begging is a trade to them.
between 2009 and 2014, there was this guy Jabulani in Futa then. He was a tax collector (cooperate beggar) he approached me that day and I gave him 200 naira but later in the evening when I saw him at Mandate ( one popular eatery in futa south gate), I could not even afford what this guy was eating. I was disappointed that day because I felt scammed.
So back to what I said earlier, begging is a lucrative business to some of this people. They are in one or two cooperatives, doing daily contributions and all.

So you confirm it's not only abokis and Muslims are beggars. --interesting.
yeah in every place you go and every religion there is a bigger among them but there are beggars who would want a change of status and there are beggers that would rather remain a begger by voting in useless leaders thereby inflicting more pains on themselves.,how can a sane mind believe Bihari or tinubu have anything to offer.,Bihari failed in the 80’s yet Yoruba people voted him again In This new millennium.,tinubu failed as a governor of Lagos state yet you guys believe someone like that can take care of Nigeria.,if Bihari or tinubu still come back this people will still vote them so why will I pity them.,even if the money tear into two I will rather throw it in the latrine,me before I give help to anyone I first ask for your tribe then your religion.,you must go thru screening before I help you.,I can never help a Yoruba Muslim or an aboki.period

Islam forbids begging as the main source of income!

So i may give them food but will never encourage them in begging!

Begging is permitted only when someone is stricken by poverty or calamity or where one is indebted when trying to reconcile two people!

I once saw beggars sorting/counting their beggings after they finished praying in the mosque!
Even you wey dey work fit no make such cash per hour!

In all, don't abuse them! If you have something to spare give!
If you don't have just mind your business!

And if you detect fraud report them!

Jor shey you know Islam more than your people from the North North in babiallah asiri abo business or you know Islam more than your alfas and imams begging for owo kika kurani, owo ope and owo utuba?

I once lived in Kano so I know these people, they are just in South to hustle but have more than enough at their local places

You guys exaggerate these stories. I have stayed in the North. The level of poverty experienced there is worse than what obtains in parts of Sudan and Somalia.

Poverty in the North does not come near what we call poverty down south. When they tagged poverty capital, it was Northern Nigeria they had in mind.

This street begging seems like a cultural thing and if we notice, a major part of the North borrowed their culture from the Arabs in the Middle East. Go to Jeruslem, the beggars on the street are arabs. You can't see a jew beggar.

Well said.

I remember this begger at oshodi those days who owned 2 storey buildings in different parts of lagos and was a big time customer of Zenith Bank...a begger.

For most of them, it's a profession...not that they lack.

Abi is OP one of them?

Cos I don't understand this his campaign...market no dey like before

Can't you see the economy?

OP should be one of them trying to defend his people by kind of having sympathy for them

I don't know about your area. The harsh economic situation in Nigeria has pushed many within my locality into corporate street begging. This is because beggars eat 3 to 5 square meal with excess remaining from the donations of various charity organizations and kindhearted individuals. people with disabilities are now money making machines for some individuals who displayed them along the road and streets, begging for alms.

Lol.
Less than 5% of Nigerians have up to a million in their bank account.
You can't have a million in your account then choose to sit on the road to beg even if you're cursed

Those beggars that have houses and still begging are they also cursed?

Easterners and westerners kill for no reason too.

Ritual killings and cultism is a pandemic down south too.

But talk about overall, Northerners are the best humans in Nigeria.

I am aware of the ongoing hardship in our land, but these are people who are incapacitated in almost all ramifications of living

Please, endeavour to do so, your pot of oil will never run dry.

This is PORT HARCOURT CITY, and not a Northern part Nigeria, as some of the posters below are insinuating

I see them. Next presidential election, they will still support the same APC which made Nigeria become the POVERTY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD AND THE MOST TERRORISED COUNTRY ON EARTH.

here in the California, a beggar asked me for money when I just arrived from Nigeria at a BUS stop when I was waiting for a bus and I had $20 and $1 only -- $20 to get food and $1 to put in the ticket slot in the bus. So I could not part with any - Another man gave the beggar $2, immediately the beggar rolled down his socks under his trousers - brought a wad of $$$ - in my estimation that was up to $500, he added the $2 he just collected to it, put it back in the socks, rolled it up - and went to the very next man to ask for help - of course the next man said no- we all looked at ourselves in disbelief and the man who gave that $2 to the beggar felt duped... grin as the beggar walked away grin

Do you see British people on the streets begging? Britain is a developed country.
That's the level of development the essterners in Nigeria want to achieve in a country they belong to. But because of crude oil and gas deposits in the Niger delta region, you get easterners trapped in one Nigeria with your sort.
