Thank goodness you admitted you didn't watch the match so I understand where this post is borne out from.

Now, if Southgate was influenced by the media, Saka would have played Lb or Lwb not even rwb/rb ystdy cos Trippier was the target (as media are clamouring for) but no, none of such happened.

Also, same Trippier still played and same 1st 11 still played (aside Konsa which came in for suspended guehi).

So, What does that tell you?

It just simply tells you that Southgate just changed structure to the team cos they've been v.poor for 4 straight matches. It was an obvious thing to do.

Below is Saka heat map and if you watch the match ystdy, you'll never agree that he played rwb ystdy (cos obviously he didn't). The heat map here gave further credence to it.

The structure England played ystdy freed up Saka and it's no wonder he gave his best performance yet in this Euros. I expect Southgate to continue with this formation

All those their clamour for Palmer into the starting 11 and Trippier to be dropped for Saka to play Lb/Lwb will now be effectively shut down.

Anybody watching England's game knows that Trippier was never the big issue but structure. But because they want shiny new toy (Palmer to play) and Saka to play Lb (because they he played there his breakthrough season), they just believe that's the cheap problem neglecting the bigger issue at hand.
Then why has it taken Southgate this long to adjust? In the previous match, he actually moved Saka to LB remember? Where did that idea came from?. Don't tell me they're searching desperately for goals o because there are alternative adjustments he could have made but decided to go for what the whole media was saying.

[b]Don't tell me they're searching desperately for goals o because there are alternative adjustments he could have made but decided to go for what the whole media was saying
.

1. First bolded: The reason why it took him long to adjust was because that formation was what they've been working on since. In fact, according to either telegraph or the athletic I read from, it was strictly that 4 atb they've been working on with Trippier/Shaw at Lb while Arnold in midfield. From what I read, seems there was no plan B hence Southgate was just forcing it while changing personnels(from Arnold to Gallagher to finally Mainoo). When it reached Slovakia match (after 4 matches) and it's still not working he just had to change it. If he had plan B, he would have adjusted since especially the 3rd match(against Slovenia).

2. Second bolded: Desperate times requires desperate measure. They're losing and they're on the verge of elimination unlike group stages where a draw they've been having is all good.

What do you expect Southgate to do, remove attackers for another attacker OR try to put in more attackers to his previous attackers for more fire power?
Most coach will do the latter in that situation.

If you are the one, what would you have done differently? I would really love your response

So you mean they used weeks to practise that exact formation and personnel only to almost crash out with the same formation? Southgate na better otu sha.

There are many options to make in that moment but moving one of your best attackers to LB, a position he has not played for 3 years now in that crucial moment. Come on, that's not something Southgate would do on his own. To think he made the exact substitution by bringing on Palmer should tell you something. He could have moved Foden to RW and bring in Gordon. But because the media says Saka to LB and Palmer to RW. He had to follow the same step.

Lol, yeah, they've been solely working on that formation oo. The 3 atb they did against Switzerland was what they even worked on newly in their last two training sessions against Switzerland. Before then, they've not tried it in preparation for this Euros.

He brought in Palmer, brought in Eze and brought in Toney. He still left Kane and Saka, Bellingham and Rice.

So with an attack of Kane, Toney, Saka, Palmer, Eze, Rice and Bellingham. You don't think one of this attackers will be withdrawn back albeit still showing attacking class?
And who better than Saka amongst all of them?

Did you know that when England was winning in that same Slovakia match, Saka was shifted back to his right wing towards the end of the match? (with Palmer at Lw) ie when Kane was withdrawn.

🔴⚪️ Riccardo Calafiori’s currently only waiting for Arsenal after personal terms agreed, it’s his clear favorite destination.

No talks taking place with PSG, Bayer Leverkusen or Chelsea.

It still won't change the fact that, if they escape to euro final, lamine or Nico will score the only goal cheesy

We need to assess him during preseason 1st. Even if Zinny and Tomi should leave, (tho I will not be happy to see Tomi leaves) Let's not forget that Timber is fit and back too. Nuno Tavares also said he is coming to fight for a spot during pre season... Tierney don use injury limit his chances of coming back... Ultimately Arteta will decide sa.. but make we siddon look during preseason 1st.

I feel Cala signing is just to provide a deputy for Gabi to avoid burn ou, remember he’s the only reliable LCB we have and as for unsurping Big Gabi, I don’t see that happening cause of the partnership between him and SaliBABA, well Arteta and Edu knows best.

I’m only expecting a Saka deputy and a midfielder cause I’m sure we’re not getting a striker anytime soon

Ahh, with so many things Tavarez have said while on loan, I doubt he'll be back into this squad oo. I believe we'll sell him sha but it depends on how much profit we can gather.

Well, that Lb situation is dicey like you said, let's see how it'll pan out.

But my thoughts is, if we don't sell Kiwi, then Kiwior might play Gabu deputy, Cala or Timber at left back(depending on Who's favored) while Tomi will be a back up for White. Zinny seeing the look of things might be sold into the season (before transfer ends).

That's my view with Cala signing
