Over twenty years ago I read an article by Pele in which he reminisced about being childhood friends with a little blonde girl at primary school - only for the girl's father to publicly and harshly rebuke her for wasting her future by playing with 'o neguinhos'. Things got worse for him as he grew older, despite fnding fame and fortune on the football pitch. He gave a few interviews about this before he passed away.

As you can see, the issues are very complex.
