Madam doesn't know Gen Z kids don't care about etiquette when texting. Millennials do. At the same time, there are many millennials who completely shame their generation when typing. Na sandflies design her leg so?

The mother after seeing this will be like: Its not ‘mom’, its ’mum’.. Nigeria was colonized by the British so you ought to use the Kings English spelling. grin

Honestly, when someone that is close to me (for example, my siblings, children or spouse) writes without taking note of simple English syntaxes, I get annoyed and always correct them.

"Check up on" is indeed a phrasal verb, and using it in a sentence is grammatically sound. In this case, your grammarian mom is incorrect on that point. grin

To check on someone is to make sure there's nothing wrong with them.

To check up on someone is to make sure they're doing what they're suppose to do.

The mother is correct, only wrong to say that 'up and on don't go together.

To be honest, if this woman is one of my acquaintances, we'd get along like a house on fire.

I like it when people type correctly, both in grammar and punctuation. Even better when they speak correctly.

The woman had a fair share of good education. Not this generation of Nigerians that wrote WAEC with their smartphones. Nigeria used to be sweet when many people were sane.

That " I wanted to check up on you" caught my attention, and my mind just went straight to Whot Card, where you can check up on somebody... However the meaning of the above quoted statement is that young girl want to drop the last card upon her mom... This is an insult...

I "cumm" peacefully and not directly at you though. I just don't know why you put your mouth to taste my "Siemens".

Anyways, all "cumms" are distasteful. Don't put your mouth their again, especially when it's not for you.

"Aproko" is not good for you. Always taste what is meant for you, otherwise you will continue to get bitter taste.

Re: Woman Shares Chats With Her Mother Who Is A Grammarian(Pics) by Originalsly: 4:12am
I wouldn't say the mother is a grammarian. She is just trying to have her daughter write correctly as anyone with a secondary school level education should. knowing her mother will be correcting her writings it is reasonable to assume she will try her best to not make any mistakes. The basic mistakes she made in the chat show she is below par in English. I guess the mother wasted a lot on her English tutoring but is still trying with her.
Re: Woman Shares Chats With Her Mother Who Is A Grammarian(Pics) by Solidex(m): 4:39am
She should consider herself lucky to have a mother that is knowledgeable enough to see through her errors, and suggest a correction.
Some of us don't have that privilege. My parents are not lettered in English or other subjects.
When your chances of travelling out of Nigeria for a career progression, or any other programme hinges on passing English proficiency exams like, IELS,TOFL, you would understand the significance of having someone like her around you.

People are no longer conscious of their grammatical errors this days for a number of reasons , but I think as an individual we should do our best to speak and write well.
No one is perfect though.
