In the last one month, easily one of the most discussed issues in Nigeria is the allegation by the Dangote Refinery accusing the International Oil Companies (IOCs) of frustrating its operations by refusing to sell crude to it. A few options are available to Dangote but the most viable of them is that he should consider divesting some of his shares in the refinery. It may seem a difficult option but it is the best for him given the circumstances. Very insightful article. Thank you for sharing OP. I believe that he can sell some of the shares and buy back those sold shares when the refinery becomes operationally stable and profitable like he did with his Dangote Cement Plc listed on Nigeria Stock Exchange. His Dangote Cement ( DangCem) has been doing share buy back for some years till date. May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs! 67 Likes 5 Shares

I am not a fan of Dangote, due to the manner he deceived Nigerians concerning cement pricing after starting operations at his Obajana factory. However, is Dangote’s monopoly not a hundred times better than importation of products which raw material was exported from Nigeria? The people, in whose interest the subsidy regime must be sustained, no go gree for anybody! 46 Likes 3 Shares |

Dangote is and was never a monopolists but it's corruption that paint him that color because a lot of Nigerian politicians have high stakes in Dangote investments hence they will prevent any other biz that will stand there way. I think this is the right time for PBAT to support Dangote refinery and let him sell us PMS within 400-500 NGN, the removed subsidy should be diverted to the support of local refineries. Finally NNPCL should be privatized and have all it board changed and see how economy begins to gain momentum. 13 Likes |

Nigerians are wiser and no sensible Nigerian will read this and not get angry at ewedu munchers. Crappy epistle from an ewedu muncher who by extension is a yaribandit and iragbiji fraud's slave. The hunger that's dealing with Tunde, Segun and Olaniyi is under reported. Ipobidients are the only ones crying out. Check my signature for more updates 28 Likes 2 Shares |

NEVER. people like Dangote are never quitters. the worst is to stay idle till the next administration. check the man is not requesting for cheaper crude rather he wants to pay fully minus the bureucratic middlemen in the supply chain. the only thing he wants is continous supply which he can have from the international scene. as for customers he will never lack that even if nigeria refuse to patronise his products there is an always available demand for hydrocabons worldwide 14 Likes 1 Share |

Dangote being a brutal capitalist aside, NNPC is just a cesspit of corruption. Tinubu will show Nigerians that he means well for the country if he fires the entire first (C-Suite) and second level management team of NNPC and order for their investigation as well. That is one of the things that can be done to redeem the current socio-economic quagmire 13 Likes 1 Share |

Wisdomkosi: I do agree with this part. I also think NNPC should be sold to us Nigerians too. And no, I don't mean to the rich and wealthy alone. Say like 10% of the shares should be allocated to every living Nigerian with provision we can't sell for 10 years. Our vested interest might make us force NNPC to operate better. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

The ones that removed subsidy and are paying the same subsidy to their companies in Malta and bringing dirty fuel into Nigeria are the biggest monopolistic. Dangote and the other recent investigation have exposed them. Their people defending them do no even partake in the loot. Everything to them is about stealing, grabbing and running away with what belongs to the people. 16 Likes 1 Share |

The PR of Dangote did magic on Nigerians and it made them see him as a saviour that he is not. Dangote doesn't thrive in a competitive environment or he whine and complain. It is either a large percentage of the share market in supply chain or he goes straight to the government to leverage his stand. He is a tactical monopolist that cornered cement price. He did that to sugar as well. But his dooms day is oil, which is the lifeline of Nigerians since existence because aboki love oil so much. Tell me, how many people can afford cement today despite the large production. Dangote is a wicked one and people doesn't even know him 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Dangote a monopolists..... Who made our refineries not to work? Who was paying the staff despite the refineries not working? Nedoill , Aradel and BUA are now building refineries yet you called him a monopolist. If your government is serious about the welfare of the masses why our refineries not working.? Government have the sole power to build and control the refineries but because of their selfish desires they will never work in that direction 16 Likes |

The government has four refineries that aren’t working despite consuming over $40 billion in maintenance costs between 1999-2024. More than twice the amount Dangote used to set up his refinery. But Dangote is the monopolist. Yeah right… 9 Likes

The word "MONOPOLY" seems to be the most misunderstood word in nigeria. Dangote saw a very good opportunity and invested heavily on it and now it's time to start cashing out and now the bad bele people dey shout monopoly up n down. BUA is completing his own refinery too in 2026. Who stops anybody from building refinery? If u have your money, go and build a refinery nobody is stopping anybody. 3 Likes |

This is absolute nonsense, you can't be encouraging importation and calling it end of monopoly for a man who has giving the country what our government has not been able to give us. I will take it to be a fight against Dangote monopoly if this is between Dangote and local refineries. Make our refineries work and if that is not enough, encourage more private individuals to venture into refining crude oil in Nigeria, anything short of this is a selfish agenda. 9 Likes |

Nigerians won't be deceived. This is a battle for supremacy between two Oligarchs. If the federal government is fighting so-called Dangote monopoly, there are better ways to fight monopoly than to insist on importation. The same federal government has four refineries that it has refused to make work. Yet Nigeria must continue importing. Well Nigerians now know who his head of the Nigerian government, who owns Agip and what is happening in Malta. Nigerians won't be fooled. Enough is enough. 2 Likes |

I don't trust any of the parties. I admire Dangote a lot but Baba is just fighting for his own interest. Dangote has not helped my life or the life of an average Nigerian in anyway. He should stop sounding like he is doing the Nigerian populace a favour. That statement he made about his friend advising him not to invest in Nigeria infuriates me till today. Dangote of all people, he is one of the biggest beneficiaries in this Nigeria. Nigeria has favoured Dangote more than Nigeria has favoured Nigeria herself. He no favour Baba one time, Baba begin dey use emotional blackmail. All of them should meet and find ways to resolve whatever issues they have. My own is that I want their resolution to benefit average Nigerians. 18 Likes 1 Share |
