*YOU WANT TO SURVIVE IN LAGOS: 17 Things you must not do* .

Preamble: Lagos is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities, with people from various parts of Nigeria and other countries residing in the city. The city has a vibrant music and art scene, and its streets are filled with colorful markets and bustling shops. The city is also home to several historic sites and landmarks, including the National Museum Lagos, Lagos Island, and the Slave Trade Monument.

Lagos is a bustling city located in the southwestern region of Nigeria, in West Africa. With a population of over 20 million people, it is the most populous city on the African continent and one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. Lagos is known for its vibrant energy, rich cultural heritage, and dynamic economy.

But: Despite its many positive attributes, Lagos faces several challenges, including traffic congestion, inadequate infrastructure, and high levels of poverty. However, the city's resilience and entrepreneurial spirit have enabled it to thrive and grow, making it one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in Africa.

1. On a bus, When you sit by the window. Never operate your phone, It will be snatched from your hand. This is a quintessential occurence in some surbuban parts of Lagos such as Agege and Mushin. In fact, anywhere in Lagos.

2. Whenever someone greets you on the road, Do not answer him or her especially when he approaches you from behind.

3. If you see people fighting, Mind your business!!. I repeat MIND YOUR BUSINESS!!

4. You must learn how to argue with a bus conductor, when he tries cheating you.
And please whenever you do. Please don't use Standard English. You must have had a good knowledge of Pidgin before you come to Lagos. If not I can teach you.

5. Walk with a known Nigerian, on the first weeks of your stay in Lagos. He'll show you the ropes or else you go suffer.

6. Whenever you're walking in a deserted area in Lagos. Walk like a gangster, not like a responsible person. If you do, Miscreants will feel you're defensive and wouldn't come close to you. Street sense ✌

7. Anything you did not find on your head, Please don't pick it. (You understand what I mean).

8. When you're crossing the road. Turn into a Ronaldo. Cars come in massive droves. They won't hit you but you must learn how to dribble them.

9. When you want to buy soft drinks, Buy soft drinks from people hawking in the traffic. It is believed that the drinks taste sweeter than the ones bought from people in shops😅. Just a belief!!

10. When you see a large number of people running, don't wait or ask questions. Just run with them. RUN RUN RUN!!! Ask when it is safe!! Run o

11. Never leave Lagos without taking a ride on Third Mainland Bridge. It is a sin😅

12. Don't dance to any music you hear, never stare or laugh at people. Don't speak to anyone in the bus until they speak to you first.

13. Whenever you walk in a crowded area, hold your phone firmly in your hand, not in your bag or pocket or else Sope oti lo.

14. Whenever you want to ask for Directions, say this. "Sorry, Please, Excuse me...then ask your question". It is compulsory to say all of them. Don't omit any. Everybody is angry in Nigeria.

15. It's often said that the number of people who are mentally normal in Lagos aren't up to 5. In essence, If a Lagosian teases you, don't take him serious. Just be cool to prevent issues. We're mad in this Lagos!!. I am the only normal person in my area.

16. There's one popular "Den of scammers" in Lagos called Computer Village. It is the most popular place for buying and repairing electronic devices. But please and please open your eyes very well before you buy fufu package in a phone case or buy a swapped electronics.

17. And lastly LAGOS is a comedy centre, you will love the drama you will be seeing around.

Lagos, Its mix of tradition and modernity, combined with its rich culture and entrepreneurial spirit, makes it an exciting and attractive destination for people from all over the world. Lagos is very very fun and sweet once you understand the system. It's not a bad place to be, it's just a place to be SMART and WISE!!

EKO ILE OGBON!!!

i came to Lagos since 2018, and my advice to newcomers is to avoid Computer Village at all cost, I repeat avoid it.
2. You can get to any destination in lagos from Oshodi, inshort if you miss road, just find a way to Oshodi
3. Lagos has many slums and ghettos, be careful when moving in those areas
4. Try and learn basic yoruba it will help a lot
5. For the men- Leave women alone, most ladies are hustlers, cost of womanizing is expensive especially if you are living in the island like me.
6. Dont insult Tinubu or Apc in an open place... to avoid wahala
I can add more but let me stop here

Please with how Nigeria is at the moment, is that how Lagos was built?

I remember Lagos was the capital of Nigeria but some people said someone built Lagos

The person is currently building Nigeria (backwards though)

I don't like Lagos for anything. Overcrowded, smelling gutters, agberos, poor road networks.

The only Pro is the opportunities it presents. And maybe the diversity in culture and people.

Maybe thr highbrow areas are better, but my experience in the island wasn't that great.

You see that number 2.

99% of people who greet you from behind are greeting you to beg for money. What to do is once you turn back to look at them and their face isn't familiar, just face front and continue walking.

No 6, I can relate with that. I remember when I went to write entrance exam in Uniben years back and still came back to Lagos the same day. I got to Lagos around 12 midnight, got to Cele bus stop and everywhere was dark and deserted. I had no choice than to trek the lonely road to Ago Palace. Cele was very rugged that time. Man gat to think smart quick quick. I removed my shirt and placed it on my shoulder and raised on leg of my trousers. I was walking like werey on the road without fear. Some guys even shine torch on my face, saw me and just looked away after seeing my physical appearance. They must have thought I’m homeless. That was how I walked all the way to my house o around 1am for night.

1. Don't fight with a Yoruba person even if u are right. They will scream at the top of their voices so their fellow Yoruba can come and support them. Be firm but don't fight.

2.

You are running without knowing why they are running? That's how many people died when Ikeja cantoment exploded. 600 people drowned because they didn't know exactly what exploded.
