Any state unable to pay the 70k should file for bankruptcy so they can be absorbed into adjoining states as local govts.

Oga, calm down, do you expect teachers and health workers or nominal civil servants to generate revenue?

The governor might have a point. But he needs to be transparent with the earnings of the state vs the number of workforce
what are you even saying? Don't you pay for the services rendered to you by those government institutions? Where do those money go to? Most of this monies ends up in the pockets of those workers instead of government account, Nigeria is broke as it is now so every government institution should be productive if we truly want to grow the economy

The whole minimum wage thing is baffling. Why must every single state adopt a uniform salary rate in a country which is supposed to be practicing Federalism? Why have a uniform wage structure as if we are a unitary state?

Does the daily expenses of a Civil Servant in Victoria Island or Banana Island equate with that of a local government clerk in Talata Marafa Local Government Area of Zamfara State?

That's the problem with this country. It is run by unintelligent people who in a decent society are not even qualified to clean toilets.

it said minimum. If lagos state can pay
100k as minimum, so be it. They do not have to pay the same

What is the policy dat will make life better?
Obiedun:
No. States are not equally endowed, not equally populated and not collecting the same from federation account. Companies too are not equally rich. Ask how much teachers working in some private schools are earning. To me minimum wage is useless. What we need is a policy that we make life better for all. States and privates establishments will pay what they can afford.

Most of our problems in Nigeria come from the State Governors who came into office cap in hand waiting for monthly FAAC allocations without any meaningful input or effort at IGR.

They simply can't think outside the box on how to generate revenue internally.

Without monthly Federal allocations, most of these States would practically cease to function.

These were States created to satisfy political interests and not because of their economic viability.

Expect more shameful responses from others who could be rightly described as "Parasitic States of Nigeria (PSN)".

If you can't pay 70k you have no business occupying office of governor.

You should have listened to your own advice before spewing nonsense. It was negotiated on behalf of all civil servants across federal, state and local levels. They also involved the private sector and for reasons known to those ones, they decided to stupidly tag along.

Kukutente23:

It's called minimum wage not uniform wage. Edo for example was paying 40k when FG was paying 30k. Same Edo and Lagos have been paying 70k since early this year. It is a baseline for poverty index in a country which is pegged at average of $2 a day spending.
Get yourself properly enlightened.

I’m the tribal one but you’re not tribal for saying Gombe depend on minimum wage.

I’m sure you also don’t believe the nonsense you first claim about Abians not depending on minimum wage. Coz suffering is very evident in Abia and even the civil servants are threatening strike.

Your fellow IPOB illiterates can believe your jargons tho

When a leader is totally bereft of ideas. All they know is Federal allocation and borrowing. No talk about Internally Generated Revenue. Sad 😢

It is called minimum wage for that reason. It is national not federal. A state can decide to go above it. Most banks, telcos and multinationals are above it. Read again. MINIMUM WAGE. It follows the principle of collective bargaining as enshrined by ILO

Lol, before, the governors were shielded from the insult and only Tinubu took the blame of minimum wage.

Now that FG will start paying it, the governor will start receiving their own barrage of insults coz e sure me say 40% of the states won’t be able to pay that 70k.

I am even surprised Gombe is paying 30k, Abia can only muster 18k so Gombe still senior one state.

I don't understand what this people mean by we can not pay 70 thousand naira minimum wage, is it that the institution managed by this workers are unproductive or what? If yes then why run an institution that is not productive? Just for employment sake? The main reason people choose private school over government school today is not because their are no learned teachers in government schools, as a matter of fact their are more qualified teachers in government schools than private, the problem is, this government schools just like any other government institution in the country are not properly managed, most government school teachers only attend classes once or twice in a week, same with headmasters and principals, who will punish the teachers for not attending classes? Is it the principal that's also at home? Or the Education ministry workers that are also at home? The problem of Nigeria is nobody is ready to carry out his duty, majority of the so-called workers that are clamouring for minimum wage increase are not doing their work.
To solve this problems once and forever, any political office holder that is underperforming should be voted out, any voter that collect bribe before casting his or her vote should be giving one hundred strokes of cain, any institution that is not productive should be scrapped and workers that are not performing their duties properly should be laid of.
This is the main thought entering my head when I hear ‘pay salary’ and ‘minimum wage’.
It almost look like our government workers are getting compensation for being Nigerians and not salary for doing an actual result-oriented job.

Yahaya is still running up and down over 82billlion stolen funds, that’s enough to pay workers 8years and even more
