm On Jun 19 |
Coralmum:For the first question, you can ask the embassy and attach your admission letter where it's stated in the email you'll send. If it's not sponsored, I'm very sure they don't let it fly. Query them and see though . What's the worst case ? a No? For the second, I've answered it above. Please scroll up to see the detailed reply 1 Like |

Hello! I really need guidance I recently completed my undergraduate studies with a CGPA of 4.02/5. I am preparing to apply to German universities for my master’s degree, and eventually pursue a PhD. Since Germany requires a master’s degree before pursuing a PhD, I have several questions that I need clarified: 1. Do I need to gain admission first before funding my blocked account? 2. Can I use an MPOWER loan or any other online loan financing to fund the €8,000 required in my blocked account? 3. What do CAT A and CAT B mean? Are these categories related to securing a visa interview date? Please kindly explain how the entire process works. |

Pls I have a question? On the visa page there is a part that says if you start date has passed and you don't have AD you should cancel it. What should one do at that point. Thank you |
Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by nellystrong7(m): 1:25pm On Jun 20 |
Gaining admission is the first and most important. Reason been that without admission your visa request is not possible. You will not gain access into the Embassy/Consulate without without providing an admission letter from a university in Germany. I will attach a checklist link below. Secondly the amount to block is 11,208€ as of 2024 and not 8,000€. I don't know if you can use MPOWER loan but source of funds is usually verified. Cat A and Cat B are related to securing Appointment at the Embassy in other to process your visa request. Cat A: holding a letter of admission for PHD studies or holding a bachelor's degree with a grade of 1. Class issued no more than TWO years ago and having been accepted to a master's degree (also a DSH course-related admission to the master's program) or PhD study in Germany or holding a scholarship financed from German public funds or European supported funds for a study or a PhD in Germany or holding a signed “Aufnahmevereinbarung” / hosting agreement concerning your research fellowship with a university or research institute accepted by the “BAMF”. Category A receives Appointment Date (AD) within 2-3 weeks of booking Appointment. Category B: For those that made 2.1, 2.2, etc... are in Category B. The waiting time is 18-21 months.

1. By virtue of having made 2.1 and without scholarship to Study in Germany, you re automatically a category B visa applicant. To get appointment under this category, you MUST wait over a year(officially stated in the consulate official website). Currently, it's informally concluded that waiting period is 16-20 months. 2. You can block account anytime you want especially if the money is yours and you don't mind leaving the money in the blocked account as long as you wait. The advantage of blocking it is perhaps, it would be immune to euro fluctuations. For instance, someone who blocked account in 2022 would have blocked at #1100/ euro, today you have to block at #1580/euro. Ultimately, this decision is yours to make. 3. Germany or planning to travel to Germany comes with massive patience. The waiting is all there is to consider many a time. 4. You can use any legal and legit source to fund your block account but be sure you know the number of instalment payable to any merchant for your block account. There's is Fintiba and Expatrio. 1 Like |

Since Appointment Date (AD) is no longer given on the day you book, rather you are on a queue (waiting list). No need to cancel it. If you cancel, you are taken away from the waiting list. Make sure you have an admission letter before your interview. Bryanutuk: 1 Like |

nellystrong7: Thank you so much. With my CGPA, I fall into Category B. Does that mean after admission, I will have to wait for 21 months before I can get a visa appointment at the embassy? How will I be able to start classes while waiting for almost two years to get a visa appointment to enter Germany? |

Please I'm planning to pursue a master's degree in Germany. What are some courses that will be the best to do? I need updates from someone with experience. What will be my first step as a starter? What institution will be the best? |
