Wahala
I've NEVER EVER in my entire life seen a government as clueless and indecisive as this current APC government. So they have turned policy making to a town hall affair where people can shout "yay" or "nay". These people obviously don't have any plans for the country. They should just resign already.

They'll say one thing, in the next breath, say another thing. Their principal, Baba Bulaba, started this stupid practice when he screamed "subsidy is gone" without thinking it through. That careless statement is biting us in the ass now.

By the way, 18 years benchmark is STUPID!!! In SANER CLIMES, 21 year olds have an msc and PhD but here, a 21 year old is still writing jamb exams. Pathetic.

Btw, where has Seun been? He opened one stake thread, promising to answer questions about his relationship with Jarus but he has not answered a single question. Sad. More active on Twitter, displaying his bulaba side.

Some of you, we just come online and be writing rubbish. Is it d APC that establish 6 3 3 4 and do you know what the law say. Have u ever see any European going against the law. Each country has their law and if u want 5 years to be in university then you amend the law.

I finished secondary school those days when education was top notch in Nigeria before I turned 16 - but I made a lot of terrible decisions with my life for a while because I lacked the maturity of the academic level I found myself - all these madness we see in universities these days is because kids lacking maturity were admitted into school before they can figure out what life is all about - IF I have my way, nobody will be admitted into any university in Nigeria without having a vocational skill and proof of earning with that skill for at least 1 year pre-admission.

So what should those leaving school at 15/16 do? Are they to stay at home for another 2-3 years?

University admission age globally is 16 years
, why does this government like retrogressive ideas so much? 🤔

That's a lie

I felel the time has come for Northerners to permanently seize to be Ministers of Education. What kind of retrogressive law is this for goodness sake? angry I'm so angry like WTF is this na. Developed countries are celebrating smart children who graduated from their universities at age 17 or 18, our own Minister of Retrogressive Education wants all Nigerian students to enter University at age 18. This kind of mentality is the reason why they are all comfortable with their states being called Educationally Disadvantaged because they are not ready not move at the same pace with the rest of the developed world. angry Tinubu should use his position as President to reverse this stupid law please.
Smart Nations like Japan and China are not ....Every child must develop skills am not talking about the rote system of writing examinations here am talking about problem solving skills ....if you're are graduating at 10yrs old and can't apply what you know to solve problems it's of no use ...what can a 10yrs know about soft skills like communication Hunan relations he or she has to develop to full adult in certain situations to cope with the realities of Life

If u had finished at 18 you would still have made the same mistakes. Uni days are heady for every one young or old. I met people in their 20s in school and I graduated and left them, and most left without a degree.
It's not the age that makes or breaks u. It's the grit in u that builds or destroys u

I am a lawyer and I know that you can't agree to circumvent or suspend or waive a law. It's not within the powers of the minister who is a SAN to said ok the law starts next year.

My son who scored 330 in JAMB couldn't gain admission last year because he was 15 years 11 months and 3 weeks and considered under age and below 16 years. He wrote JAMB again this year and got 345 and intends to study medicine. Please who can arrange better thunder for me and send it to this Olodo person calling himself minister of education.

They didn't bow to any pressure.. Thier target was 16years but they know from the get go that there will be resistance so they opt for 18 years first and then reduce it to thier target to make you guys happy... cheesy

Wetin this one dey write self? angry Where is your data to backup this claim? What of 16 year-olds who go to Universities close to their homes? A 16 year old living in Yaba can go to Unilag everyday from home without having to rent a hostel.

These same smart nations introduce their 7 year olds to programming and robotics. Why didn't they wait for the child to get to 18 beforg training the child on Robotics? How does admitting students at age 18 improve our standard of education? Have you not seen 28 year old Nigerian Mechanical Engineering graduates that can't fix small generator talkless of cars? I ask again, how does this new law improve our standard of education?
That's exactly what I am talking about ...if you can be certified skillful in an area fine but in Nigeria Children spend their life going to school, doing assigment, watching T.V and internet reading and writing exams ....Even Elon Musk have criticized the University System ....

In the US, you cannot apply to write the LSAT (Law School Aptitude Test) t o gain admission to study Law if you do not have a 4 year degree- Meanwhile, In Nigeria, anyone, fresh from one secondary school - "barely able to clean their anus in terms of reasoning and life experience" will write WAEC and JAMB in "miracle centers" and baam! - they are reading Law or Medicine in a University. In America, you can not read Medicine without, first, having a degree in one of the natural sciences like BCH (BioChem) MCB (MicroBiology) or even Pure and Applied Chemistry. Even for regular degrees like (Business Admin, Political Science, Philosophy or even Finance) most times - most schools prefer you get your 2 year Associate Diploma (what we call OND) from a Community College before applying for a degree program so they can evaluate your ability to cope with the University degree program -

Naija always finds a way to bastardize and make chaotic - things done with integrity and orderliness in other climes -------> why the rush to graduate kids from Universities when they may be book smart but lacking emotional intelligence required for a balanced University education?

Why not enrol that kid in vocational education to spend that age 16 - 18 learning a life skill so when they get to the university- they can be earning a living with their new skill and sustaining themselves while in school to reduce the financial pressure on their parents ? What is the need of graduating at age 19, serve at age 20 and becomes miserably unemployed - doing yahoo yahoo and hook up from age 21 to 40? rabbissshhh!!!! angry
We have 60-80 year Olds who run this country and lack any sort of emotional intelligence. Let the books smart kids go to school at 16 if they meet the requirements. There's a place for trades in every society, it doesn't mean every kid should learn a trade.

Any child that finishes his or her secondary school early, should go and learn a skill within that year before they turn 18.

Well you are right about that maturity. When I entered Uni, I was so small and I think one of the youngest in the whole faculty. It usually affect self esteem at some point but I blended well in the second semester coz I know a lot of people, I sabi book then with first class GPA in first semester (So people dey famz me), and I was an artist who roll with people that sing on campus.

I will not say entering at a young age affected my life wrongly. This thing about life is that, even for same circumstance, we might get different result coz life is just like a dice.

I like the bolded too. Vacational skills should be preached.

and who told you vocational education is not education ? what is education to you ? cramming and regurgitating dense texts in a book for exam purposes? this is the problem with Nigeria - we do not see the picture and even when we do- we have this penchant to ignore it.

Come to the US and other developed societies, with you Bsc and Msc - your Boss on that job is just a GED or WAEC (equivalent holder) He becomes your Boss because he has on the job experience that you do not have and he is a team player - no big emphasis is placed on degrees or certificates which they see as just a receipt that you payed to attend a class to cram dense text to regurgitate for 4 years - you get it?

Oh. Why don't you tell me GED holders are the major ones innovating in Fortune 500 companies and also holding top management positions?
You think we're all village people with no exposure, abi?
And where did I say vocational education is not education.
Hope you're not comparing the almost disorganised vocational training we have here with structured systems in the west?
