Useless Government.
NNPC cannot keep up with the energy demand of Nigerians via import, yet they will not support local refinery to produce these products. Who's the Monopoly here, its still NNPC.
The clueless bastard in Aso Rock is bussy sniffing his coccaine and paying no attention to the real enemies of Nigeria, which are the faceless mafias in NNPC.

Here is the issue

It costs N1300 to bring petrol into the country, yet the Tinubu government insists on making it sell for N700 and less at the filling stations.

And you people expect there to be NO SCARCITY?

If we had removed oil subsidy in 1993, or even 2011...the last best time to have done it...none of this contraindications would have happened.

Over 700 million monthly goes on this abomination , and our debt is rising again. Haba.

So removal of fuel subsidy is the reason why petrol should increase from 145 per liter to 1,300 per litre?

You are probably just working hard to justify your minimum wage PR job, regardless its just a stupid thing to say

I thought no more fuel scarcity once subsidy is gone. Isn't that what some people who have outsourced their thinking said when their master removed subsidy? How many scarcity have we had now since May 29 last year? Scarcity is beginning to look like a monthly thing now. Okay.

Same old nonsense!

Yes, it is nonsense to buy something at N1300 and sell it at N600 and calmly absorb the losses....

Tinubu told us there is no more subsidy, what market cost are u still talking about??

Well, whenever your government lies, you should not fall for it.

When marketers start selling at 1800, price will get to 2800 within 6 months? Fuel was 500 when tinubu removed subsidy, how much is fuel now in less than a year? When Jonathan wanted to remove subsidy it was this very same Tinubu that led the protest, so what nonsense are u saying now?? How many times will Tinubu remove subsidy in less than 1 year? Do u know it is the poor masses not working for govt that are bearing the brunt of these decisions?? Marketers charging petrol at market cost is never the solution & scam! The system is corrupt period!

It's called being realistic. People who make and sell the petrol all want to be paid, and refineries cost a lot of money to maintain and run, plus business loans must be paid back, and more jobs must be created.

Paying subsidy is a big part of why by May 2023, 99% of our revenue was going to debt service. Cost of producing petrol has no respect for the amount bugeted for subsidy. You can budget N2 trillion for subsidy in a year, and in that same year, price of crude goes up by 50% meaning your subsidy costs rise two to fourfold. But you already have a budget...so where does the rest of the money come from

Usually from the health and education and even sporting budget. And government takes a loan to cover things up, and the deficit for next year risies, as does loan servicing.

There is a reason why subsidy removal has been on the lips of several governments since 1980's. It';s not for fun....it is because if we kept fuel at 15 kobo per liter since 1981, subsidy costs would have by now dwarfed our earnings, and budget. Our debt would have been in the trillions of dollars, and we would have been at the mercy of everyone.

But since you want to help the poor by selling fuel at 15 kobo per liter, so be it.

Precisely. At the moment, it costs 700 Milluion naira to pay for subsides. monthly. If fuel had remained at N145, it would have cost over N1.5 billion naira or more monthly to pay for subsdies....at a rate of N1200 PER Liter.

If fuel had stayed at N65...it would be costing N 1300 per liter to subsidse fuel. At fuel consumption of 60 million a day, you do the math....it would make your brain tremble.

Then consider our budget for the year, and you would get why

You are probably just working hard to justify your minimum wage PR job, regardless its just a stupid thing to say

If I was being paid by tinubu, I would be praising him for being so considerate to keep fuel prices low.

A cleaner overseas pays for fuel at market price, and pays for power at market price, that;s why they get it well well

They also pay property tax and council tax to get a good rail and public transport service.

If we did the above in Nigeria, you guys would cry and cry, so we pay cheap, and get cheap....

We under pay for power, and we get bad power, and we underpay for fuel, and get scarcity, and a host of other things and issues.

And we don't earn enough money, and the corruption worsens things, which is why a cleaner cannot make a decent wage.

We live on money meant for a country of less than 10 million...all 260 million of us, and then we wonder why we cannot have good electricity, refineries, and decent wages.

And you still vote for the same APC and PDP, and co.

In as much as your assertion towards d removal of subsidy is spot on, Nigerians cannot afford to pay at the market price of 1800.

It will worsen d inflation rate, America has a current inflation of around 3% and they're complaining

Ours is heading to 40%, if not d fact dat d vast Nigerians, esp the youths are brain dull, they would have hit the street long before August 1st.

Do you know what it is for a country to have an inflation of almost 40% ? That's a galloping inflation.

Any inflation that has gotten to two digits inflation is hell.

Nigerians dey try o, 40% inflation and we are still calm, God forbid lipsrsealed

And for d record, we all know Tinubu removed subsidy, not because he has d masses in mind, but because he wants enough money for him and his cronies to spend.

They're even borrowing to sponsor their lavish lifestyle undecided

Yeah I get you, but assuming GEJ Had listened to the ojota people, and returned fuel to N65, back when we were spending N34 per liter as subsidy, and the price remained N65 to date, our subsidy cost would have risen from N34 per liter to N1300 per liter

You can see the effect it would have on our budget, and by extension our debt. Maintaing fuel at N195 was by May last year costing us 99% of our revenue in servicing

Agreed, e go stressful with subsidy removal in totality, but keeping subsidy is another way to economic disaster.

Why I prefer total subsidy removal is that it is the least worst of two worst options. ....it guarantees some more domestic refining, savings of forex, earning more forex, and crucially more jobs and investment. Keeping subsidy just makes things worse as removing it...without those added benefits.

SO said you.

That he should return things back to N65.

Tinubu was wrong then , and as you see by the time he came in and said subsidy was gone...it was a manifestation of karma biting him in the back very well

Had he realized the sense in removing subsidy in 2012, by now he would be reaping the benefits. But he wanted power, as did his master Buhari, and here we are, making a decision or contemplating thereof...that should have been made in 2011, or even as far back as 1993, or even 1987.

The debts you are talking about,is the money not in their pockets? Was the borrowing for the development of the nation? We export crude to be refined and returned back to us when we have refineries abandoned for their selfish gain

We are in debts for the simple reason that we are a dutch diseased economy.

This was elaborated in the article Pass the books hold the oil

For Nigeria to rely on oil and have no issues, oil prices have to be consistently without break, above 110 dollars per barrel. It never goes that high, so we have to borrow or else...

Also, subsidy causes severe deficit.....if you are Presidnet and you budget N5 trillion for subsidy for the year 2025, at oil price of say 80 dollars per barrel, and then oil jumps up to 120 dollars per barrel....that increases the cost of making fuel, and thus the subsidy costs....which means you have to take money from other sectors, plus the potential savings you make from high crude prices....to pay for subsidy

THat leaves you with a DEFICIT...which has to be filled with loans, and which leads to increased debt servicing

So, you won't see the benefit of high crude.

That is why GEJ wanted to remove subsides, as did a host of other nigerian leaders. Including subsidy lovers like tinubu...
