The reason i will rate fall of the house of usher over midnight mass is because fall of the usher is more intensed, proper thriller and deep mystery.

But all the same, midnight mass is a very nice show.

Low budget relative to other fantasy shows like game of Thrones, the witcher etc.

That Rosamund Pike was the biggest name, with her frozen face, was the biggest actor they could pull was just laughable.


People liked season 2 because it has more action. Pacing was ridiculous, the show felt derivative- "chosen one", controlling magic.

Legend of the seeker/Sword of Truth is kind of similar with the Mord Sith and Confessors

5 episodes in...and I give up. It's not for me, it's never going to be for me.

Two lesser known shows that I saw instead
Blue Lights: Northern Ireland TV show, 6 episodes, omo them cut onions for the ending of season 1 oh. Story's about cops in a small area/town and their dealings with the local mob who has the town in a chokehold. 8/10.

Red Lights: British TV show, I actually thought it would be similar with Idris Elba's Hijack but with different actors, but the storyline is different however there was the familiar whodunit with people dropping like flies on the flight from UK to China. 6.5/10

I didn't want to watch this show because of the poor ratings, but after multiple recommendations, I decided to give it a try...

I was told the series didn't have the best writing but was very entertaining and they were absolutely right...
I binged the entire season in 2 nights...that shows how entertaining it was for me...

The show had a lot of plot convenience, some weird events that made no sense like the whole sequence that led to the lion being let loose at the end...

Security in the show too was conveniently lax to enable the plot for the main characters to easily pass through gates...

But one thing the show maintained was being entertaining all through. It was no Game of Thrones, it didn't have complex characters but the actors put in good performances ...

There is not much Historical accuracy too, and the show was often less realistic in how events played out...but despite it all, I was rarely taken out of the plot...

In fact the show has finally convinced me to start looking for other Roman Empire based series...

I am starting ROME tomorrow...
I almost watched ROME many years ago with my entire family but literally one of the first scenes had a very explicit sex scene and we turned it off out of embarrassment...

Since then I never touched it

Just watching Rome and I'm angry I didn't see it sooner. Very good series.

The show is almost satirical in nature when mirroring it side by side with the actual events of the Roman history. Using this lens to see the show, you might enjoy it more.

Exactly as you allude, there are so many plot convenience bend to make the plot progress and they can be easily overlooked and forgiven since the show isn't aiming for the Emmy awards or anything a tad fancy. I actually like how they mesh many plot lines at the beginning and they all just found a common ground as they went along, not the greatest writing but with was more than okay.

And was it just me, or for a show called "Those about to die", the gore was minimal at best, the gladiatorial scenes were few and far between and it was more of Horse/Chariot racing with a lot of political scheming in between. Even the explicit scenes that historical shows are known for where so few that the show could easily passed for a PG-13 show.

I am totally convinced they slapped Anthony Hopkins on there for marketing purposes because believe you, me, that man had absolutely nothing to do with the show 😩.

Good show overall, not great, Just good and easily digestible.

And should they decide to make another season, I will be there.✌🏾
