Nigeria's Banking Sector: Rights Issue Conundrum The Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) directive for banks to embark on rights issues (RI) has backfired, as investors shun the offerings due to overpricing. Despite aggressive marketing, the RI prices exceed secondary market prices, deterring investors. Compounding the issue, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) introduced a 70% tax on forex gains for 2023-2025, further eroding investor confidence. The Dichotomy of RI Prices and Market Prices: Investors face a dilemma: RI prices are higher than current market prices, making it unattractive to subscribe. The disparity has led to a decline in banking stocks, with prices continuing to drop. To mitigate this, investors should: - Exercise caution when considering RI subscriptions - Monitor market trends and prices - Wait for banks to reassess and adjust RI prices A Call to Action for Banks: To salvage the situation, banks must: - Reassess and adjust RI prices to below current market prices - Engage with investors to rebuild trust - Demonstrate transparency and responsiveness to market dynamics The rights issue conundrum in Nigeria's banking sector demands prompt attention. Banks must acknowledge the misstep and take corrective measures to restore investor confidence. By adjusting RI prices and engaging with investors, banks can mitigate the downward trend in share prices and ensure a more successful rights issue. Investors, in turn, must remain vigilant and informed to navigate this challenging landscape. 1 Like |

Testimonies777: "In assessing your level of investment journey and collective goal, study your PERSONALITY during an uptrend and the PSYCHOLOGY of market players when prices are going down. ...doing the reverse is probably why there are more participants who suffer insomnia than there are winners in the stock market." ~Sinclair Attack? Not at all. ...not me! Any open-minded fellow will agree that it's better to ignore and not bother to engage with that dude. Smacks off the impression of been engrossed with everything Onegentleguy. ...otherwise, which right thinking person would pick out a word (insomnia) from one of the NUGGET I wrote nearly 3 years ago, at a time am certain i've never heard about their ID, and claim the said word was personally directed at them. Then there's the preposterous claim that Onegentleguy works to silence some persons. ...it's really very very funny! I read the part of his post to de-market Onegentleguy and I smiled. This things will only make us even more popular. What some people don't know is that when Divine is with you and favours you, every opposing force and everything else becomes inconsequential... for as long as one is living and leading a responsible/worthy life and working with honesty and sincerity of purpose, nothing else matters! I hope the dude can move on and focus on growing in the financial markets. One would've thought that his magnificent 7 investing strategy would keep him very busy. What a world we live in!
