It's practically impossible to develop accent as an adult, the vocal chords are fully formed by then...those 1 month accent people na acting, but they say having the oynbo accent helps you not stick out like a sore thumb which in turn helps with upward mobility.

I don’t know how true the bold is for foreign language/accent o, but for our own local language/accent I don’t think this ur theory holds true.

I’ve literally watched someone who came to Lagos from deep inside Oyo state with thick Oyo-Yoruba accent lose that accent for Lagos-Yoruba accent .

I was not even told ; within 4 years of being in Lagos the person speaks the Lagos Yoruba we all speak .

INEC is controlled by State Governors grin

As if Buhari didn’t have it in power to appoint a Yoruba professor that will head INEC and make sure everything goes against Tinubu at the polls.

The 2 major deciding factors of any election outcome in Nigeria are INEC and the Judiciary . If u have both favoring u, then u are as good as elected

Egbon no rate us at all grin

The bolded na why Tinubu no send anybody papa. He has both on lockdown.

No be here we dey?

Nigeria is a funny and sad country .

Uche(not real name ) will be siding with Ndume online when he called out Tinubu and APC’s bullshiiit . Uche will be wondering why Musa (not real name ) cannot grow some balls like Ndume and call out the “evil APC “ that has inflicted hunger and poverty on the people .

Few days later Ndume apologizes to APC his party and he’s now back in the APC as one of their ranking senators who will cross ocean to have APC rule till the year 2100 at the federal level .

Now Ndume don stain Uche’s white. All the the “revelations” Ndume made during the spat with the presidency can no longer be used as reference for things not being well at the seat of power .

At the end of the day, this is what happened ; “Ndume whose child works in the central bank of Nigeria apologizes to the president of Nigeria for calling him out in the media for being denied attention to him. “ ….. And they lived happily ever , after . 😴

This is why I said, it is still too early to make conclusions about APC and the North. I mean, look at the timing of his reinstatement and apology, do you think it is a coincidence?

If the presidential election was next year, shebi Ndume will go to the North and campaign for APC. Dangote that was making noise throughout, where is his voice today?

The day Southern Nigeria go get sense, na that day I go get hope say Naija go better.

In other news, there’s fire on the mountain for Dangote o

According to Fitch Ratings, Dangote Group plans to divest 12.75% stake in Dangote Petroleum Refinery over liquidity concerns. In a statement on Monday, Fitch said Dangote Group plans to use the proceeds from the stake sold to service a sizable syndicated loan that matures on August 31, 2024.

This explains why Very Angry Alhaji was in rampage last two weeks or thereabouts

Everyone with perception knew loans are due especially after NNPC pulled their funding, hence Baba is trying to crank the refinery ahead of time to show some cash flows so he can refinance

Accent is pretty much more dependent on neural association and less dependent on physical morphology

You probably pronounce the name, "Bukayo Saka" exactly the same way Peter Drury pronounces it and this is due to reinforcement training from hearing the name pronounced (incorrectly) hundreds of times over the course of 6 seasons.

Some people fake accent (sometimes it is absolutely necessary when speaking to people from certain other nationalities who have a difficult time understanding an unrefined Nigerian accent) but if you hear words pronounced a certain way countless times, you will form different neural pathways for those words. For example, I and my guys speak Pidgin with normal Nigerian accents and Deutsch with a totally different accent and the change is pretty much unnoticeable from our perspectives.

There is no one that will pass through any major Northern city and miss them
The point is na people born those almajiri they didnt drop from the sky and those parents are the bottom barrel in terms of poverty.
When you build something for people wey no want am, then you have achieved nothing
If the inhabitants are culturally opposed to it you will achieve nothing

The same way US spent trillions on Afghanistan to train their army, equip their army, opened schools for them, sent the girls to school to make them a better society according to western standard

Immediately the US left, less than 48hrs the trained army respectfully handed everything to the Taliban, the girls chased away from school back to the house and shard them to husbands

This is why some people were trying to latch onto the plane wheels during the evacuation. They knew what was up. And now we have the reality of Islamic education, not the sanitized story islamics was dropping. Add some videoed gang rape of stubborn women who don't know their place for authentic flavor

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/article/2024/jul/03/video-appears-to-shows-gang-rape-of-woman-in-a-taliban-jail

The Guardian has seen video evidence of a female Afghan human rights activist being gang-raped and tortured in a Taliban jail by armed men.

There have been mounting reports that sexual violence is being inflicted on women and girls being held in detention in Afghanistan, but this video is believed to be the first direct evidence of these crimes occurring.

According to the activist, the mobile phone footage was later sent to her as a threat that it would be shared more widely if she continued to speak out against the Taliban regime.

In the video recording viewed by the Guardian and Rukhshana Media, the young woman is filmed being told to take off her clothes and is then raped multiple times by two men.

The woman in the video – recorded on a phone by one of the armed men – tries to cover her face with her hands. One of the men pushes her hard when she hesitates as he gives her orders.

At one point she is told, “You’ve been bleeped by Americans all these years and now it’s our turn.”

The woman has said that she was arrested for taking part in a public protest against the Taliban and was raped while being held in detention in a Taliban prison. She has since fled Afghanistan. She said that after she spoke out against the Taliban in exile, she was sent the video and told that if she continued to criticise the regime the video would be sent to her family and released on social media.

“If you continue saying anything bad against the Islamic Emirate, we will publish your video,” she said she was told.

She believes that the attack was deliberately recorded to be used to silence and shame her. The person filming the assault captures her standing naked with her face visible and she is identifiable during the attacks.

what is the population of the north
how many of that population partake in western education

the fact that some muslim northerners go to school does not mean a significant percentage of northerners go to school
what you have is what i have described before
feudalism where 95% of the population is living as peasants, 4% are the bourgeois, and 1% are the dangotes

anecodatal stories of educated northerners are not going to change the actual statistics
and it is those numbers that have now come home to roost

This is not my point of quoting you. I only quoted and bolded the part my response was targeted to, which is you saying the well to do northerners goes for the alternative of western education.
P.S: You can do a random sampling among the well to do in the north and get response which should form the basis of your opinion.

One can develop an accent later in life if one works hard at it but yeah it is very difficult to NATURALLY develop one after 12-15 years of age.
Even for those that work at it and develop the new accent, they can always revert to their original childhood accent in the right settings.

I have over 5 secondary school mates in the US who now speak with American accents, including one Abiriba boy with strong Igbotic accent and one girl who with strong Ibadan accent.

Na serious work. I no get that kind energy.

also look at the disgraceful way you are trying to whitewash boko haram and that murderous cleric

they kidnapped people and forced them to convert at knifepoint

if you want us too we will dig it all up

spare us the bs about their issue being segregation of sexes

grin grin grin
Whitewash kuma? Just because I said a view of how I learnt the group came about?

Their origin and their operation/activities are two different things. I only gave a view of how I learnt they came about. On their operation/activities, everyone condemn their acts including the northern clerics, if not on tv, at least I can testify for local masjid. My issue with the north on the issue is that instead of continuing waiting for FG/SG to do something about it, why not tackle it yourself.

Please do dig up whatever you want to dig; no knowledge is wasted. I only shared a view. If you tell me, it is wrong, I will say okay cos no be debate I dey do.

Is NNPC not Nigeria thing?. All of a sudden NNPC said their strategic interest doesn't align with Dangote. They reduced their stake like you just agreed with Ib.ime. Is this Nigeria supporting it own?

Even a average northerners send their children to tertiary institutions. If he comes to the north, he will see them many in tertiary institutions studying good good courses.

Don't argue with him about north. He has formed his opinion about northerners already and nothing you say can change his views. I am just advising you.
