Sure they do, I actually read the post from a nairalander talking about how he has been enjoying the unlimited 20 (20 for 20mbps download speed) from airtel. He stated that the router comes in two variants, an outdoor unit(ODU) and the normal 5G routers that usually come with a small power bank. I was reading as a guest and I didn't save the link to that particular post, it would have come in handy at this point. I don't know if it's just me, but lately, MTN data just seem like a bottle of fanta given to a toddler, it's exhausted in no time. I've spent 8k on data this week alone.

I thought I was the only one who noticed how quickly MTN data drains. The 20GB I usually buy doesn’t even last a week. undecided

Thanks. I am not really worried about it as I have gotten used to data and electricity costs due to my work. However, people kept mentioning smart tv and I almost thought it was free to use. So, it was more of a shock for me.

The airtel 5g router sounds like a good idea. That is if truly Airtel offers unlimited at 20k.

free advice, if you would consider it.

I watch almost all my stuff on YouTube. I used to wonder where all the data sub went to till I adjusted the display settings from 1080p to 480p. And voila!, no more zapping.

I don't do Netflix so I am not sure if they also have such adjustment options. If you're contented with watching everything on YouTube, then with this solution, you would wonder why your sub is not running out.

Give it a try and spot the difference. Save the thanks for later. 👍🏽

It's not advisable to run a smart TV on capped data plans. There are some internet service provider that offers uncapped data plans but at a higher initial cost for installation.

Hello, just installed my DSTV after a long hiatus since 2022, the decoder came on and began upgrading but it suddenly stopped sending signal to the TV, and showed a yellow light on the decoder, which refused to switch to green or red when the power button is pressed.

I've informed DSTV and they told me to bring the decoder tomorrow with the power adapter to their nearest office.

The installer is telling me the decoder installation probably hanged, and I might need to buy another decoder.

Abeg make una epp me oh, I just bought this decoder brand new in 2020 oh. So decoder go just spoil within 4yrs laidat ni?

Take it to the shop,
They have direct access to DSTV server,
They will upgrade it sharp sharp.
I have done that severally.
It usually occurs when ever your decoder is not connected or upgraded for a long period of time, one month and above.
That installer na criminal.
Re: My Experience Using A Smart TV by Sapiosexuality(m): 7:53am On Jun 24
Didn't your Smart TV come with an inbuilt decorder? You simply need to find out, and connect to a dish outside the house to get free channels depending on the satellites you connect to.

And for yours to suck 120gb when connected to a network means you must have been watching movies at 1444pixels and above. 720p and 480p will not suck that amount of data in four days.

Depends on what she watched.

YouTube has some settings which saves you a lot of data.

The quality of 480P is just fine for almost everyone.

Adjusting this setting to Auto or 1080P will just drain your data unnecessarily.

Netflix, DSFTV stream, Showmax and most other movie apps have this feature too.

An 80GB monthly sub on MTN serves me for both work and TV.

Installation of Starlink would cost you over ₦40 0k. And I think there's a ₦30k+ monthly fee. Good side is it's unlimited; monthly is monthly..no expiration midway.

Secondly, if you are on MTN, you could do a 150gb for ₦16k monthly on a MiFi (or your personal device then share hotspot). Dial *121# for the offer from MTN.

Either way, both the smart tv, Starlink and DSTv are expensive. I use them and I can tell you there's no cheaper option.

I stopped using DSTv too tho since I watched only football with it. I use a free app to stream Live Matches now.

Meanwhile, if you are the movie type, you can download Movie Box on Appstore or Playstore and download movies free. Any movies.

If you follow a tv program or want a larger selection of movies (selected for you), DSTv can help. There is a movie package too.

Netflix is also expensive but can give you latest movies too and you can't find every movie you want there cos some are on Amazon, HBO, Disney etc. You'd do a monthly subscription plus data.

Please which do you stream football with? The one I was using, since I updated it, is not showing again. Thank you

Cheers.

I switched to IPTV live streaming by getting an android TV box last month. I also got Airtel 5G router. With the experience I have had so far; I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO DSTV OR USE ANY CABLE TV.

I watch more of Geopolitics news and football but hate it that I can't have access to RT news which is my favorite news network. I hate all the CNN, Bloomberg, BBC, Reuter, DW, France24, Euronews, Skynews, Nbc, Fox new of this world

They are all western manipulation and propaganda machine. I despise them all. The only news source I consume are Russian RT news, Al Jazeera and Chinese CGTN. Since the start of Russo-Ukraine war, RT was banned from YouTube. I couldn't get it anywhere, DSTV use to show it but they stopped even long before Ukraine war.

Ever since I began Livestream I have access to RT news, I have access to all live sports for free, I stream blockbuster movies and even old movies from yesteryears.

Sometimes I wonder why it took me so long to discover this. At this point, I don't care how much I spend on data, (currently I do the airtel monthly 20k unlimited data subscription), as long as I have access to what I enjoy to watch. I will stick with streaming.
Lol. I used to watch RT and Al Jazeera too much too. Even Press TV until I realised they are all the same or worse. Now I watch all. Don't let these guys confuse you.

Al Jazeera has semblance of objectivity but they are pro-Qatar, pro-Shia, anti-Isreal and the same thing goes for Press TV though at a worse level. CNN is pro-Isreal, pro-Usa, anti-Russia and the same goes for Fox News only that while Fox is Pro-Republicans, CNN is Pro- democrats.

DwTv, France24 and SkyNews are the most objective you will find. DW is more into documentary and not really as in-depth as Aljazeera, CNN or even SkyNews.

The most ridiculous for me is RT. They call every channel bad but they can't even criticise anything in Russia. Not even the president. It's too much propaganda for anyone to handle. It doesn't have the maturity or tact of Al Jazeera or CGTN or even the ridiculousness of CNN.

So, RT is lying to you. If you really want something fair you either watch all of them or try France24 and SkyNews. I would have recommended Al Jazeera but they are only fair if there's no Qatari interest in the subject matter.

unless you have unlimited data, using a smart TV for watching content is useless... and might as well stay with DSTV.

if you do have unlimited data, you can easily get an IPTV app on your smart TV and watch channels/movies/series/sport etc from all over the world.

I have been using IPTV now for the past 2 years... It's the best thing since the time of popcorn

both sides dishes out propaganda. No doubt, but I'm more convenient listening to the propaganda of the middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia rather than then hypocritical west.

You think the east doesn't show hypocrisy? You think if they were in America's place they wouldn't do worse things?

America is definitely flawed, absolutely, but I wouldn't want to live under a world hegemon that is autocratic.

As much I feel a dictatorial regime can be beneficial if the leader is benevolent and it may just be what some countries need currently to move forward, a lack of dissenting voices is not too good for human development. No one knows it all.

You can roll over your data depending on the internet provider. I am using SPECTRANET and I haven't regretted dumping my DSTV
wonder233:
So, at the heart of the matter is cost... and utilization:
So, with Dstv, you subscribe monthly, at say, 12,500 or 15,700 for compact, but you hardly stay at home to watch, besides, they have old movies, but sole rights to some key programs like football, reality shows, etc.

On the other hand, with smart TV, you have to subscribe to the apps - Netflix, showmax, prime, etc, say 6,000, then get unlimited monthly data for about 25,000., which, like. Dstv, requires monthly subscription irrespective of usage...

For me, I think, its still cost effective to stick with Dstv, in addition to data subscription on your phone (which is inevitable). This, you can use.for Netflix and co on your mobile when you can.

Truth is that people do not watch these channels to decide for themselves. They decide the truth and then may try to watch it once it a blue moon to confirm their bias.

Are you kidding me? "They hardly interfere in other lesser countries." Like, are you for real.

Interference is not until you put military boots on the ground.

Nigeria, as regionalised as our power is, tries to influence or lord itself over its West African counterpart. That's what make you a regional hegemon. It's the stuff of international politics.

You try to bend others to do your bidding. This brings positive outcomes that helps make you climbs up the geopolitical ladder or help maintain your hegemony.

Wion is typically anti-china and anti-pakistan for obvious reason (it's an Indian establishment). They like to talk about the bad in China and co, but I'm waiting for when they will talk about their own caste system, the excesses of the Modi government, etc.

Wion tries to delicately walk the fine line between being Pro- and anti- Russian in the current Russian-Ukrainian war. It's not an easy thing to do sha considering historically warm Indian-Russian relations. Russian provided some serious help to India in the past. Look it up.

The most ridiculous channel among these big boys for me is RT. Their propaganda is so weird, strange and opinionated that I watch it just for laughs. Imagine a channel that can't critique itself in any form talking about objectivity.

CGTN would have been like that but they don't carry the holier than thou attitude of RT or even continuously dish out top level Chinese propaganda. I just hope FirstPost and Wion do not end up like RT.

The most objective for me, even though every channel still has a doze of bias, is France24. Nobody is safe from criticism. Not the president, not Israel, USA, Russia, china, not even France.

They once ran a documentary on how France enslaved Africa something no state sponsored channel will dare try. A documentary that puts them in bad light.

The problem is that people love to categorize western media as a single entity with a single ideology when it's obvious that BBC, the Washington Post and TRT World (western and eastern) are anti-Isreal.

Yes! i meant interferences in terms of going all the way to instigate a regime change in less developed countries. This, the US has done in many countries of the world. That is the main reason the US is now an enemy of Iran.
